That Bill Clinton picture on the wall was huge. I think this film is meant to be in the same time and universe as Silence Of The Lambs, Twin Peaks or X-Files. PS Everyone is going to go on about Nick Cage who was weird and scary (Hannibal Lecter was scarier in my opinion) but Maika Monroe and Alicia Witt were phenomenal also. The whole cast really. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a sequel. Great video!

I watched this movie literally today having never heard of it, but my dad bought tickets on a whim and I gotta say it was better than I thought! My favorite scene was the parallel between Lee and Longlegs with their respective driving scenes in the same car. Nic cage was genuinely insane in this and I gotta give him props because his character was who Jared Leto wants to be when he method acts. Like holy shit. The whole atmosphere really helped with the suspense, with all the open space and all. The trailers for other neon films while in the theater made me genuinely want to watch them, and that usually doesn’t happen. I can’t wait for Cuckoo to come out.

  • @bobthehoboiscool
    @bobthehoboiscool Місяць тому +146

Nic Cage's scream in the car was actually what completely took me out of the movie. The tension was building and letting it release that way was extremely unfulfilling. There were so many jumps in the storyline that were jarring like the movie had been chopped up to save time.
    ****Spoilers****
The whole aspect of putting souls in the dolls was also very unfulfilling. It's like they went "okay we have an interesting premise with a serial killer... let's just throw that out the window and SATAN IS BEHIND IT ALL." Even the whole "a gift from the church" part was very interesting. The mother was obviously involved from the moment you meet her. I really felt this movie lacked some cohesion in key moments. Moments when she was actually doing detective work and such were very interesting, but as soon as it completez the jump over to supernatural it lost me. Se7en is a great example pf how this should be done. Also "hey I conveniently have a photo of this exact guy in my childhood box of memories, so now we can go look aaaaaaand he's already caught. Just weird direction choices that could have been so much better.
I understand I'm in the minority about this movie since everyone else seems to think it was great, but hey, that's cinema.

I don't think the photo was meant to be convenient but more a part of destiny that was playing out. Much like her visions, it was all clearly part of some immaculate design wherein she'd be able to bring an end to everything and save that last girl. That's how I saw it anyway.

    • @tommym7321
      @tommym7321 Місяць тому +102

Eh kinda, but I think that was all kind of dashed when her mom tells her story and basically exposition dumps all over us. I really wish they hadn't done that. I think even if they just showed all the same stuff without her narration it would have worked out better and it would have given more reasons for rewatching it so you could piece everything together.

Just sit back, watch, & let the story unfold naturally
-devil in the details; & in UR FACE as well
STILL can’t get this outta my head
(Longlegs, Hereditary, Late Night w/the Devil, Talk to Me)
my list for the past; LONG time:
(“Midsommar”-I get i but bit presumptuous, self important imo; NOT “a” Hereditary)
There’s jst “no waste” w/this: GO SEE IT! Even if u don’t like it like many of us
there’s some that wanted it more “Zodiac”; more “puzzle solving”; MORE of jst not what it is (marketing sold it like this)
Go 2 movie, let IT tell/show what it is; not ur “thoughts/expectations”
Talked to some where it didn’t meet expectations, which …BUT then ODDLY-their expectations were not even “good”
      So…???
See what “expectations” can do? Just let the film show you what it is
This is a classic; right up there w/Se7en, Silence of the Lambs, The Shining. Not that it’s even the strongest amongst those; but those 3 films are absolutely what this film gives

I liked the creepy atmosphere, but it has too many glaring plot holes.
Longlegs started the murder-suicide killings in the mid 1960s, not visiting the Harkers until the 1970s. He had no accomplice that we know of, which implies he did go in the houses, even though the movie explicitly states that he didn't.
It took the FBI 30 goddamn years to find one of the dolls that looks exactly like the murdered child? Based on the scene of her mom leaving one of the houses, she doesn't take the dolls with her. So... you know, a whole fuck ton of fingerprints.
Speaking of FBI incompetence, did they seriously not figure out that there was someone else present in the house? Our forensics were pretty good by then, there's no reason they shouldn't have been able to tell in decades of killings that someone showed up at the house.
This movie feels like they had an idea, but either didn't really think it through all the way, or they had to make the FBI incompetent to make it work.

Very over the top acting, it had been done before and much better. And the plot twist had me a little confused. Although I was very intrigued at the start, I ultimately found the whole film predictable and disappointing. The acting and editing is phenomenal, but the script is filled with clunky exposition, unrealistic character choices, and very obvious reveals. An anti-climactic climax is the final nail in the coffin. The film boasts an intelligent mystery, and resolves it with a campy predictable outcome that feels like a first pass at the script. I'm glad many people seem to have enjoyed the film, I just was wondering if anyone else felt the same way I did? Or am I completely in the minority here?

I appreciated the correction so much lmao. It’s bugged me my whole life whenever movies do that. I said out loud “Revelation. It’s singular, there’s no S” at the same time as Maika Monroe, and then I realized that she said it too, and I felt so vindicated lol. And I can tell you from experience that her character would know that too since she grew up with a very religious mother.
I agree completely about the ending, could’ve had it go for literally just a minute longer, and it would’ve been absolutely perfect. But as it is, damn if this movie didn’t blow me away. I walked out of the theater in a daze, couldn’t believe what I watched. And then my mind raced back to all the clues I missed over the course of the movie and realized that I could’ve seen a lot of things coming, and so much lined up perfectly. Longlegs deserves a second viewing, and I can’t wait to see it again! Completely loved it. For me, right now it’s a 9.8/10, but a second watch would probably give it that last 0.2

It was very good but unfortunately did over explain at the end. If you’re gonna over explain the mother’s connection you need to explain why he ended up living in the mother’s house and also, some backstory to Cobble? Like, maybe how he became what he is? Was he part of a cult? The ciphers are kind of blown over, it would’ve been neat to see some connection to perhaps ancient Sumerian texts or something, some deeper drive to Cobble’s mission than simply ‘Hail Satan.’ I would find it interesting if perhaps Cobble as a boy had an encounter with someone doing what he now does & it gets passed on like a demonic virus/contract required to not be killed by the predator. I dunno, a lot explained yet not explained leaving an unfinished feeling. Perhaps a prequel for Cobble? Interesting name too. Cobblepot/The Penguin. Cage’s character had Joker & Penguin all over it. I was waiting for Batman to show up during the interrogation. Didn’t understand the clothes at all. Weird pinkish white, multiple button up shirts, the powdered face. Came off less Marc Bolan glam & more Liberace. He had guitars (a Flying V), awesome. But why? Was in he in a band at some point? Did Satan promise him fame & fortune for doing his ‘dirty work’? What was the metal ball? What material? How does it channel the voice of the devil? So much left to imagine which is annoying as what’s left to imagine about Cobble is juxtaposed against what is explained which is that the mother is arguably more of a player here in the murders. She actually enters the home. She is an accomplice!! In classic Manson fashion, Cobble never actually kills anyone. Anyway, so many holes, so many questions, so many missed opportunities. This film needed another hour to artfully fill in some blanks and it would’ve been a masterpiece. I give it a solid B+ or three stars. Also, not really scary but definitely ambient, eerie & at times, although brief, creepy.

-SPOILERS DONT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN-
In reference to his face looking all fucked, I think what they were going for is either 1. dealing with the devil or black magic in general takes a tole on a human, 2. since he was putting part of his own essence into each of those dark orbs for the dolls, probably as a piece of his soul gets cut off every time it changes his physical appearance. But I also agree that the prosthetics looked fake (my only gripe about the movie) with the exception being that creepy scene where they're watching his jail footage and the footage is all grainy, the prosthetics looked fantastic there.

I watched Longlegs second time today and it might be the best looking horror/thriller I've seen in months. I couldn't take my eyes off of it. And Nicolas Cage is batshit crazy in this one.

It's not the director is a talented artist forced to make a movie that will appeal to the masses but he still try's to hold on to some integrity.
It was a nice blend imo

@@EddieSmith917 im glad u can enjoy it, but i wont understand how. Everyone speaks in code. The flashes of "disturbing imagery" that disrupts whatever tension he was trying to build, the acting that was stiff and unrelatable, the annoying ostentatious cinematography. I always liked my fair share of horrors that dont appeal to the masses, Babadook, Skinamarink, Possum. This was just something else and Im so disappointed Im saying this.

It was a smart move to leave Nic Cage out of the advertising. His character is like a cross between Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs, the Zodiac Killer, and a crazy religious Aunt or Granny like figure. It's quite amazing!
Favorite horror movie of the year so far has to be Late Night With The Devil

(Str8 up, person behind me said “oh he’s about to “Cage” out! He’s about to freak! Love this!)
Person was dead silent if not on the verge of tears rest of film-this isn’t a joke
    (I’ll say this)
    “Slow burn”???
…yeah, I can see it. But this was the FASTEST “slow burn” EVER FILMED!
Hate to use the “Trust me bro” source but ummm
See the movie; don’t think trusting me on this is too far a stretch-It HAS to be the FASTEST “slow burn” of all time
    (Incredible film; GO SEE-truly!
Even if you don’t like it as much as us; there is just NO WASTE seeing this; there really isn’t
