Hearing your voice makes me so happy. I’ve been going through a lot recently. My sister just passed from cancer and it’s really getting to me. Listening to you helps calm me. Like sitting next to a cozy fire. I hope to find a man with a voice like yours to fall asleep to someday. Edited: (I found one he’s very sweet his name is Chris.)
My mom had a Realistic system back in the early 80s... I made a LOT of mix tapes with it. The tape deck had a record level so you could get the saturation of the tape JUST right for the music you were recording (and also eliminate start and stop noise)... And I do miss those diamond lattice wood speakers. Crazy to think everything in here costs 4x as much in today's dollars! But yeah, this whole catalog brings back so many memories! Thanks, awesome video!
Most people seem to watch female ASMRtists, but I've found myself almost exclusively watch male creators for some reason. This guy, Ephemeral Rift, FredsVoice, TheFrenchWhisperer, ASMRctica, etc
This is the type of unique content I want, thanks, sir. I dunno how to describe what nostalgia synapse this is tickling, but oh man. This is fantastic. And relaxing.
I've noticed a old/expensive tech was just built way better. If you actually opened your devices up, they'd be so precisely, intricately and masterfully designed. People took pride in their inventions. Another great video!
I have one of these in mint condition. It is a true pleasure to listen to. Something about the amplification/speakers playing the classical music channel feels almost healing
I can't tell you how much I love listening to your voice, both soothing and calming as well as stimulating at the same time don't ask me how, you definitely have a gift in your voice which would be perfect for an audiobook reader
Thanks for the blast from the past. I remember ALWAYS stopping by the Radio Shack every time we were at the mall. I had forgotten about the room of speakers that each store had until you mentioned "pressing the buttons" at the store.
I watch many asmr channels on UA-cam. When I absolutely can not sleep I can always count on the relaxing asmr channel. This video was delightful. It deeply relaxed me and then I heard a kitty cat meow and a smile slowly spread across my face. The cat only improved the video sir. 😀
I am so happy whenever I see your uploads, it doesn't matter what the subject is because you never fail to make me sleepy. I hope you and your family are well, thank you for your content
Kind of interesting to see that despite housing prices and car prices being so sky high nowadays, there *are* things that have gotten a LOT cheaper since then! 230 dollars gets you 100 watts per channel now, at 0.2 percent THD. That would've been only 55 dollars back then, wow.
Yay!! Another video!! Glad you made this!! Hope you’re doing well, my grandmother was recently put in the nursing home and your videos have been helping me cope with it. Thank you!!
My grandfather had one of these while setups next to his favorite armchair in the family room with all his cassettes and records organized next to the system.
One of my brothers had a Pioneer receiver from 1976 or so up until 2020. It was replaced with an Echo Studio. Another brother had a 20 watt Pioneer and some RS speakers. The nice part about the RS speakers is that they had real veneer cabinets so even if they sounded horrible they were nice furniture.
This was awesome! I really enjoy going through stuff like this with you, I was a big fan of the other videos like this happy to see more. Thank you! Also the new set up sounds awesome!
Great video going down memory lane, 79 was also the height of the Boombox Era, where Sanyo, panasonic and JVC ruled these electronics had character, class and power, again Great video
This breaks me up! Regardless of the ASMR aspect, the dialogue is hilarious. Long live Tandy! To this day I have never considered harmonic distortion as a "thing" to be worried about in stereo systems. Great vid. Anyone remember the "battery club"?
Hello. Sorry I do not comment much, I just wanted to say a short story. When I was young growing up and my mothers parents were still around we always listened to records. Mainly only on Thanksgiving & Christmas. I still hold that tradition to this day. I just wanted to share that because when someone talks about records that is where my brain goes. .I only have around 50 records and a few 45s but they bring back a lot of memories every year.
Yes exactly, me too, I still have a Realistic stereo system (pg six of this catalogue "better" system) I bought with all the money I earned from a summer job back in 1980... and it keeps on sounding great. All the buttons work, even all the lighting. I didn't know they were made by Marantz.
70’s Lawrence Massachusetts-patrolman radios/scanner-clarinette-minimus-optimus-navaho CB’s STA-always had sales so you could save-lay away too-coolest catalogs
As a teenager in the 90's, I played around with my dad's stereo system and record player, which resembled some of these and played some of his records, the Beetles, Buffalo Springfield. In the digital age all of this bulky equipment seems a bit funny now to the average music listener, but in truth, the sound quality was far better than today's tinny sounding "airpods". You can actually feel the music on one of those systems and it's a much more "live" experience. That said, hard to beat blue tooth ear buds when you're on a hike or riding a bike for sheer portable convenience.
Absolutely lovely video. I think the format works very well. I have never understood what an 8-track is or how it works. Do they hold eight tracks? Are they solid or made with tape? Such a mystery lol. Thanks again for another fantastic video.
8 track has 4 channels. Each channel is stereo so 4x2=8 individual tracks on a continuous loop of magnetic tape much like a cassette uses except wider to accommodate all those tracks. It’s all encased in a cartridge that you just shove into the player and it begins playing which ever track is lined up with the play head. Punching the channel button repositions the play head to the next of 4 channels (makes a nice “ker-chunk” sound when it does that. Search for 8 track on my channel.
Excellent speakers those 3s are. You probably already know that a new Dovedale model has been released that was inspired by the Dovedale III speakers that you have.
@@RelaxingASMR OhThanks they do sound AMAZING :D hhaha oh yes they have and the Lintons too :) but I reckon they wont be as good because they werent made in the 70s hahaha :)
That $599 receiver would cost $2480.34 today. That $1329 system would cost $5494.40 today... A 1979 $1 in 1979 would equal $4.13 in today's money... (23¢ today would've been worth a dollar back in '79)
First, your videos are amazing. I'm a big fan. Second, the sound quality on this video was lower that others. It wasn't balanced in my AirBuds and the volume was kind of low. I don't mean to criticize. Just giving feedback. And the issues could be on my end.
Who sat around on Sunday afternoon waiting for Casey Cassum to play their favorite songs (on American top 40) so they could record it with their cassette recorder and crummy Realistic microphone? That must have sounded terrible but we never knew it did! 😂
i have a unit that looks like what you showed in the thumbnail and used it as my main unit when i recorded an album probably a decade ago when the thing was probably 30 years old...
$500 is about $2,072 in todays money. I couldn’t imagine spending that much on just a receiver 🤯🤯🤯🤯. Truly unbelievable. And I thought $150 on mine was expensive. Sheesh
Breakfast in America - Supertramp Micheal Jackson - Off the Wall The B52's Pink Floyd - The Wall Led Zeppelin - In Through the Out Door Eagles - The Long Run
Brother, you're the best in the ASMR business 🙌🏼 Your new format for scanning through books on a computer is excellent, but the audio quality has somehow become much worse Are you able to potentially use a higher-quality microphone?
Arthur Fiedler passed away in 1979, the same year as the catalog you're showing. He was a great conductor and showman, very dynamic.
Boston symphony 👌

@@RowanMackenzie Same. Except for Yang Haiying who I started watching as a recommendation from Mr. Relaxing ASMR years ago!
@@RowanMackenzie me too. I've found lloyd asmr, ephemeral rift, and relaxing asmr to be, in my opinion, the best of the best.
Facts, I must of been listening to this channel for near a decade now

So happy to see a video from you tonight! My grandparents owned a Radio Shack when I was little so this was fun to listen to.

I was there and I can confirm without a doubt:
We ALWAYS wore formals to listen to records at home.

Arthur Fiedler actually passed away in July of 1979 the same year this magazine was released.
I still own a 1970's Radio Shack/Realistic stereo system. Realistic was actually made by Marantz.

I really really enjoyed this one! Can you do more old electronic/radio shack magazines?
Peter Nero was most famous for performing the theme from the 1971 movie "Summer of '42".
That $599 receiver would be about $2200 now. Interesting how the prices for a ‘midfi’ system have stayed consistent despite all the new technology.
My older brother bought me those Nova pro headphone for $34.95 for christmas in '79. They sounded great. 20:50
First asmrist ive watched
Dang, YT didn’t notify me as soon he uploaded. Glad to see you again

I miss RadioShack especially finding electronic components and trying to build something
My dad has that exact stereo. It still works beautifully. Not sure how much he paid for it.
I used to build electronic kits from RS back in the 80s

Nice job, but I prefer the sound of paper pages turning as with your old Radio Shack catalog.

Thank you for another great video. Hope your wife is feeling better. ❤☺️
The subject is perfect, wishing for more like this….but I wish the magazine was real for the page turning
You subtract the 0.2 from 0.5 =
0.3 … love your videos
Reminds me of the kinds my grandpa always used to bring down and listen to the weather on 😊
I honestly wasn’t expecting those prices. That’s expensive even today.
I really miss Radio Shack of the 70s.
love the video ❤

Micheal Jackson - Off the Wall

Eagles - The Long Run

Thought this was a Techmoan video when it first appeared
Techmoan sometimes delivers delicate unintentional ASMR.
Just in time for bed.
the distortion figures...stereo/mono are for the tuner or radio NOT for the aux amp
What was your first car?
Great memories
$1329 in 1979 would be $5,507 today
I miss radio shack
You did that one 10 years ago :=)
Yessssss!❤
I don't mind the cat
Before the Japanese global domination of electronics in the 80s.
Tell me if I'm wrong but those all in one systems would be well over 1k inntodays market! The price conversion is disgusting
The year I was born.
According to the inflation calculator $1329 dollars in 1979 is about $5500 2023.
Tandy in the UK
No they are RECORDS :D vinyls is a silly word I have 5000 Cds and 500 records
599 dollars for a Realistic? Were they smoking crack?!
Reel to Reel? Isn’t that what Mozart used?
Did you say 20000 dollars in todays money?? It’s not right there mister.
Ok now I heard 3000 dollars. Yes it is more right 👍
10-4 good buddy.
