Pusser was still a larger than life figure in law enforcement in the south! His life and death, as well as his wife’s, has always been intriguing!
    Anxious to hear more.

I've never been to the Pusser Museum, but I can only imagine that once the first lie was told, I believed that the lies kept getting bigger and bigger until it turned into a money-making machine. Now that there might finally be justice for Pauline, the Bufford Pusser cronies don't like that their little money-making fortune could finally be coming to an end.

Mike just found your vids and love them. I never knew of any of this. A couple things that don't add up to me: 1) The 'ambush' time changes. I went back and read newspaper (Jackson Sun) accounts and the first story said 5:45 AM. Then I read 5 AM. The Pusser Museum says he took the phone call at home at 4:30 AM. This seems to me as trying to fit the nighttime into his story about not seeing the hit vehicle. Map program shows about a 25-minute drive from his house to ambush site, but I think he would cover that quicker in a squad car.
    2) This is the sheriff, not a normal citizen, with situational awareness skills driving into a sketchy call, in a bad part of the county, before sunrise, with his wife. He somehow doesn't see, hear or otherwise notice the car (there was light - not daylight, but light in August), and he dives to the floorboard upon being shot at. His wife is hit in the head, and he does what every teenager in every horror movie ever does: He pulls off at a cemetery just 2 miles from the original attack site. The car attacks again and puts a clean shot through the windshield blowing her back portion of skull off. Buford is also 'hit' but is listed in 'fair' condition. Here is the definition of fair condition: This means the patient’s vital signs are stable and within normal limits. They’re conscious, though they might feel uncomfortable. And the doctor expects them to have a favorable (promising) outcome. They speak of his numerous surgeries on his website but reading further it seems they were simply cosmetic in nature.
Long time friend quoted in story, 'Buford's been the target of two previous shooting attempts.'
No spent cartridges at ambush site? Not impossible but also not probable.
State Patrol trooper at hospital stated Buford was, 'addled and incoherent.'
When asked if he knew the assailant(s) Buford said, 'I don't know.' He sent a nurse down to say he would not be making any statements.
    3) So, given the above, did Buford have a police radio in the car? Did he use it? Did Buford have a gun in the car? If so, did he use it? Did Buford have a steering wheel and foot-feed throttle in the Fury? If so, did he use them? Why would he wait to meet an ambulance on the road instead of simply driving to the hospital?
    4) How is a street smart, bad ass, tough on crime sheriff unable to solve his wife's murder and his own attempted murder? Was he pounding the pavement relentlessly in this quest until his dying day?
I'm new to this case so I may have stated things that are well known but this is the best way to learn!!

what i wondered about is that if they were ambushed, how did the bad guys know they were going to take the back roads and waited behind the church?

This case interest me greatly for several reasons, one reason in particular is ( A former director of the TBI told me that Bufford had carried the same type of guns used in Paulines death in the trunk of his car and that he was a prime suspect in her death )
This could be a major embarrassment for the State of Tennessee if it is proven that Bufford murdered her.

Now with the TBI being a stand one and independent agency, I think they want to clean up an image they inherited when they were a division of the Department of Public Safety. The case was allowed to cool when it was the TBCI. They have investigated this well in the past several months since they were given new information. As the old saying goes, "There is a new sheriff in town."

In under 6 weeks I read your book twice. This Pauline update is going be interesting. Depend on official autopsy report we know more. But your opinion of the events of that night makes the most common sense. I grow up in 1960’s & 1970’s times was a lot different than it is today. We didn’t even start locking our home doors until 1st part of the 80’s as an example.

How true. I built my first house in 1986 (in my early twenties) and promptly lost my front door key somehow. I lived in that house until the mid 90's and never locked the door. It was a rural town 35 minutes out of Milwaukee, but still unfathomable to think of doing that today.

Ive just been wondering if Dwana may have learned some information about her dad, possibly being involved in this murder, that could have led to her taking her own life? I spoke to her a few times through emails about 15 years ago. I live pretty close to Hornsby, TN, near the Hardeman, McNairy and Chester county lines. My Dad ran around in Selmer in the mid to late 60's, while Buford was Sheriff. Dad said sometimes when Buford got off work, he would meet up and drag race with them late at night.

When I was in the Marine Corps League an old guy that was a recruiter in the county where Buford was sheriff told me a story years ago. He said him and the Army recruiter were meeting up with these two women at a secluded place. One day his woman didn’t show up. He asked where she was and he was told she had went off with Pusser. So, Pusser was messing around. He also said Pusser drove like a maniac. I believe it’s a possibility that he might have killed his wife over an affair he was having with this other woman.

Brother, I’m 64 feb 19”th 2024 and as a teenager when the Walking Tall movie came out it infatuated my dad. We went to drive-in in WVA and the movie excited me. He made sure we knew about Buford just like he made sure we saw the moon landing. Lololol
It was a big part of my life because of my dad. He brought it up many times over the years.
About 5 years ago I found a dvd in a pawn shop in Rockford Tenn about Buford that was a “B” rated movie. Dad didn’t believe it so I mailed it to him. He was proud he had the original before the famous Walking Tall movie came out. Different lead actor.
I’m now trying to reveal to him these truths I feel are real from my life experiences.
    Crazy but true.
I’ve been a bad boy and dealt with many sheriffs in many counties in many states.
This mans videos fits with every experience I’ve had across USA in all my years.

    We are from Oklahoma..
He did do a lot of deliveries of guns and explosives also and was known to be in that area a lot and was during this time period.
When you said something about the gun exchange and the Oklahoma license plate, my mind went immediately to him!

In Tennessee the protocol was that these officials had to concur on the need for an autopsy. This was a sheriff's wife who was murdered hours after he was overheard threatening to kill her.

I was informed of a gun that may have been used. I checked it out and the gun's back story seemed credible so with the owner permission I contacted the TBI. They took the gun in for testing . They asked if I had other information which I shared with them. Several people told me they had agreed to be interviewed about what they knew. It could be any one or all of these things, or a lead from elsewhere but it seems to have started then.

So, your suggesting that the TBI knowingly interviewed new witnesses, obtained new evidence, got Pauline's family involved. then got the prosecutor convinced that an autopsy needed to be performed, then got a Judge to sign a court order allowing it just so they say its inconclusive? Why then did they, in your estimation, start this process to begin with?

Here are my thoughts. I think you're right, but you may also have to be open that the autopsy after all this time could still be inconclusive. Some of Buford's inconsistent statements could be written off as trauma-related. There could also be multiple things that make it impossible to know. A marksman could have placed a shot that covers up evidence that Buford shot her, is one. All I am doing is using my analytical and law enforcement background, having been both a military cop and an Intelligence Analyst in my time in the military. All I can say is Buford and Governor Blayton were pals. I was an early teen when Buford died or was killed while campaigning for Blayton. I was too young to know much about when he was actually sheriff. My first exposure to this was the two Walking Tall movies. I am skeptical that the TBI reopening the investigation will lead to a firm conclusion because the wants to the that know are all dead. We used to say when I was an Intel analyst that it's only speculation of what they will find. It may be an excellent educated speculation, but it still is a speculation nonetheless.

In all fairness if we are going to explore the possibility that Buford Pusser being a hero has been exaggerated then we also need to consider the possibility that the claims of him being a fraud have also been exaggerated. I suspect the truth is probably somewhere in the middle but we will probably never know for sure. I'm sure he had his flaws and sins like the rest of us. In my opinion he didn't kill his wife because I can't see him shooting himself in the face to cover up a crime. It just doesn't make since. Anyway I will continue to admire this man until I see PROOF to do otherwise.

The comparison I make on something like this was the exhumation of JP Richardson (“The Big Bopper”). He was exhumed many years after death to be reburied in another section of a cemetery in Beaumont, TX, where a statue could be placed in his honor. Bill Bass conducted a photographic autopsy due to rumors and speculation that he had survived the crash (which it was discovered he did not). According to Bass, the body was in near perfect condition. I would assume that this would be the case with Mrs. Pusser.

If she was properly embalmed she should look similar to how she appeared the day of the burial. I say this because she was in a casket and the casket was placed in a vault for burial. This helps preserve the body even more. It 's possible they could determine entry and exit wounds, trajectory of projectiles, how many time she was actually shot, other forms of trauma that have occurred etc.
