School funds are determined by property taxes in the US, you know this. Richer parents taking their kids to private school and charter schools taking in certain people only makes it so that these public schools never improve. Poor kids generally, but especially black kids, are put in these places that are destined to have low passing rates and produce kids who can't read or do math due to "no child left behind". In theory what you're saying is good but who actually campaigns on this and tries to make things equal from the beginning. Then you have legacy and nobody cares about them and how much space they're taking up. The more you realize that certain racial groups were forced into the poor side of an income distribution system, the more you'll see that affirmative action was needed to help things be better.
They try but the culture these communities practice along with toxicity within them, change is hard to initiate. Lots of folks within these communities have kids illegitimately just to game the welfare system without providing any parental guidance towards raising their children who end up becoming criminals and violent homeless people wandering the society.
I think as black people we need to attend HBCUs, create our own industries and Businesses and grow and maintain our communities . At this point it’s obvious that the majority in this country do not want us in their spaces .. which is fine . However, if we build our communities back up a SECOND time white people should not go out of their way to tear us down in fear of black people surpassing them . Let us keep our thriving communities & successes and compete on the same playing field and you won’t have to worry about us trying to attend your schools .
This whole segment is missing the point that college is a really oversold idea. Plumbers are making 80k per year snd college graduates are making 34k per year.
The trades are great if you can get into a union. Saying so and so trade is making x amount of dollars a year is overlooking a lot. Many of the jobs that have those high salaries are unionized and tend to be from specific trades. Not knocking on the trades but just like college graduates are now realizing some degrees don't pay as much as others, not all trades pay the same.
while the trades do make more and we need them, we also shouldn't just now wholesale support everyone to go into trades because the tools that the trades use are from industry researchers with university degrees (ie math, science and engineering)
I think this is probably one of the best things to happen to African Americans. So many black kids are intelligent and strong. A new system is emerging. They can now thrive in these HBCUs. It's a new day.
You are clueless. Blks were being admitted and not qualified. They failed and owed 1000's in school loans. Wyts and Asians had to score 2 to 300 points higher on SATS for admittance. NOW Qualified blks will be admitted.
You know, if ANYONE really and truly WANTS a college education, they will do what it takes, even if that means a local state or even community college. And besides, most people in college have no business being in college in the first place. Germany does it right: they have different paths after high school, where people can seriously consider trade school. And so on.

What is going to be fun is when they find out does not impact minority enrollment. How about the drop in male enrollment? That is actually a thing.
What is going to be fun is you finding out that Asian, Indian, and Male enrollment at MIT in the Freshmen Class skyrocketed after Affirmative Action was banned.
So, these students believe that if they are not given preferential treatment (which is very different from equal treatment guaranteed by federal law), they are not wanted by the university? The only way for the university to make them feel good is to be admitted under affirmative action, which is to be given preferential treatment? Am I missing something here?
To me, this ruling tells me that people don’t care to learn the struggle it takes for black students to earn an education. Black students are looking for an institution that’s actually going to invest in them and their education. Who actually care about their wellbeing and how they navigate their institution. PWI’s don’t invest in black students the same way a HBCU would, so the black students are going where they’re wanted and people can’t question their education attainment or if they actually belong there…
Yes you are missing a lot, you are not given anything under affirmative action or DEI. Each candidate is rated based on certain factors with race being one of them. So you still have to have the GPA, extracurricular activities, and good tests scores. They are all equally qualified you just have to consider, not choose, but consider a minority. I’m confused why that is a problem.
@@jeffreyprayer4052 A Supreme Court affirmative action case showed that an Asian candidate in the eighth highest academic decile had a 5.1% chance of admittance, compared to 7.5% for white, 22.9% for Hispanic, and 44.5% for black applicants. So, given the same GPA and extracurricular activities Malia Obama will have advantage over the white boy from an impoverished mining town in West Virginia. Note that a minority Asian candidate had 1/8th of a chance than a minority Black candidate, a minority Hispanic candidate had 50% chance of a minority Black candidate. That's justice?
This report is a mixed bag for several reasons. First, there is no mention of the fact that one of the major reasons for the litigation against Harvard was the use of race to limit the admission of Asian students as a means of increasing the enrolment of black students. How does discriminating against one minority group in favour of another minority group promote equality and eliminate racism? As the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court said, "The best way to end discrimination is stop discriminating." The importance of race as a determinant of success in a post-Jim Crow US continues to decrease, as evidence by Asian and Indian Americans having the highest per capita incomes of any racial groups. It is important to remember that Asians and Indians only began to immigrate to the US in large numbers after the end of WW II. For many decades, Asians and Indians, like blacks, were discriminated against, as evidenced by immigration quotas, head taxes, and the internment of Japanese Americans during WW II. What Asians and Indians have achieved in only two generations is truly remarkable. Second, many of the students indicated that they want systemic factors associated with historic discrimination to be taken into account during the university admissions process, while wanting students to be admitted on the basis of merit and qualification. Often the only way to overcome these so-called systemic factors is by emphasizing race in place of merit. It would be nice of these black students would embrace the fact that as black people they possess merit and that they can succeed and often do better than white people because of their abilities. Reference to race is unnecessary. Constantly referring to race potentially undermines or limits the confidence of black students and retards the development of a color blind society. Third, there are going to be prestigious and non-prestigious HBCUs, just as there are going to be prestigious and non-prestigious PWUs. However, it is wrong to suggest that a HBCU is prestigious simply because it is old or is classified as a HBCU. The officials from Hampton University are working too hard to establish that their institution is prestigious, especially when it is a prestigious institution. Hampton has an acceptance rate of 74% and a graduation rate of only 56%, This means that the overwhelming majority of applicants are accepted, but more than four in ten students do not graduate. Thus, if Hampton wants to become more prestigious, it needs to dramatically raise its admission standards and work at reducing the dropout rate. However, becoming more prestigious cold both reduce the number of post-secondary spaces available to black students and ignore the fact that non-prestigious institutions like Hampton play a vital role in the college ecosystem by providing average students a place to earn a degree.
Affirmative action did not discriminate against Asians. Two judges found there were no discriminatory practices against Asians at Harvard. Black people have a long history in this country. On a daily basis, we don’t encounter or even think about Asians. We go about our business, doing what we do in our communities. Why come to america picking a fight with us over lies. You are smart right? Probably think you’re smarter than black people, but you can’t see that the policy wasn’t discriminatory against Asians? We only want what we have worked for. Same as Asians. Nothing has ever been given to us here and we understand that. Leave us out of it and stop comparing us. We don’t compare.
You DO know that Asuan students were being rejected for WHITE students and that Black students were used as a scapegoat⁉️⁉️⁉️ Black student enrollment at Harvard has not surpassed 15%, and maybe less than 4% are Black American, the actual ethnic population that AA was passed for.
Let’s be honest, at the end of the day, college is for that diploma. A degree from Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, aka PWI’s are gold. We need more black alumni from these institutions. Can you imagine living in a country where people could accurately assume every black person went to an HBCU? I think blacks should focus more on why so few of them even get to college. Black people are the minority in the country so it’s a given you will be a minority is almost every institution. That’s ok. Our ancestors didn’t fight for integration, for future generations to just seclude themselves from society.
The value of any college degree varies inversely with the number of degree holders. Right now too many people have degrees making them expensive HS diplomas and this includes Harvard and Yale.
Certain people have this weird belief that someone who got 93 points in one test is more worthy of being admitted than someone who got 92. Therefore if I admit a black student with a 92 score over a white student with a 93 score then Im stealing something from the white student. As if a 1+ point difference means a person is overall superior than everyone else who got a lower score. Being good at taking standardized tests does not make you a better candidate. Everyone over a certain threshold of GPA or test scores already has merit. People who were able to overcome socio economic hardships and get there are more deserving to be admitted than someone who had it easier from the beginning, that is real merit.
Latino is not a race. There are plenty of Latinos who are White, and others who are Black, and many who are mixed race or Asian. It's akin to pretending that North Americans of different races and backgrounds are one ethnic/racial group, simply because they are from the same continent and speak English.
No the person who worked and studied the hardest deserves to get in. Your background does not matter. It's not weird to give the hardest worker the reward. That's how it works in the real world.
Blks were being admitted and not qualified. They failed and owed 1000's in school loans. Wyts and Asians had to score 2 to 300 points higher on SATS for admittance. NOW Qualified blks will be admitted.
But it isn’t equal. College admissions is skewed to benefit students who are well connected or are from wealthy/high income families. As long as this is true, I see no issue with race being factored in admissions.
@@x-men69-96despite their wealth and celebrity, I bet you a million dollars they’d faced some form of discrimination, bias, or racism. Black people with money are still Black and still treated as such. Money is not always visible or immutable, skin color is unfortunately.
I’m so tired of people looking for racism in everything. you shouldn’t get in because of your skin color. I do understand that some people may not be getting the same resources..a LOT of people arnt getting a proper education from the public schools. we need to make the elementary, middle and high schools better. it needs a lot of work.
They weren't choosing unqualified students... But bitter people want to blame everyone but themselves. It's not looking for racism in everything. It's more that your skin can hinder you even when you qualify and over achieve. Even when black people offer more money, our bids on houses can be denied as soon as someone realizes we are black. It’s already proven that people with obvious ethnic names have a reduced chance of call back even with identical resumes. Yes, make school better, but the only way to combat unconscious bias and intentional racism is policy. No one was suffering from affirmative action. And it’s everywhere. It's the reason the move away from dei is concerning. I worked with a nonprofit that didn't understand why there were no black attendees. It turned out that they didn't market their event in digital and physical spaces that black people frequent. It never occurred to them to post in spaces according to race. To people against DEI and affirmative action, thinking about that at all is wrong. But not thinking about it meant that only white people knew about these helpful programs for everyone. Most people don't think about that until i tell them. But these politicians know. They just have two agendas. Some use it to gain support and power. Others use it because they really are racist. Sometimes both. But it sounds so reasonable to say it should only be based on merit when it's not. There are lots of smart and talented people. If you have 100 people who had a 4.0 and high SAT scores, it makes sense to choose from different communities so that every community benefits. If the black enrollment reduces to a trickle, it won't be because we aren't smart or qualified, but people will assume that's why even without seeing the grades and applications. Especially when you look at how many of us are even at these schools to begin with. Only like 7-10%. It's not like we were taking over. All of this was over 7-10% of the seats that made such a difference for us but was still a fraction of the overall enrollment. We're 13.6% of the overall US population. But people really think we're so dumb that we don't qualify for 7-10%...
Athletic scholarships won't be affected. They bring too much money into the colleges. Unless we're talking Notre Dame,Duke,Stanford etc these schools don't care about grades when it comes to their student athletes. Sad,but true.

One of the missions of HBCUs is to take a marginal student and turn them into a scholar though extensive mentorship, focused academic studies, and the sense of belonging to a community. Something most PWI's (predominantly white institutions) aren't interested in doing.
After affirmative action was struck down by the US supreme Court, I have seen a rise in Asian students and a decline of nearly every nationality at my university. Blacks and Hispanics were hit the hardest at my university. We need to bring back affirmative action so universities Will be more diverse.
Elite public universities are cheaper than HBCU's and typically have much better graduation rates for Black Students. I turned down Howard University to attend the University of Virginia because it was much cheaper, and my family could not afford to provide me financial assistance in college. It's best to have options. Black students are disproportionately burdened by student loan debt and decreased enrollment at public [cheaper] universities will worsen this disparity.
@yepyep6916 The ratio of public to private HBCU is more like 50/50. Furthermore, the overwhelming majority of HBCU's are in the South. Black students from the North, Midwest and West Coast have no public, in state tuition, HBCU option. Every state has a public flagship university, which economically is the best option, particularly for poor students. The Black community is more burdened by student loan debt compared to other groups. Elite public universities also have much better 5 year graduation rates than HBCU's. HBCU''s are a great option for some students, however, other Black students fare better at public universities for the aforementioned reasons. Options are best. Not being relegated to HBCU's.
@@NycGuy7 …Agreed, I hold degrees from both types of institutions and can see the pros and cons of both. Didn’t know the ratio was 50-50 HBCU private/public ratio. However, enrollment rates are significantly higher at public HBCUs, 77%vs 23%. There is no one size fits all solution. It’s tough to reduce costs because most are economically funneled to the school systems where they reside. Southerners that attend public in-state HBCUs tend to pay less overall than their northern counterparts since the overall cost of living is less. With respect to African American student loan debt, I would recommend other career options such a as trade schools and starting at community college. if you are not STEM, medical, or seeking a degree in a low-paying/low-demand career field I would question the value of attending a 4-year university. Things are a lot different since I graduated.
They definitely are. I get why poor whites(include middle class in this) i can see how it seems unfair. Apparently we've always had this dynamic amongst us. To me it's a class thing. Poor whites and blacks once had a different time relationship until elites pit us against each other.
No worries. Very soon, many black athletes won't be in PWIs. The white folks can have it all. The world is open now. Many black kids are in China now. In some places, China is enrolling black kids and training them from a young age. Very soon, the wins black folks gave the United States will belong to China.
No one thinks that education is out of reach for every young person? I’m black and feel like using the affirmative action excuse for college drop off is insane when there’s no money for school and the govt lets schools charge their own prices
Just Googled HBCU Hampton...their overall graduation rate is about 57% with their 6 year graduation rate is at 60% while their 4 year graduation rate is at 41%. Fun fact the following HBCU has a graduation rate of 35% or below!! Xavier University of Louisiana, Delaware State University, Dillard University, Lincoln University and the worst performing one at 28% is Clark Atlanta University. Its ironic enough that these students complains about PWI students as if they are the problem. Why didn't their parents take the efforts to ensure their children attended black only public school when they were young. I certain they would be able to experience more of the "blackness" that many seem to be complain about that is missing at the college level. Plenty of inner city that are black focus and I assume they are thriving because the community, the family is all about black excellences. Forget about the graduation rate...those are probably "racist" statistic skewed to project hate....lol. Now now, I am other non-POC do just as bad but that isn't the focus here. The focus here is that overall, POC are complaining about not being entitled to attend a university at which their ability to perform just do not match! That's not to say a person will not do well if they attended their third or fourth option. In the end, an individuals determination to do well in life will do well in life. Its unfortunate that with affirmative action taken out, now DEI is being is being implemented in its place. Its like, not qualifying for the school of your choice doesn't mean you won't get the job of your choice...lol.
Funny how you left out Howard, Spellman, and Morehouse. Some of the TOP HBCU’s but focused on the lesser known and renowned ones to prove a point whilst claim the docu was “bias.” Let me add some context for you. Black men have the lowest six year retention at 44% while Black women are at 61%. That means if a school enrolls mostly persons from these groups they’d have a graduation rate that skews lower in comparison to PWIs that hardly enroll Black students. And to combat your logic, White men have an average of a 64% six year graduation rate, while White women have a 67%. Are you saying White men in comparison to White women don’t deserve to be admitted b/c of their inability to meet academic rigor? Someone’s ability to graduate on time or at all can stem from many different things, like life events that call for students to withdraw. It’s not always or mostly academic related.
@@malachibridges5 The reason HBCU's have a lower graduation rate is because one of the missions of an HBCU is to take a marginal student and turn them into a scholar. (Something few PWIs will do) That involves admitting virtually everyone regardless of past academic record. As a result the graduation rate will be lower. Many Black people don't have educated parents to mentor them at home and they attend inferior public secondary schools that don't teach well. As a result many are unprepared when finishing high school. HBCUs reach out to students, stand in the gap, and build them up to where they need to be--- Because it take a village! I am a proud graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana. I had a 2.4 GPA in high school, and no other reputable institution would grant me full admittance. Affirmative action has been around long enough so I feel a fair atonement has been made for the historic discrimination against African Americans. Also statistically affirmative action has not really improved the financial and social standing of Blacks. I feel ending it can have a positive effect and make Black students work harder to meet the standards necessary and not rely simply on their race to get into these top schools.
African American students have always met the standards to apply to the school. So to say they didn’t meet the standard requirement is factually incorrect. In order to apply they have to meet certain criteria.
Rely on race to get in?? Are you insane? Race was considered because it was considered to exclude people previously. 50 years vs 350 years of exclusion? You’re mad.

1) DEI/AA accetances flunk out because college is too hard and they're not prepared
2) colleges will bend backwards to pass and retain them allowing them a degree into a workforce they arent ready killing people
none of those are good
That doesn't fix it tho. Just think of how many high school grads who matriculate to college don't graduate. There's leaks all across the pipeline
@@AP-pk6mk Yep...fix all that, because trying to make up for it at college admissions is way too late...

13News Now CORRECTION: Anti-White, Anti-Asian's RACISM ban's fallout on college admissions
This whole segment is missing the point that college is a really oversold idea. Plumbers are making 80k per year snd college graduates are making 34k per year.
The trades has its own issues but that’s a different story for a different day
The trades are great if you can get into a union. Saying so and so trade is making x amount of dollars a year is overlooking a lot. Many of the jobs that have those high salaries are unionized and tend to be from specific trades. Not knocking on the trades but just like college graduates are now realizing some degrees don't pay as much as others, not all trades pay the same.
you also have to consider someone's career choice. Trade school is great for those who don't wish to pursue a degree
Every plumber isn’t making 80K yearly, that’s a lie that needs to stop being told
while the trades do make more and we need them, we also shouldn't just now wholesale support everyone to go into trades because the tools that the trades use are from industry researchers with university degrees (ie math, science and engineering)
I think this is probably one of the best things to happen to African Americans. So many black kids are intelligent and strong. A new system is emerging. They can now thrive in these HBCUs. It's a new day.

Given entrance based on merit? Disgusting 😂
Legacy is merit based?
Why is she talking about Blq? Affirmative Action has benefited W women the most and ASN Americans greatly
not really, MIT Asian enrollment is up nearly 20% after affirmative action was struck down
You know, if ANYONE really and truly WANTS a college education, they will do what it takes, even if that means a local state or even community college. And besides, most people in college have no business being in college in the first place. Germany does it right: they have different paths after high school, where people can seriously consider trade school. And so on.

What is going to be fun is when they find out does not impact minority enrollment. How about the drop in male enrollment? That is actually a thing.
Men are not a minority in the patriarchal power structure.
What is going to be fun is you finding out that Asian, Indian, and Male enrollment at MIT in the Freshmen Class skyrocketed after Affirmative Action was banned.
Is it because males are being rejected or are they simply not applying?
So, these students believe that if they are not given preferential treatment (which is very different from equal treatment guaranteed by federal law), they are not wanted by the university? The only way for the university to make them feel good is to be admitted under affirmative action, which is to be given preferential treatment? Am I missing something here?
Yup... All of it
You are stupid
As the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court said, "The best way to end discrimination is stop discriminating."
The importance of race as a determinant of success in a post-Jim Crow US continues to decrease, as evidence by Asian and Indian Americans having the highest per capita incomes of any racial groups.

One of the missions of HBCUs is to take a marginal student and turn them into a scholar though extensive mentorship, focused academic studies, and the sense of belonging to a community. Something most PWI's (predominantly white institutions) aren't interested in doing.

@@NycGuy7 Howard is a private HBCU. Private schools typically cost more whether HBCU or not. Most HBCUs are state public schools
Let me add some context for you.
Many Black people don't have educated parents to mentor them at home and they attend inferior public secondary schools that don't teach well.
