    • @gmcareed
      @gmcareed 3 роки тому +1

      Hi David, before we ever introduce our roses into the US market, we trial them at several sites around the country. Our staff in Tyler also grow them in their own gardens. From our own observations stateside, we have noticed that Eustacia Vye tends to prefer and perm form slightly better in milder climates or where it get protection from direct afternoon sun. When we make these observations, we like to share them with you as we want you to be successful. Now, gardening keeps us humble. This is not to say you can’t have success with EV in hot, humid climates, especially if you are a seasoned gardener. We like to share info that makes the novice more successful. Of course, it all goes back to the parentage of the plant as to how it responds.

I live in Florida where the soil is sandy and full of nematodes. In the case where the rootstock used is fortuniana due to its nematode resistance, do you think the plant should be buried below bud union still? Or above ground to preserve the graft? Great video! A lot of knowledge and advice. I also live in upstate South Carolina, nervous to try a climber on my fence. What do you think would work best for a 5 ft rod iron fence in full sun? My house is blue and the planter has some red azaleas and dianthus and yellow coreopsis and black eyed Susans. I was thinking Graham Thomas or Don Juan? I am sort of a beginner gardener, and would like something not too finicky. Any advice? I like ramblers too, but not sure color wise which would be best.

      Graham Thomas and Don Juan are both great roses. You might also look at another rose I mention from David Austin called Malvern Hills. More of a rambler type with great re-bloom.

    If my climbing roses are already incredibly tall and i want to retrain, do i cut them back and retrain or do i untie and try my best to retrain?

      Preferred would be to untie and retrain. If that doesn't work than cutting back will work.

    You can't ask people to fall in love with anything. To most people single petal rose bushes are ugly. Maybe DA could bring back the gorgeous roses they discontinued like Monstead Wood, Emma Hamilton, Evelyn, William Morris, Evelyn etc., and quit asking people to buy their single petal ones !!

      That's the beauty of roses. So much diversity. Each to their own and in all honesty I find your comment a bit harsh.

      @Paulzimmermanroses I am angry that I can't find Evelyn and William Morris ANYWHERE. Crowned Princess Margareta also has been discontinued! Evelyn and Emma Hamilton also nowhere to be found! I don't think you'll find many people who will say that Totering by gently is in anyway better rose than any of those discontinued ones. 5 petals do not make up a rose! Sorry. If they're struggling for space they can discontinue the single petal ones no one is buying or loving. Bring back what people love.

      @@violettawlodkowska4190 Original roses were five petals so a five petaled rose is very much a rose. But each to their own. The roses you mention can sometimes be found via cuttings exchanges. You might also try Help Me Find Roses. Some smaller nurseries carry the out of commerce David Austin Roses.

      @Paulzimmermanroses thank you! I will try these sources. I did get Crowned Princess Margareta ❤️ I love all my DA roses that I have so much. They're literally my babies. Have Scepter'd Isle, Gertrude Jeckyl, three Tranquility roses, Lichfield Angel, Golden Celebration and Crowned Princess Margareta. Checking DA website every morning to buy 2 quart potted Batsheba and Princess Alexandria of Kent.
      Thank you for all your advice, informative videos and inspiration. Learning a lot from you !! Thank you !! 🙏
