- Flipper directs the Ricks family towards a submarine, where a marine biologist (John Lasell) suffers a lethal sting.

Porter Ricks is forced to close the Coral Key Park and Marine Preserve when deadly scorpion fish are discovered in the area. Dr. Rothwell, a marine biologist, arrives to survey the area in a two-man submarine, and then in scuba gear. An inquisitive Flipper distracts Rothwell's attention and the scientist is stung by the deadly fish. When Rothwell struggles back into the submarine and falls unconscious, Flipper returns to search for Sandy and Bud.

All these years later and see the total stupidity of this, going out in the ocean in that little rowboat with no life preserves and he was if I'm not mistaken a member of law enforcement.
Crazy 60s!!
I wouldn't say it was stupidity......just common sense he was an excellent swimmer.....not a chance of drowning.There was no laws back then regarding life preservers.
