I picked this one up awhile ago, then the Tanto in the same finish today. You’re right about what a difference the finish makes. In trying to grab every MT in this finish, I love it so much. Missing the CT Interceptor and the Hera II, so almost there.
I received mine and love it!!! As an added bonus, I found out from Microtech that the natural clear are Type III hardcoat anodized which is much tougher than 99.99% of other OTF’s that are only Type II anodized (type 3 is what you get on firearms like AR lowers and pistols with aluminum frames )! By way of example the Kershaw Livewire in grey is type II - I was curious so I asked both companies 😊
The natural "clear" type 3 anodized finish is what Surefire used to do on their flashlights. It was kind of a greenish/ gray in color. Kinda cool looking imho.
The Glykon I'm waiting for is a single edge. If they aren't going to upgrade their lower OTFs or go more in the direction of the Hera 2 prototype, then the Glykon needs to expand. I also saw Kershaw just came out with a Livewire Tanto in Magnacut that might have to come home.
Interesting bit of info if you look up the two patents on the box, they are both for the Glykon, one for the tri-switch and the other is the movable pocket clip! So I am wondering if they will start to incorporate that into other knives down the road.
6 months in from this and we have the Gen III models like the Combat Troodon, the Hera II and the Cypher in this clear natural - I have all of them and just love this finish! Glykon is next!
@@edged_mindsetjust looked up the Hera 2. I think you’re right. I love the Glykon style clip on that one. Dang it, these knife companies don’t want me to have ANY money! 😂🤣
hello sir! so that finish is natural hard anodize un dyed. it it hardcoat anodized but not dyed black so it has one of the best and most durable finishes you can have.
I would like to see replacement scales, or perhaps even other replacement exterior items that are colored different so the knife can be presented and many different formats. I believe that was the original plan but microtech probably seen way to make more money so they are doing it this way. I like the Mr. potato head idea lol.
@@edged_mindset thanks for the heads up, bro! I definitely love that apocalyptic, the full apocalyptic. It’s pretty sweet. The only thing that held me back from picking one up is I didn’t like the two tone handle on the regular ones.
What's the point of the nickel-boron internals? Is that only an OTF thing? I've been carrying Microtech OTFs for years (although I'm currently carrying a EMP EDC Pulse OTF and *really* like it). Despite the cool factor, I have not been super impressed with Microtech's reliability OR their customer service. On my Ultratechs I have had two spring failures and I had the glassbreaker threads strip out rendering the pocket clip useless. Getting the springs replaced wasn't too difficult although it took a long time. But I had to REALLY fight with them to get them to replace the one with the stripped glassbreaker threads. A lot of folks don't use their Microtechs...they just put them in a box for collectible value. I don't do that...I actually use them every single day.
Carter, one thing that helps the side buttons is a bit of lube. As the tri-button is all one piece, when you push on the sides you are pushing the main button up against the other side and vice versa. So that grinding of metal vs metal with the etching of the AP finish makes it very hard to move.
I just want you to know that my wife absolutely hates you, and wants to ban your channel! 🤷♂ But I love your channel! 💯 I just received mine today, and love it! You are a bad influence! 😈 Keep up the good work!

Good to know!
Wow very nice, I got the Glykon with OD green and Titanium and LOVE it!
I thank God for knifes I don't know what I'll do without them. Beautiful otf
Thank you!

Totally agree

My Hera 2 prototype had this pocket clip as well, although I hear the production versions will have the classic Hera clip
Got this same one coming today! Can’t wait
Nice!

Might be selling mine 👀
2 issues i have with mine are the firing switch rattle when closed and the plain body which sucks if your palms are sweaty.
Definitely plan to get one. I have the regular and Shadow versions. The Glykon might be my favorite OTF.
Took me a minute to fully warm up to it but I agree. BUT! I think the Hera II is going to cause major waves

❤❤❤ love the glycon
Awesome. I’m waiting for mine
👊👊👊
Great video! I just ordered this one. I was going to get a Gen III Combat Troodon but switched at the last second
Good choice!
I have it with green same knife with green scales double serrated blade
Mega Cool Double Action Otf Knife Awesome
😅
Absolutely sick !🤘🏻🇺🇸
I assume the color is simply an anodized color on the aluminum. I got the same finish as well today, on the Stitch in APNC as well! 🤠👍
Upposidly no anodization. According to them this is raw and how it looks after rough shaping, then clearcoated.

I agree, that is what they announced but I have yet to see anything
Hey man do you recommend this knife?
Absolutely!
@@edged_mindset thanks 🙏🏻 ok, I’m in!!!

I have a Hinderer xm-18 3.5 spearpoint I might trade for the plain edged one...😊
Nah. Not a Hinderer fan
Hey Carter great video! Question, how’s the clip retention on the Glykon? I wear a lot of athletic shorts and I hate clips that aren’t secure. Thanks!
It's good! Sculpted Ti so strong retention. The apocalyptic finish is also gripy so that helps a ton

@@edged_mindset oh, and subscribed, by the way!
🙌
A beauty
Thanks!
Yes, very nice:)
Do you like this knife better than a combat troodon?
Yes, I think it's better all around
Does that button have a little wiggle??
The slightest

Mostly for corosion protection for the internals, it also creates a slicker surface for components that interact with eachother
This or the troodon?
This
Thank u
Did I hear you maybe gettin rid of er? Let me know buddy, beautiful knife, need it haha

Yo... if that Makora aint falling right thru that entire strip of tape without resistance, its time for a sharpening.
