I can’t be the only one who actually LIKES the lanyard attachments. It’s different, functional and looks great! Either you love them (or you hate them). I for one LOVE them!
As a guy that rides a motorcycle all the time the lanyard is the easy way to get the knife out of my pocket and knowing that it isn't going to come out of my pocket at 100mph I think the lanyard looks great and will be very functional still waiting on mine the lanyard will also allow you to choke way down for a distance and chopping motion just like a cold steel for a defensive weapon
Ceramic composite bearings come in different grades. It could be an alloy composite or other blend. Silicone carbide is a very hard and dense material over lesser ceramic thus making it a naturally higher polished material. It’s not a coating. It would probably take a lifetime of opening and closing whether it would make a noticeable difference. SiC does not wear or show wear at all especially riding against any steel. So over time I would think Sic bearings could create smoother track surface around the pivot thus providing better opening and closing of blade.
LOL, somebody should make a piece that screws in where the 'lanyards' screw in but is maybe a quarter inch long and ends in an eyelet that you can can actually loop a lanyard through.
I was looking at getting this knife soon. I didn't even know about it until the last 2 weeks. I love microtech- and own a few Chinese knives too. I'm not in such a hurry anymore- and DLC is a NO on this one. Great review! Thanks!
The DLC finish reminds me of the slides on either a Shadow Systems MR920 or the ZevTech OZ9 pistols. Check them out… nearly identical coating. I think it’s intentional, and adds some character. That’s just me though.
If a custom Anax were still around a $1,000 it would be a really decent price that would actually tempt me unlike any of the other obscenely priced Marfione customs. Hopefully they bring them back. Thanks for your take.
I have the new SOCOM Bravo and TBH I like the Torx hardware as it's a user and doesn’t require remembering where I put the proprietary tools needed to adjust it months or years after the purchase...
I remember shelling out $1100 for a DLC Marfione custom Anax back in the day when it was one of the first integrals you could get from anyone in that price range.
I have the bead blasted version and the blade hits the locking bar preventing it from drop shutting sometimes and it leaves a mark on the side of the blade.
I have been eyeing these for a long time as well and have never pulled the trigger cause of price tag. But now im gonna get one while they are only $350..!!! I think that we are seeing the last few runs, doubt they will be made again. Least no time soon
@miketye2805 I think Microtech will bring back these and the bravos as U.S. made pieces at some point. The Socom Bravo Especially is a super nice piece and I can't imagine them killing it off completely. I had to get one of those in DLC as well and it's probably my favorite Microtech at this point.
Funny thought from this and the Bravo video. You always say look at the shoes you wear, or the phone you carry. I actually don't look at buying a non-USA-made knife as a blocker (prefer USA, but I am a realist), but my shoes are USA-made (New Balance and Allen Edmonds), and my phone is Korean (Samsung) lol. On the knife though, they look awesome but deployment looks to be questionable. I wish you had gone a little deeper into that.
In my opinion anymore, Chinese made knives are way better than American made knives. At least production knives that is. American knives like this would cost hundreds more to buy, the quality control is usually poor, and there almost always seems to be some kind of issue with the knife. They also just lack new great designs. I'm not saying all American knives are bad, I love my Spyderco pm2 and military that are made in the USA. My biggest problem as I said is the price. A titanium framelock with m390 steel in America is going to be like 500 plus dollars and like I said, there most likely will be something wrong with the knife. In China you can get a knife that's even better quality with the same materials for 250 to 300 bucks. It sucks bc I love USA made and want to buy USA made, but our USA production knife makers need to step up their game!!
The video hasn't even started yet but we were all in tears from laughter with your new intro. "A dk in your face!?" We're quite impress with this review. It will compliment the Matrix indeed (not the tanto thoguh). Cheers mate.
Just curious but, what is your tabletop material? It looks like rock or concrete. Surely you’re not handling beautiful knives and putting them down / picking them up on a hard “scratchy” surface… right? ;-}
@@madman94 Very much so. I only sold it to support at odd after his very ugly split with his brother in the business. If people saw Big Red, it was assumed that I supported Mark and how he treated Todd. So I made the decision to let it go along with all of my midtech Begg Knives. But one day it will be replaced with a custom Bodega from Todd.
Fair play to these companies for sending out review samples. Keeps you guys in knives and if you sell them extra cash and we get knife porn in return for free \m/ But seeing the same knife pop-up on 4 channels at the same time....Some acting like they purchased them, is kinda shady! (Not you)
Actually, I got both from a fellow collector. Microtech doesn’t really do the review game actually, their products are too expensive to give away to a bunch of folks, I think. Sometimes the timing just hits for us all at the same time on a new item.
The dlcs just got restocked across the board last week. I'm sure a ton of people snatched one up. I had multiple marketing emails last week notifying me.
Bottom line came down to it just didn't do it for me the way the Bravo did as far as looks. Also, as you said, price. Hell, who doesn't love a free butt plug? However, I don't need something stabbing my side, either. Sounds like you might need a safe word for the knife. Also, it'd be interesting to see if they re-release the D.O.C. with this collaboration run. Thank you for the videos and blades, Jim. Been watching since your days with Darrel Ralph. How time flies.
I buy Chinese knives that are priced accordingly and that I really want.. You know what they pay to get these knives made overseas and it’s shocking to most people what the difference is. Most people buy Chinese made knives and don’t care much about that but the problem is what they’re charging for this 😬🤦♂️
550.00 for a Chinese made knife is over priced. Your relative comparison to a custom version is a false comparison. I avoid Chinese products whenever I can. Doesn’t have to be American made just not made by an enemy of our country.
Not a false comparison. There is no production Microtech Anax except this one. There are two Anax models, custom, or production which comes from Rike. Thats it.
I’d say it’s over priced for The DLC (vs the non DLC version) but the reality is that most of the people who complain could not or would not buy an american made version due to it being 3-X the price. I got the SOCM bravo for $325 and my goodness it’s an amazing knife for the money (i would not have gotten a 600-700 dollar US version so i appreciate it) (also have a UTX-85, Stitch, Glykon, all US made)
I love Jim’s Microtech knife reviews, talks…
I’m a MT fan and collector, and I always enjoy Jim’s take on anything they do
Thank you 👍
I can’t be the only one who actually LIKES the lanyard attachments. It’s different, functional and looks great! Either you love them (or you hate them). I for one LOVE them!
I love them, just not very practical in the pocket.
I love it and I use it it’s bad ass. I can even use the pointy one to break tape in boxes.

I love both of them but I do want a custom so bad just hard to drop that kind of cash on a single knife great video man
First time viewer here. Was not expecting the audio for the intro 😂
Great video by the way!

I'd been eyeing these since release. With the discontinuation, i had to go ahead and pick one up. Got the dlc s/e for nearly $200 off retail.

The Microtech DLC looks better than the other "midnight" black dlc knife IMO. It looks more expensive and not like cheap black paint.
I think OVERALL the Bravo may be a tad better I wish they'd have used hex hardware with the Anax like they did the bravo

seriously USA makers need to get more creative people but arent tacky in design. ha
💯 sad to say. American makers think they can just charge 500 plus for shit. I've got allot of 500 plus turds. But China killing it
Luckily, spyderco knives aren't overpriced. It's probably the best American made knives to get.

When is not a good idea to simulate dragonfly ass right??
Dragonfly ass is a scientific term used by entomologists.
Personally I love Rike.
