    And all this time I thought the two pronunciations were dictated by consonant and vowel sounds- If "a" is followed by a word beginning with a consonant sound then its pronunciation is the schwa sound.

    Thank you for your interesting video!:-) Lately, I more and more hear that (American) UA-camrs pronounce the plural word women like the singular word woman. I learned in school to pronounce the plural like "weeman". Is this a new trend or is this just an accent from a certain area of the U.S.? :-)Thank you so much for your information!

    • @gabby6384
      @gabby6384 3 роки тому +1

      I’m a native speaker. It’s probably just a dialect. the people may also not be focused on pronouncing the word clearly. The plural for woman is pronounced “wi-men” so you’re on the right track.

    There is one thing that really bothers me and I can't find anyone talking about it... I wish you would talk about it. It is when a person uses him or her as the subject of a sentence. Here is an example:. "Her and her friend went to the store."

    • @moii8457
      @moii8457 3 роки тому +1

      it should be SHE AND HER friend went to the store

  • @sam10818
    @sam10818 2 роки тому

    That's not a speaker's problem. It is the problem of the language itself. No rules in the language.
    If it has the word "defenestration" in the dictionary and not a word for "day after tomorrow", then the language is a absurd.
    Unfortunately I'm writing in English.
