  • This video shows how I filled, topped up the gearbox and final drive on my 1993 R100GS PD. There is also a short section on lubricating the rear brake shoe actuation pivot, as well as lubrication of the foot brake lever pivot.

Thanks for the comment and welcome, hope you enjoy what is on offer here. Yes, my old GS PD has many miles under it’s wheels. I got my license in 1970 and have ridden most days ever since. This bike is the one I like best of all the ones I’ve had.

Thanks again for your videos, Guy!
I was recommended to use SAE 75W140 GL5 VS for the gear box and put a whole liter in.

My pleasure. Interesting about the viscosity recommendation. How long have you been using it and how does it compare with 80 W 90? I am surprised you needed as much as a litre.

I'm using it for half a year now, since the rebuilding of my gear box. Gear box is working well, no complaints. The guy who recommended it, specializes in rebuilding gear boxes. He said that one bearing doesn't get optimal lubrication with the original amount of oil, due to the tilt of the motor, iirc.

Hi, nice having your videos back, they’re great!!
Here, down in south of Spain, I use 75w140 GL5 for the gearbox and final drive. It’s much hotter down here. In g-box, I just top it till the filler level (about 800cc). Keep the good filming.

I have looked everywhere for a simple rear wheel disk removal but none so far. I ordered a floating rear disk and see there are flat twin lock tab washers on the hub hex nuts. With locktite are they req? should I source new lock tabs? thnx, checked my oil levels after this vid.

441rider, if it was me and no new lock tabs were available, I’d use loctite. If I did that I’d check the bolts were still tight periodically until I was happy.

hmm, well I will look for some since the bike is running now no rush. I will take it easy on the rear disk so not to cause excess side play in bearings when brake humps from what may be a distorted disk. I think the rear may have been rubbing at some point causing the warp. I will look for metric nylock nuts of grade 8 or better as well.

Hi there does the oil need to be hot to drain it out
