My first reaper happened when I was first trying to reach the aurora "Holy shit I nearly died to this sand shark and have no food left. I'll go swimming in the surface, since surface = safe." Turns out in the surface, you cant even hear the reaper approaching, so he just leaped out of the water and swallowed me.
You can't fathom the pain it brings me to see a Cyclops completely destroyed like this. In my playthroughs they never got below about 70% integrity before I hopped out to seal the breaches.
@@wheeeeeha Never built a cyclops, I always go for the prawn suit because it's very fun to be swinging across the roof of the lost river and lava zone. And climbing the blood kelp trench is fun.
I actually did this once, but I died from the fall damage of falling out of the cyclops. The glass breaks when the door does, but for some reason when you hit the water the game doesn't recognize you're swimming until you hit the floor
It's because there are specific portals that force the character into swimming or walking... Every exterior hatch acts as one, the surface in the moon pool and the ocean itself... And (spoilers) the energy fields within the alien structures. If you don't pass through them, or if they glitch for any reason, you'll be stuck walking... This happened to me when I was in the lava biome and I was trapped.
This is exactly right! The model of the cyclops changes right before the explosion, and there's a brief moment where you can be pushed through the opening in the broken bubble window ^^ being far enough away from the fire prevents you from taking burn damage, and if your game doesn't glitch out and make you die from fall damage, eventually you'll start swimming again~
You always gotta love Abandon Ship or Red Alert playing when the ship is being attacked and is on fire, though Really sets the mood for pissing your pants and getting reclaimed water
This is honestly one of my worst nightmares in Subnautica, especially if you haven’t saved before hand. We all know all the work that has gone into making a cyclops and it blowing up is kinda heartbreaking.
My first time building one, it was in an odd area near the start where a cyclops couldn't fit out. I rammed rocks hoping to jump it or something, instead I witnessed it blowing up

L1+R1+X for PS or LB+RB+A for Xbox Using that keybind in the pause menu gives developer commands, Using it in the pause menu after unlocking developer opens the command prompt, Achievements/Trophies are session based so doing all main trophies before finishing the game, quitting out and starting the save again should give you the unlocks. Have fun!
It was because you were standing against the glass, so the kill trigger that goes off when the cyclops explodes doesn't reach you, and you survive. If you stand in the main area away from the window you die.
So I think what’s happening is the game doesn’t have a response to fire with door closed so if the ship blows up it begins the countdown and then plays the “cutscene” if player is inside. Backup: the reason this can happen is revealed with a glitch where you can either clip inside or outside the ship, each one having the incorrect field or you can swim in the ship or fall and jump in the ocean, the way you do this is by using the latter outside the ship( I don’t know how to clip outside the ship but I know I’ve accidentally done it). Back on topic, so the game tells whether you have land physics or water physics and plays the correct outcome for each respectively

I remember that a single experimental verision of subnautica had the cyclops's doors do the same thing as normal base doors. The cyclops would flood after getting damaged and the dorrs let You close off the affected part of the ship wich was later removed for some reason. Propably because it was too OP since You could keep Your cyclops alive as long as one room was undamaged, with the only downside being that the engine didn't work if the engine room was full of water and the fact that flooded rooms made the cyclops sink.
That really sounds interesting, there are so many directions they could have gone. The explosion they put in is really cool, but the other possibilities could have been something special
@@DeadAntGaming from what i remember running around the cyclops checking if all the doors are locked in an emergency, and then trying to fix it before it reaches crush depth really added to the experience, but without the explosion losing your cyclops didn't feel as bad as it does now, in that verison it basically became a brick on the bottom of the ocean that was similar to a flooded base but the New one gives You a feeling of urgency, like a race to get all your things back before the worst happens. Both are great but I get why the devs chose the second verison.

it was so much better back in the days when it just sank, you would save your ass by going out and reaching surface, lokking at it hitting the sea bed and if later on you could craft a deapth upgrade you would go back to the wreckage and salvage it

By first time i blowing up my Cyclopse was a total out of nowhere desaster, my Submarine was on fire, I activated it fire suppressing system and something attacked my hull to get my integrity to 0% I was effectively trapped and could only await death. When I found my submarine again I was in awes of the ruines of it. Legitimate let a tear fall for my heavy duty ship that had survived many repairs only to fail at the way back to the prepared rocket I wanted to escape the planet for the first time with... It was a truly beautiful desaster that I will remember forever! ...unless I should ever suffer dementia xd
@@89BlackGatomon The fastest speed causes the engine to overheat and eventually causes a fire. The engine running is what attracts hostiles like reapers, leviathans, sea dragons, and ampeels to attack the cyclops. You shut the engine off. They lose interest in the cyclops.
@@holidayinn4293 So I play dead until they lose interest in me? Though there are exceptions to the rule, the sealing and the octopus hunting one never stopped attacking until the Cyclops run critical hull damage.
What I always do is kick it into top speed and try to reach the surface, then when I get attacked again or start overheating, put it on slow or turn it off, and rig for silent running
I never came close to losing the cyclops, even on my very first noob playthrough. It caught on fire once but that was it. So I guess I'm either a really good pilot or just really lucky on 4 playthroughs

I didn't research anything in the beginning I wanted to discover stuff naturally but I thought I was being clever with Seamoth trying to enter Aurora from the tail end and it scared me off, looked it up realized the whole area had reapers and I walked into like a juicy meat bag begging to get eaten.
Let’s be honest, if it is about to explode then the first thing your gonna do is not try and close the hatch, your gonna be sprint for the prawn suit/ sea moth

Wondering, if you can run underwater, which has happened to me some times, could you also swim on land? I personally think that „Not swimming“ is more dominant than „Swimming“, so if you are underwater, you could get the flag „no swimming“ and fall onto the seabed, but you can only get the flag „swimming“ while unter the water, which would make this impossible

close hatch wont save from fire, the fire come from the engine so that's logical that it will blow up but closing hatch prevent from drowing if the integrity is damaged so water doesn't go everywhere
I chose to believe that closing the door and standing in the glass makes it so that the shockwave hits us and pushes us out the window before the wave of fiery death hits us.
The hatch CAN save you, here's how. Just touch it when its closing, if you're lucky you'll land in the safe shallows, if you're unlucky it'll land 1000 feet away at crater's edge.
So, the video creator _says_ that the hatch doesn't save/protect you, but they never actually _tested_ whether or not the actual explosion can damage you. Something I noticed while watching is that the only damage the character takes is _fall_ damage, due to the game not registering them as swimming until the hit the ground (which causes the aforementioned fall damage).
They should fix this. You keep surviving the unsurvivable because of a small oversight of the developers. The instant the explosion begins, the front window of the Cyclops partially shatters and you can fall out the front if you are standing next to the glass as it breaks. Someone should have seen that this could happen and kept that window shut until your death animation is over.

Always shut the engine off. If you leave the engine running and you're being attacked you can kiss your cyclops goodbye.

They should fix this. You keep surviving the unsurvivable because of a small oversight of the developers. The instant the explosion begins, the front window of the Cyclops partially shatters and you can fall out the front if you are standing next to the glass as it breaks. Someone should have seen that this could happen and kept that window shut until your death animation is over.
