      And can we start breeding for health and longevity? I want my pigs to live longer than five and a half years max and without having to fight for their health to reach that point…

      @@TheFullStarThank you. I know that the average person doesn't understand or know about ethical or preservation breeders in horses, dogs, guinea pigs or whatever, but it's frustrating seeing people only want to support badly bred animals. (only ones that end up in rescue for dogs at least, as ethical breeders take back any dog they have produced at any times, and have fail safes and systems to ensure being able to facilitate and transport animals back or go to get them) If we don't support ONLY great breeders bettering breeds there will be no purpose bred animals. Animals made to have predictable temperament, longevity, structure etc.

    Considering a guinea being small, it's unbelievable how big their placentas are and each baby having their own 😮

    Our momma Bourbon was misgendered years ago had a birth and just like you said, even though I was watching her a hawk she had them in the early morning. 3 did not survive. 1 was very underdeveloped and the other two looked absolutely perfect but were gone. One survived. Baby Stout, who is not such a baby anymore but I have videos of her and she had no use of her back legs and she had a clubbed front paw. I massaged her limbs every day for a week and one day she was running around like nothing was ever wrong. Even the club foot corrected itself. Now she’s the spunkiest of all. My assumption is she got stuck on the way out and that’s why she was so messed up at first.
    Thankfully everything turned out okay for her and Momma Bourbon but I never want to go through that again. She was misgendered by a veterinarian back in Hawaii when we first got her. So I always advise people to get two opinions ❤️

    So sorry for your loss, Saskia, and volunteers. I have watched my rescue mamas eat the placenta. I was usually there for the birth,. Once I had to pull the baby out of mama because she was stuck and the vet refused to help after I pulled the stuck baby out two more arrived, but still born. Fortunately, mama and two babies survived, and I still have them. But it is absolutely heartbreaking. I did manage to take a video of this. It is on my channel. I pulled the sack off too and massage the chest gently and I know I saved her life.

    Obstructed labour due to a big baby Guinea pig. Notice the bowel movement within the sac? That shows a baby in distress and therefore most likely died during labour or shorty afterwards, the mother not removing the sac would have it die if still barely alive. I doubt it would have lived any way without human intervention

    I had something similar happen, but I do believe it was a stillborn. The momma had a history of only having one huge baby, and they would die soon after birth. When I rescued her, she was HUGE. She had 4 babies, and three were still wet when I found them. The fourth one was huge the sac was off, the baby was mostly dried, but little Cupcake was dead. I was scared to death she was injured after giving birth to such a big baby, then the additional 3, but she was fine. Her other babies seemed fine. Four yrs later, sadly, I lost her, and two of her remaining babies, but she never had to worry about having babies again. And she and her babies were very muched loved.

    Videos like this are an excellent example of why you shouldn't breed guinea pigs. This video would be good for any future would be breeders to watch. I take it this was filmed on Saturday before the live last wheek? Anyway I sent in a donation. the other day. You have saved a lot of guinea pigs.💯🐹🐹

    Thanks for sharing this, Saskia. I hope Mama pig is OK. Once I adopted a guinea pig and did not know she was pregnant. She gave birth to a stillborn baby while I was asleep. I woke up and found it the morning. Fortunately Mama was OK but it was really shocking and sad. 😢 No shade to people who responsibly breed guinea pigs but it's something I would never do after witnessing that.

    Wow that baby was huge. How did the mom even get it out! Sad that it did not make it. But thank you for showing. I never wil breed with my piggies. So i never will see this in real. But it was interesting to see the placenta of the guinea pig and the sack arround the big baby. Does the mom get nutrients out of eating the placenta? Cannot imagine of eating it myself with my daughters. They were pretty big 😆

    • @kdkorz10211
      @kdkorz10211 7 місяців тому +1

      I’d imagine they get some nutrients like iron, but the main reason they eat it is to get rid of any smells that could attract predators.
