Yes! On the shade tolerant roses. I have a section of my cutflower garden that is partially shaded. I would love to know which roses would do ok in that section.
I've been growing roses for decades and always on the lookout for the most fragrent roses. So far, the McCartney rose is the most fragrent rose I have ever smelled. They are a beautiful pink bloom. You can easily smell them from 8-10 feet away, and the scent is excellent. I still have one in my garden.
Not only do I agree with your outstanding list....your enthusiasm and passion for these gorgeous roses is fabulous and makes us love them even more!!! Thanks for sharing!😍
My fave is Gertrude Jekyll. Strong perfume! If you are looking for the bloom and perfume this is it. The actual bush could be a little prettier, maybe fuller but the blooms are very pretty. This rose’s perfume actually made it up and through my bedroom window! Heavenly scent! Like a fine, French-milled soap. I think roses generally grown better in Europe. The deer loved my Gertrude Jekyll and wouldn't leave it alone. It didn't respond well to transplant shock and unfortunately passed away while in dormancy planted in a pot, over our harsh zone 6a winter. The variety is so pleasant but it needs to be protected by a passionate and observant gardener.

Wonderful, I have a few that you have featured, Gertie is my favourite followed by Jude but you have introduced me to some beautiful Rose's....it's so addictive!
Charles Austin rose😀 This is an old DA rose (1973) and has absolutly amazing fruity scent. I have a garden in Poland (zone 6b) and almost 80 varieties of roses😉( I love scent of Chandos Beauty and Bienvenue but they are not DA roses)
I agree about 'Jude the Obscure' having a strong fruity fragrance. It's sad that some of these older varieties are no longer available. Another one is 'St. Swithun', a delicious bubblegum-myrrh fragrance you can almost eat.
Indeed Emily Brontë and Munstead Wood have an amazing fragrance, better in their 3rd year onward. I think i had a better nose before covid but these two are my best scented. Munstead wood is easier to propagate from cuttings than other austins ive tried. I still waiting for Mme. Alfred Carrière and Madame Isaac Pereire to fully mature and see what all the fuss is about.
I absolutely loveee those roses!! My Alfred Carriere died on me 😭 I hope you have better luck with yours. I agree… the scent does get stronger as the plant matures 😊

I remember taking my first sniff of Tess d'Urbeville, and I was surprised at the strong elderberry smell. It stayed im my memory for all these years even though I do not grow it anymore.

Hello David, I certainly found it a true treat you gave us in showing us the best of the Perfumery roses. Most delighted to see and learn. Thankyou. I am just new to and planting my first bare root rose x9 this past week ongoing still, & another 9 will be flown in to me mid next month. I am in Brisbane, Australia. 3x Kordes Dark Desire, Very strong Perfumery. 3x Tangles florabunda, 3 x Dwarf Fairy Red. All are 5 star in health.
My absolute favorite for both beauty and perfume mustered wood, radio times(glowy pink, quick rebloom), st cecilia.. sounds like I need to make room for Jude, and GJ
I have a little rose bush called Precious Amber which is described by sellers as lightly scented. Yesterday was sunny and hot, my roses have just started blooming and I went from rose to rose having a good deep sniff, and Precious Amber had a stronger and better perfume than Gertrude Jekyll, who is covered in big blooms this week. I think Gertrude is consistently gorgeous and other roses sometimes hide their scent and only bring them out on certain days because they are THAT EPIC.
I have some of these roses and I love all their scents. However, my strongest scented rose is missing in this list - Harlow Carr - smells of old English rose, I can smell it whenever I walk by it. I’ve been thinking about buying Emily Bronte and Desdemona and your description of their scent has sealed the deal for me. 😍
Absolutely beautiful description of all your roses 🌹. I love my Munstead Wood for her scent too, but also for her velvety petals. They are exceptional this year!!! My very first roses were actually Munstead Wood and Gertrude Jekyll. Do you have Poet’s Wife Daren? Her scent is gorgeous too and she looks like sunshine ☀️
I am surprised Eustacia wasn’t on the list but how do you even choose? FYI Jude is the most beautiful rose I have ever seen. It is so unusual and mysterious to me. I just love it! Love this video and would love to see more!
Yes, thank you so much , Darren. A great Top of the Scants! But please can you tell me how many walls you have on your property??? How many climbers can you fit into a garden? How many archways can a path take? What do you do after the blooms have stopped?
Die Rosen von David Austin sind so bezaubern und schön. Ich liebe sie so sehr. Die sind die Quelle für Glück und Schönheit. Die Rosen sind für uns ein Lebenselixier.
I am delighted to find someone else who loves Abraham Darby. The fragrance is so strong and fruity. And personally I find its blooms the most beautiful of all my roses - on a good day. Unfortunately DA withdrew it in the UK a few years ago, I believe because it is so prone to disease in our climate as the season goes on. I had to cut mine back severely yesterday because the leaves were affected by black spot and rust, and maybe other problems too. It also tends to produce lots of thin wiggling little stems shooting out in all directions. One day perhaps the David Austin team will create something as fragrant and colourfully beautiful as Abe without the disease issue. But I'll cherish my example and enjoy his early-season display again next year.
That's it!!! I would buy them. Darren I watch your videos sometimes for background soothing voice. It calmest me down and brings me peace. I love your voice 😊
I have Strawberry Hill and I think it's the one I sniff the most in my garden. It's such a distinctive smell and this year I think mine has quite an aniseedy scent, especially when it's first opened. I'm surprised you didn't include Golden Celebration as I find that one very strong. I'm thinking of going for either Boscobel or Jubilee Celebration next, your description of Jubilee might just have made my mind up for me 🌹 🌹 🌹
Jubilee C. is definitely a mindblowing rose. Its highly recommended! She is beautyful as scented. Especially in the early morning hours! You could have a part of heaven here 'downstairs' with her.
I'm a rose newbie so maybe you can educate me. My first year Strawberry Hill is beautiful and loaded w/ gorgeous blooms. The fragrance is so different from the roses I grew up w/ in our California garden- Mister Lincoln and Peace. Strawberry Hill smells like an old perfume bottle in an antique shop (so THAT"S what myrrh smells like!) But I wonder why my new Strawberry is so lightly scented. Do roses increase in fragrance over time? Does intensity have anything to do w/ the time of day?
@@suzearl Rose fragrance is often a topic for discussion, or even heated debate. This is my take on it. The scent is affected by all sorts of factors - soil, feeding, watering, air temperature, the humidity in the air, position in the garden, exposure to the sun, wind, time of day, time of season, air pressure, stage of the bloom's development, and even the person doing the smelling can have stronger or weaker responses to certain types of fragrance (Covid has wiped out many people's responses to some types of rose fragrance, temporarily at least) and the "smeller" can also be affected by what they have eaten, drunk, etc. and be more responsive/sensitive at certain times of the day. Women's sense of smell can peak at certain times of the month. You can see that this whole experience of smelling a rose is incredibly complex and is a two-way process between the rose and the human nose - both contribute to the overall effect.
@@darren-harwood I am beyond excited, I ordered my first one yesterday. I don’t have any David Austin roses but I will🥰 I’m new to roses.. there’s A LOT to learn… hope you’re feeling better hun

Lovely 😍. Enjoyed watching ❤
Thanks for watching ❤️
I have some of these roses and I love all their scents. However, my strongest scented rose is missing in this list - Harlow Carr - smells of old English rose, I can smell it whenever I walk by it. I’ve been thinking about buying Emily Bronte and Desdemona and your description of their scent has sealed the deal for me. 😍
Love your content Darren. I cant get enough of david austin/rose enthusiasts
I really want to plant munstead wood but I’m scared away by hearing that she is super thorny!
Great rose and very easy to propagate with woody cuttings.
I don’t have Poets Wife :/ Looks stunning though :) oh, Munstead wood 😍😍😍😍😍 Loveeeee xx
@@Rena0Dawn go for it x
@@Rena0Dawn she is super thorny but a must have. I wouldn’t be without this rose. She also blooms through high heat and humidity, very heathy
Спасибо за видео! Ваши розы абсолютно прекрасны!
Wow, gorgeous blooms.
Cannot believe I have six of them, and now one more on the list, if it is available here.
Thank you.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Made my morning thankyou 😊
🥰🥰😘❤️❤️
Just planted 'the Generous Gardener' today. Hope to, eventually, get every DA rose. I have over 50 already mostly DA.
Amazing! Thank you very much!
All my pleasure :)
I was miserable until I watched this! Tess of the D’Urbervilles is absolutely delightful!
And Tess really does last a long time when cut. I had one for a month in a vase!!! I just ended up keeping it as a dried flower.
Love David Austin roses!
Me too 😍😍😍😍
I am surprised Eustacia wasn’t on the list but how do you even choose? FYI Jude is the most beautiful rose I have ever seen. It is so unusual and mysterious to me. I just love it! Love this video and would love to see more!
Ahh, I agree…. There’s something very special about Jude 😍 Thanks for watching. Sending love xxx
Yes, thank you so much , Darren. A great Top of the Scants! But please can you tell me how many walls you have on your property??? How many climbers can you fit into a garden? How many archways can a path take? What do you do after the blooms have stopped?
Haha one manages to squeeze in the roses. Once the roses are done, I tend to the house haha xx
Die Rosen von David Austin sind so bezaubern und schön. Ich liebe sie so sehr. Die sind die Quelle für Glück und Schönheit. Die Rosen sind für uns ein Lebenselixier.

Das ist meine Lieblings Video!
Meine Lebens Retter!!
Danke sehr 🌺 Darren!!
What about Abraham Darby??? I have most of these varietals, but I have to say, Abe is my most fragrant.
@@nikkonch he is truly overall my favorite of my 50ish DA varietals. 👍🏻
😍
Captivating
Thanks, some beautiful roses. Any notes on their hardiness? I am looking for these sorts of roses, but the hardier the better.
Oh Gosh they're incredible. Would any or all of these grow from seeds? Also would they thrive in the tropics like Barbados West Indies ?
Thank you 💕💕 another beauty is wild Edrig, he smells gorgeous, and you HAVE to try young Lycidas mmmmmmm mama!!!
Wild edric love to rub my face in the blooms and inhale the scent
Guaranteed to cheer you up

I’m so saddened to know Judas the obscure is discontinued. I’m still on the look out here in the states to get her.
Darren, you should read audiobooks!
🥰😘😍❤️🤗
That's it!!! I would buy them. Darren I watch your videos sometimes for background soothing voice. It calmest me down and brings me peace. I love your voice 😊
Thanks very much for your video ! Very interesting:)
Jubilee 😍
@@dr.viktoriakerekes8886 jubilee, oh how I love thee
Brilliant, all of them!
I have Gertrude Jekyll rose and Lady Emma Hamilton too.
I love your reference to ( Her), yes Roses definitely are female.🥰
