That trick at the end with the primer and finger action got the fuel flowing. Mind you I found your vid after father in law drove to Rocky for that primer pump part. He is not yet back so hopefully he couldn’t find that part and comes home empty handed.
Another tip for people is to put a 2nd filter like a CAV style in the system before the genuine filter, the reason for having it before is that the element is cheeper and when it gets blocked it stops fuel going through where the genuine one just bypasses when blocked allowing all the crud to get to the injection system
Hi, thanks for that nice video. On my Nissan Patrol GR V 3.0 Disel both of your ways to get the air out of the system were not working. I used on the outlet a hose with T section and air gun. Within 1 minute the system was filled up with disel. To estimate the pump I have pushed it view moments. By the way what model/year was that again?? Because on my care was that water sensor missing
Alex good video smart hints especially the hose clamp (I will do that one next time). Maybe you should have started the wagon to show the viewers that they can run a bit rough until the fuel pump starts sucking a full pipe (no air bubbles)
Just to give a suggestion if you’re wanting to capture the fuel from the filter you could use the water drain grommet wingnut that is on the bottom of the water trap it may reduce clean up.
God...I so want a diesel for my Jeep! You guys are so lucky to have a large number of diesel 4x4’s to choose from in Australia. A true bitch to get a 4x4 diesel in California! Nice job on your fuel filter change! I liked the plastic clamp you used.
Thanks champiom that trick at the end worked a treat, changed the filter only too found out the primer is fucked lol but that manual prime worked an absloute treat, good shit
bit of a novice question here but just wondering the easiest way to tell which is your inlet hose/line in general (I'm working on a hilux) I heard it can help to leave the hose off to remove air locks during the priming process
Hi there very good and instructive video mate! Just bought one like this and went to changing the fuel filter but couldn't find the water trap sensor. I can see the lift pump isn't the right one on mine so someone must have messed up with it at some point. The filter that's fitted on it has a drain plug but no wires at the bottom. I just got the proper Nissan lift primer pump and the fuel water sensor that goes on the filter but can't find the electric connector you show at 1:10 in the engine bay. Do you have an idea of how I could properly re-connect the water trap sensor so I can get the warning light come on the dash when the water's due to be drained, please?
Nice video but missing the top tiny O ring that goes on the threaded shaft that you screw the filter on.It's more of a seal. The genuine Nissan fuel filters always have them but not aftermarket filters.
They are standard GU series 3 headlights actually! I dressed them up a bit. There's a writeup here: intentsoffroad.com/easy-gu-patrol-headlight-upgrade/
All comes down to opinion, but dirty diesel can be really bad for an engine as you could imagine. I always change fuel filter with every service (Every 5000kms) its like a cheap insurance.
lol can get dodgy fuel in Perth..... $45.00 for a Ryco fuel filter? genuine Nissan filters are cheaper what about the water separator sensor (clean that thing) 40 000 kilometers for fuel filter about 10 000 kays is better (oil and oil filter every 5000 kays) oh and use a fuel treatment ??? thinking of getting a second fuel filter head and splicing the wiring on second water trap sensor might have to have a look at super cheap gear
@@Alex.G Yep. There is another about the size of a $1 coin that goes over the centre tube. The nissan part number is 16407w4900 if you want to look it up. It does not come with fuel filters but is often lost when changing them.
If you don't have a vice you can flip (upside down) the filter housing and bolt it on to remove cartridge 😎
That’s good thinking 👍
genius, facing that exact problem!
Genius
Yep, brilliant!!👍
Thanks Alex, still using your vids years later

Good info ,always makes the job easy when you have clean engine compartment like yours.

thanks for that mate. my navara zd30 was surging under load suddenly today, especially 3rd gear.
swapped the fuel filter now she's. sweet again.
Thanks mate. About to do mine. Dreading what I find when looking at the diesel. Keep safe mate 👍

I always change the oil/filters on my Gu.....and now I will do the fuel one as well!!! Cheers fella

What do you expect from a back yarder fixer,
and the shit on the floor is in his shed
thank you that was a great help
Great info mate! How about doing a MAF sensor cleaning on a GU?
Nice one fellas :) always learn something new with the Backyard Mechanic videos :) Cheers, Don (Dons Shed and Xplor Overland)

Don't you have the 3.0 TDI WJ Cherokees?
Awesome video great advice going to give it a go on my Toyota coaster 1hz

My best in general way would be to trace the lines, the one going to the engine would be the outlet and the one heading down the back would be inlet
@@Alex.G cheers mate and just checking it'd be the outlet hose I'd want to leave off not the inlet as I accidentally said inlet in the first comment
@@eilo4213 yeah correct it is the outlet hose you would leave off
Awesome video mate, very well done. Cheers
I like your colour coded battery clamps
Top info... and will do!!!
Very clear!

You are a legend
Another top video mate. How are you going with the lift kit?
I've got all the bits except the shockies which are still on backorder!
@@Alex.G awesome mate, looking forward to seeing which kit you went for and the install video. Keep up the good work. Fantastic content as always.
curious - is the lift pump seal, which sits between the pump and the fuel filter, missing ? part # 16407W4900 see vid at 5 mins 44
Great video. Thank you doing mine today.😆
Thanks heaps!!
🍻 fór that, now I’ve gotta find my spare filter #️⃣🤦🏻♂️
Thanks mate great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks mate much appreciated
Good Video, Now tell us about those head lights how and where ya got em?
They are standard GU series 3 headlights actually! I dressed them up a bit. There's a writeup here: intentsoffroad.com/easy-gu-patrol-headlight-upgrade/
Does it have a secondary fuel filter?
Nah I've been meaning to put one on for about 5 years 😂
7:43 onwards cracked my misses up.. Only hearing the audio..
😂
Great vedio mate. Cheers
Thanks, now off to my Patrol ...

someone help, it doesnt wanna prime, ive done the other trick aswell, nothing works
Do I breathe on the air filter O-ring?
Hahaha yeah makes sense right? 😄
thank yyou very much (vince french amator )
Nice video
What happens if there is water in it?
You can drain the water out the trap in the bottom. Then you'd want to check again every so often to make sure no more is coming through
oh weird, my 2016 Y61 has the filter under the car by the fuel tank
Thanks
Good info - thanks. At ua-cam.com/video/HK4Olrh7S0k/v-deo.html it looks like the bonnet strut is bent?
I bought a patrol will 500k on it and the fuel filter was stock 😢
Daaaaaamn what a trooper though!

You forgot the 3rd o-ring
3rd o ring? Never seen such a thing. The new filter only comes with two.

Hmm.. Well there ya go! I guess mine went missing sometime in the past.
Shes a bit tight
