This is by far Ricky’s best lesson. He not only covers multiple areas of music theory but explains them in a simple, easy-to-understand way. Concepts that can take years to grasp-or remain confusing for many-are made clear in just one lesson. I highly recommend watching it more than once. Ricky is a gifted teacher, and his lesson is refreshingly free of sales pitches and unnecessary fluff. Thanks, Ricky!”😊

I’ve been playing guitar for 35 years but could never grasp theory no matter who taught it. It’s like algebra to me. But your teaching I can understand. Thank you!

One of the best lessons ever. I wanted a simple way to practice and understand intervals, chord tones, and theory. You nailed it! Those 3 videos.
Seesaw, Chord Tones and this one.

I think this video is Ricky’s best. Interested to know the exact name of the Chord lesson you meant as there are several Chord videos that Ricky made.

Please don’t think this is criticism, it’s meant purely as a positive opinion from someone who plays ‘basic’ self-taught guitar and one who has tried (and given up due to the apparent complexity) to understand the very basics of music theory, several times. I came across your latest vids (two of) this morning, purely by accident due to the UA-cam algorithm. In short they have worked! (For me anyway) BUT with the need for me to do some working out/further reading, elsewhere, myself.
Bear with me for a mo but I’m a retired construction lecturer (financial-side) and during my early lecturing years I had to sit down and write, then develop over several years, lecture notes in order for students, with little/or no experience/understanding, to ‘get’ the basics in order to enable me to take them onto the more complicated stuff……my point is that in your two vids I immediately recognised my own initial lecturing situation in that I almost got it straight away but didn’t….for me they need the slightest tweaks, here and there, to enable someone like myself to grasp it. Again, please don’t take this the wrong way, as I’m more than thankful, but I’ve had to spend a few hours tinkering myself in order for the penny to finally drop (after years and years of other UA-camrs vids). I think that you have now given me the ammunition to record my own vid that I can, whenever I need to, come back to for a reinforcement of the basics. Thank you so much!
However, now I’ve had a few hours to digest, including how to play a diminished chord 🤪, can I ask you some, perhaps, daft questions……..what am I able to do with it? What benefit (or further use) can I make of knowing the major scales as full chords? Are you going to take this and use it for another level in a future vid?
    Thanks very much again! 🙂👍👍👍

As We were taught to sing the alphabet, so went the rote long vowels/& short. In music: I helped some by using M,m,m,M,M,m,m(dim). Kinda like a "M.A.S.H." episode. (ha-ha). LuvU

When counting steps on that first diagram, does this mean you will land on the flats and sharp?

No this is in C Major. The framework is for all keys. Maybe I should do a demo in some Sharp and flat keys
