The answer is "it depends." It depends on the circumstances. Many NGOs work to help these groups to navigate the application/ immigration system, and other NGOs help them to relocate once they're in the U.S. There will be instances in which the federal government will step in. In this particular case, the Haitian community has a strong presence in South Florida. Many people with TPS have relatives in South Florida and have managed to move to other states.

The “just immigrate legally” response to complaints about deportation oversimplifies a very complex issue. While it may seem like straightforward advice, it ignores the nuanced realities of immigration systems and policies. Here are some important points to consider: 1. Limited Legal Pathways • For many people, there is no clear or accessible way to immigrate “legally.” Immigration systems in many countries, including the United States, have strict quotas, long waiting periods, and requirements that many potential immigrants cannot meet. • For example, family-sponsored immigration may take decades for certain categories (e.g., siblings of U.S. citizens from certain countries). Employment-based visas often require advanced skills or sponsorship from an employer, which is inaccessible for many. • Refugees and asylum seekers often flee dangerous situations and don’t have the ability to “wait in line” or obtain the necessary documents. 2. “Legal Immigration” Often Involves Decades of Waiting • For people from countries with high immigration rates, such as Mexico, India, or the Philippines, the wait time for a family-based green card can be 10-20 years or longer. • This makes “just immigrate legally” an unrealistic option for people in urgent situations or those seeking better opportunities in a reasonable timeframe. 3. Economic and Humanitarian Realities • Many undocumented immigrants are driven by dire economic or political circumstances. Telling someone facing starvation, gang violence, or persecution to “immigrate legally” is not a practical solution. • Legal immigration pathways rarely account for the full range of humanitarian crises. People fleeing war or natural disasters may not qualify for refugee or asylum protections due to restrictive legal definitions. 4. Complex and Costly Process • Legal immigration often involves high costs, extensive paperwork, and legal representation. For those in poverty, these barriers can make legal immigration unattainable. • Employers or family members may need to sponsor immigrants, which can impose significant burdens on both the immigrant and their sponsors. 5. Deportation Doesn’t Always Target Unauthorized Immigrants • Many people deported each year have valid immigration claims but are caught in procedural or bureaucratic limbo. For instance, asylum seekers can be deported while waiting for their cases to be processed. • Immigrants with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) may face deportation due to changes in policies, even if they initially entered or stayed in compliance with legal pathways. 6. Immigration Law is Inconsistent and Politically Driven • Immigration systems are highly politicized, and laws are subject to frequent change. People who initially entered legally may find their status jeopardized if policies change. • Systems may lack consistency or fairness. Two people with similar cases might face drastically different outcomes depending on the adjudicator, legal representation, or jurisdiction. 7. Global Inequality and Historical Context • The “just immigrate legally” response often ignores the historical and structural forces that create migration flows. Economic exploitation, climate change, and political instability (sometimes exacerbated by foreign policy decisions of wealthier countries) contribute to migration. To say “just immigrate legally” disregards the role of global inequality in forcing people to migrate under difficult circumstances. In Summary: While “just immigrate legally” might sound logical in theory, it reflects a lack of understanding of the immigration system’s complexity and the realities facing migrants. Immigration law is inaccessible to many, and the reasons people migrate often go beyond what legal systems can accommodate. This response oversimplifies a deeply rooted, systemic issue and can come across as dismissive of the challenges and injustices that immigrants face.
Yeah they did. Where do you people get these ideas? Ukraine is at war, so legally eligible for asylum…unlike all these other people! The Irish? What Irish? My ancestors from the 1500s? Get over it. Elon Musk? He’s been a citizen for quite some time. Why waste your time on this type comment?
The Haitian restaurant lady should have applied for permanent residence, then applied for green card and citizenship. It's her fault that she's now facing deportation. All of those things were available to her...procrastination is what got her where she is now, afraid of deportation.
I saw a documentary about an immigration specialist who said most of the Haitians came here from Chile, where they were living well. They just made the move here for opportunity. Not an asylum case.
To be fair they're from a country where anarchy is perpetual and people are in fear for their lives by these roaming gangs that now virtually control the country. Yeah, I'd run away for my safety's sake and the safety of my family too. That's a legitimate reason to leave Haiti. When a people group are in danger they have to leave for their safety and migrate to the nearest available safe country to them and adapt to the current environment over there including integrating and assimilating with the native people group and their culture. That's not cowardice, that's survivalism. Haitians don't have pew pews over there because of their pew pew laws and to assume that civilians can resist these gangs without any pew pews, arms, or skills is naive. CIVILIANS are CIVILIANS; NOT SOLDIERS.

Everyone in the world won’t be able to pile into a few countries, even if they are legitimately fleeing awful conditions. • Systems may lack consistency or fairness. Two people with similar cases might face drastically different outcomes depending on the adjudicator, legal representation, or jurisdiction.
7. Global Inequality and Historical Context
• The “just immigrate legally” response often ignores the historical and structural forces that create migration flows. Economic exploitation, climate change, and political instability (sometimes exacerbated by foreign policy decisions of wealthier countries) contribute to migration. To say “just immigrate legally” disregards the role of global inequality in forcing people to migrate under difficult circumstances.
In Summary:
While “just immigrate legally” might sound logical in theory, it reflects a lack of understanding of the immigration system’s complexity and the realities facing migrants.

Its crazy they can keep just pick up and move to another city just like that
It's even crazier how the USA can get away with constantly stealing from & meddling in their homeland "just like that" 😒🤦🏾♂️
Courtesy of the US government.
Black people are very resilient and you should read about the Great Migration. You’d learn a lot and not be surprised by this.
South Florida went through the same thing 30+ years ago with the Haitians.
Meanwhile Cubans were doing the same thing in South Florida but y'all were VERY quiet about that 🙄🤦🏾♂️ stop the selective outrage...

Propaganda video! We need to push for legal citizenship
So just run from your problems, Forever?
There are 11.5 million ppl still in that country. The majority ain't running 🤦🏾♂️
put yourself in their shoes

We don’t need to. Why should we? We’ve worked for centuries to build this country. They’ve had the same number of centuries and resources we’ve had to build their countries. Right?
@@honeywest990405No. No!!!
Haitians were enslaved until 1804.
And occupied by the West from 1930-1940.
Haiti has not had the same amount of Centuries and resources that White Western nations have had.

If you're here legally, what's the problem?

They not involved in gang activities ,they don’t use drugs, they go to church every Sunday, they go to work everyday faithfully how dare the American people talk abt the Haitian like that they great people…
And they get free food and housing. A lot of Americans are nice people who fought for their country. Don’t get free room and food!!
Ok so she is here illegally? And yet has a business? how in the heck is that? Understand their reasonings for coming here, and that they are working and blah, blah, blah, however your still here illegally, and broke our laws.
Yes. Business ownership requires paperwork. And down payments and taxes and purchase of supplies. How do you think she saved money to have her own business?
She'll be fine
She's not here illegally.
The Democrat party should hire people to read the comment section of these main stream media videos about illegal immigration and deportation. They seem to care less about what the majority of voters support. The more they resist, the harder it will be to win the presidency in 2028. SMH. No lessons learned from being defeated in November.
God help them.
No God help us.we losing this country
HE did by giving them a homeland and what have they done with it?
So the ones with work permits/green cards shouldn’t be deported. It’s the ones who recently came.
Some were flown in illegally by JB and provided documents to allow them to vote. They have TPS, but it’s not legal. JB cannot bring in illegals and give them documentation. It’ll be invalid and they will be deported.
I dont feel bad what so ever! Had time to make a business but no time to file immigration papers, geeessshhhhh
God bless her. Im gonna keep her in prayer. God please bless them cover them with love. In jesus name amen❤😊.
don't be scared, believe in God, only God have a power over all of us.
lol, laws are laws time to respect them.
They are not scared! Trust me 😂. Trump better leave them people alone!
Many of these people have support within the community, they support each other,,, as do the Latinos and Asian community.
If you don't want to get deported then get legal.

I don’t think Homan is trying to target this restaurant owner, he needs to prioritize the Venezuelans. The DMV probably needs to mandate drivers ed though for those Haitians.
I saw an non citizen get pulled over for an infraction. He told the officer he didn't need a licesens. Just because you mandate that does not mean they will abide by the law. They think they are above the American legal citizen and we owe them.
Every dish may be the taste of Home...but your in mine illegally 😂
Do they think Tom Homan isn't going to know they are leaving going to other states.Mr. Homan is not stupid.THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE COME HERE ILLEGALLY. THERE IS A PORT OF ENTRY.And wanting to make money to send back home is not a reason to claim asylum.
exaclty majority of them are economic migrants or criminals fleeing their home countries to avoid prosecution, they came illegally , we're either a nation of laws or not.

What in the world are you trying to say? I swear I have no ask that several times a day on YT! Haitian people did play a role in our Revolutionary War, but it didn’t come with rights to our country. We have done plenty for Haiti since the Revolutionary War. We built what infrastructure they have and have sent billions to them over the years. What they may have contributed to any war wasn’t worth billions, so again, we owe them nothing.
Oh my God 🙏🏽
If they are here LEGALLY AND HAVE NOT COMMITTED ANY CRIMES, either in Hati or the US, they have no reason to worry. PERIOD.
BINGO!!!!!

You should have come in legally. What is what my husband did he got no money from the government he paid thousands of dollars to be here and you walk over the border and get better treatment then the American people !!!!!! We have so much homeless veterans and American that fall on hard times. Put it does not make the news. Put you are talking about people that are with out paper.law is law.
Apply to stay legally.

But that's happening in every state and city. But we are us citizens. We have to pay our taxes, and you all come over here and get free foodstamps and medical cards and free housing... that's not fair
You’re right at some points! But how many immigrants are working hard paying taxes like you and help this county’s economy! How many American citizens will never pick some kind of works to do while bunch of immigrants are working breathlessly in wharehouses days in nights paying a great part of what they earn for taxes! No countries in the World give privileges to foreigners just for nothing but always know what they will get back!
sorry! Drama is over! If you feel life is not going good the way you want it in your country. It's the same way with us Americans. We struggle more when you came.
lol.
Well they could’ve applied for citizenship.
They are here legally. Clearly, you know nothing about becoming a citizen. Elon Musk came here on a student visa but never went to school. His money bought his citizenship. He should have it revoked and be deported.
If your paperwork's lacking, you better start packing 👍

They need to leave. Haiti is a whole country. It's not just Port Au Prince. They can go to other cities in Haiti. CBS stop your pandering to WRONG.
They still need money & resources(both of which the USA stole from them) as well as work....and those are very hard get in that country compared to the USA. It's not solely about the crime and there are over 11 million people still living there. Don't speak on shyt you don't know 🤡🤡
How do you define legally? Came here legally, applied legally, paid legally? Should be fine.

It's simple it's not complicated you either follow the laws or you don't if you don't enforce the laws then nobody should follow the laws. You can't have it both ways.

CBS what about all the dangerous immigrants?
If she has been here years, why isn't she legal?
Even the Dominican right next to Haiti won’t take them . What does that tell you .
These people work very hard!
Leave them alone!
We can’t take everyone in just because they have problems in they homeland. It’s not our job just because you are working and do t get in trouble that doesn’t give you the right to stay
The Haitian community of Springfield are good hard working people.
What country is next to Haiti? Go there.
Here ILLEGALLY.
Then sponsor a family

I don't think he will deport them. He had said; those here Illegally
This is unfair to all the legal immigrants that did it the right way.
Just keep praying nothing is impossible with God. Just keep living a quality life and stay away from anyone or anything illegal. Stay put trust in God and do good.
She is not going anywhere, and the Trump administration is not deporting a hard-working woman like this. This is an established immigrant who is contributing to the community.

When are you leaving?
When are you leaving?
Everyone in the world won’t be able to pile into a few countries, even if they are legitimately fleeing awful conditions. There just isn't enough room in any of the countries where people are fleeing, to absorb everyone who wants to be there. It is just simple math. Just because some countries have accepted lots of immigrants in the past, times have changed, and going forward this is not sustainable.
At some point people will have to sacrifice and fight to improve the corruption and other horrible conditions of their own countries.
Temporary Protected Status means your deportation has been delayed. All under TPS are deportable with no immigration status. They can be deported at any time. If those with TPS want to stay they need to obtain actual immigration status.
