Hey! So I’m reading the comments....and ummm yea I won’t be doing it on wet hair. I’m not losing my hair for anything or anyone! LOL I will be purchasing satin rollers! Thank you for the help and tips y’all!🤗
I mainly use sponge rollers more than any other rollers. I only use them on wet hair but the secret is that your ends have to be neat and trimmed first, detangle it good, and also you have to take your time when rolling the hair. I don't lose a lot of hair.
I’m totally agree back in the day my hair grew like crazy with blue magic vo5 shampoo and conditioner all this new hair products is getting out of hands with prices tooooo expensive Genese Knox
Omg this is so cute. My grandma still use those sponge rollers. She's been natural her whole life. Her hair is always pretty. They just remind me of Sunday morning and picture day. My bang was so tight!
Hahahhaahaha YAAAAASSSS!!!!!! My mom used to use the pink ones in her hair! I'm happy I came across this video because I'm considering to roll my hair, but was on the fence on OG sponge rollers vs the rods!!!! I watched her other ones with the rods & let's just say the RODS for the win. I shall order STAT!!!!
I’m DEFINITELY about that sponge roller Life. From back when I was a press and curl natural to now when I want that “roller wrap” look when my hair is blown out! But I’m country so .. 😅😂
Ok..so I must be the oldest one watching this. If u had a bang back in the day..you had the tightest band w/that side ponytail..and layered wit them rollers....shiiiiiiid! Don’t forget them baby hairs!🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾anyone else my age!😂
My sponge rollers have satin on them. I'm 51 and have used spinge rollers since i was a young girl. Lol...ive never used them on wet hair...curls would be tooooo tight. Bit your set came out lovely!!!
I still use sponge rollers (pink ones) but to avoid the hair getting caught I use end papers. Super old school.. haha. I just love the curl Afro look once I take them out. Sam's beauty has the black ones w/ satin covering the sponge.
For people who prefer not to use heat: You should stretch your hair first with a twist or braid out or bantu knots, and then do the roller set using the ponytail method for optimal stretch especially for at the roots.😊
My mom used them and I use them also for certain styles. The foam rollers will give a quick curl if you roll first and take steamy shower after. I also use the hard rollers with the cover that snaps over the roller. I have used magetic rollers. With a wet set. My favorite one is the mesh rollers without the brush inside with end papers to smooth the ends and plastic pins.
Beautiful, beautiful results - yeah for the sponge!! I use the big pink ones for body when I straighten my hair. And, yes, as a child my mom put these in hair for church, special events, weddings, etc 👧🏾☺️ I love your videos!!
Yes hunni, my mom & grandmother used these FAITHFULLY!!! I personally prefer sponge rollers-they come in jumbo or extra large and I reuse mine aaaallllll the time. This turned out so freakin cute 😍
Just finished watching your video and love your hair; yes, I still have my sponge rollers but I need to use the end wrap papers because they do help with keeping my hair from getting pulled out from the sponge rollers; you inspired me to dig mine out and start using them again. Thanks for the great video; I've subscribed!
You took it waaaaay back with the sponge rollers and SLAAAAYED!!!! Your hair turned out so pretty! Yes girl.... My mom waa faithful with sponge rollers when I was a little girl.
Try roller foam wraps on the foam roller next time. That's how my mom use 2 do. Mousse the hair r put setting lotion on it, then sandwich the hair wit wrap paper then roll it wit foam roller. it wrks Everytime
Love the video! You can purchase the sponge curlers that are covered with satin to prevent hair getting caught in the sponge. My mother uses them. I must try this method on her hair! Thanks.
I love sponge rollers they are so much easier to sleep in than flexi or perm rods. Try the satin wrapped sponge rollers instead of getting end papers. They will help with the hair snagging issue and its much less work. Your results were beautiful.
I used to use those roller in 70s to the 90s worked with my hair when I add perms. Your hair came out nice. Makes me want to give them another try on my natural curly hair 👍👍
I have tried this and I was pleased. My curls are aren't as bouncy as yours and my hair is much shorter. It's easier for me to roll my hair with sponge rollers than perm rods and way more comfortable to sleep in than perm rods. One lsst thing, I used sponge rollers with a satin wrap, wrapped on the roller, so no hair got caught in the roller. Thank you Janae, your videos are REALLY helpful.
Love foam rollers!!!!! It's more defined. Ol skool is best ! Yes add wrap papers or get them satin lined. However hair sheds..... so is it really the roller pulling ?????
Sponge rollers are damaging if you roll too tight . I did that as a teenager when my mom was sending me to the hair dresser for a press and curl. She warned me to stop rolling my hair too tight but NOOOO I wanted that curly flip and now my edges are snatched and I haven't found them yet and I'm 52.😔 So please do not roll too tight and wrap with paper or get the ones with satin covers. The results are really cute though.
Beautiful results. I would suggest using end papers or satin rollers to prevent snagging. I wish mine would look like this. You have given me inspiration to try it again.
From my experience we never used sponge rollers on wet hair. They were used to preserve already curled hair from getting flat while sleeping. Also Walmart sells satin wrapped sponge rollers
I still have sponge rollers but wanna try your perm rods set and style and going to Sally's to look for the Mielle products you mentioned in one of your wash n go videos! Thank you for sharing your gifts❤!!!
The sponge rollers are the absolute best, easy to put in your hair and to sleep in. i say yes to old school and no to flexi rods 😂😂😂 them things are the devil
I don't know what I am doing wrong but flexi rods is not my friend. They are loose, fall out and I guess I don't twist them closed correctly. It is kind of funny, in a frustrating way. LOL Waste of money for me. I am going back to old school sating covered sponge rollers.
I just bought a 30 piece evolve pack for under 7.00 off Amazon. Only catch is that they're an add on item so your order has to be over $25.00. That's easy to do on Amazon tho lol
That turned out beautiful, I love it I'm young but I definitely know about the foam rollers used them a lot to curl my hair when I was younger and I even used the pillow soft rollers too. I think I'll be adding them back to my curly hair products
Im so happy you tried these out. I just repurchased some yesterday..these are my go to when i want to achieve a curly fro. Your hair came out beautifully as always.
I mean let people live and learn. Not everyone knew, some people do but never tried and others just want to see the outcome in order to make the decision to buy some or not. You sound real condescending.
Hey BriBri ,since when does wisdom and knowledge and experience become condescending? ???...when you Think you know...but ya don't. ..chile bye-bye now
Yes for the ole school rollers for real! I'm so jealous tho... You ALWAYS make your curls look effortless. I'm going to have to try these for sure. My mom would use when I was a little girl. So gorgeous on you!!
Sponge rollers always snag no matter what. They always have dents, there is nothing you can do. Those are just old school of how we use to roll our hair back in the day. End papers are the way to go if you don't want to snag. You look beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
I love the way your hair turned out! I don't think sponge roller are for wet hair. Also you were saying that they don't last...well to be honest they will still curl your hair if they are a little smashed. We never cleaned them we used them till they fell apart or were too greasy and replaced them. They are cheap (well they were back then) but that's a good idea I bet you can wash them with soap and warm water so they last longer.
Those foam rollers took me way back! I might have to revisit them, but I'll check out the satin ones because that foam material will snag and dry your hair out.
I used to sleep in sponge rollers almost every night when I had a relaxer. My mom hated straight hair, it always had to have some sort of curl to it. I stopped using them when my cousin told me that the roller acts like a sponge and sucks moisture from your hair (I never fact checked her on that). I did still use them on occasion before I went natural, but I haven't used them since.
I have used foam rollers. For a quick curl they're the best. And comfortable to sleep in. To stop hair from sticking to the roller, use setting paper on the roller.
I used to use these in high school All. The. Time. Once or twice a week I would use them for a wet set and the would maintain with dry rolling the other nights. Of course my hair is just a bit different from yours. But I loved seeing how it came out. It looked so nice!!
I've ALWAYS used sponge rollers but get the silk wrap, they're a lot more comfortable 2 sleep in then perm rods, plus they're black and not as noticeable if u have 2 step out w a scarf...luv um!
I just pulled mine out the closet and found your tutorial, your hair turned out really gorgeous love the color as well. Know this video is old, but it's still relevant, hope all is well.
I was all about that sponge roller life. Back when I was a kid AND back in the late 90s early 2000s. It made my relaxed hair look super cute and curly back then.
I am and they work well....I just have to use the endpaper, otherwise, my hair will be frizzy and it pulls the hair - which will be stuck in the rollers...just like you experienced.
I love the results!!! For me if it isn't the pink ones that pop apart on the wrong side half a dozen times while rolling it just doesn't come out how I like it.
Cute! I would have never thought to use sponge rollers (even though I grew up using them). I think I will try this with end papers or the satin ones for damage control and I don't think it's a good idea to use on wet hair. I'm loving your videos!
Because of my hair type(4c) it snags quite a bit on wet hair, but end papers/paper towels really helped! My rollers smushed up real bad like yours since I pulled it tight; still not sure how to fix that though! Your hair came out super cute!
Please do not use the rollers on wet hair. Sponge rollers have been around for many years. My mom told me to never use them on wet hair. She always dried hair first and then used rollers. Also sponge rollers can be damaging to hair which is why I used to wrap paper around the rollers. Just be careful. They will dry your hair out. You can try the satin rollers and get the same look as well with less damage.
My mom used to use those in my hair. She used to use toilet paper as a barrier between the dry foam and my actual hair. The rollers do work well though.
So i used to role my grandmothers hair all the time. She always had me wrap the roller in like a wrap paper or some tissue just because the sponge can take a bit of your hair out. But i loved how your hair turned out. They color looks so amazing on you 😍
I used to use them a while back to curl my hair. They worked fairly well for me. I love curly hair and I have a hard time styling my hair so I tried them to curl my hair and I really liked how they looked. I currently used Conair Hot Sticks to curl my hair. I love them!!💖💕 They work soo much better and they are soo easy. I just like not having to sleep with curlers in my hair.
Hello when using those sponges rollers try using end paper so that your ends will not get caught on the sponge rollers . I Love that look curls for days If the hair is longer they have larger sponge rollers. The rollers come in several sizes.
Glad to know these work. My grandmother rolled her hair every night to comb it out🙄 lol rip grandma...Cant wait to try this. I love the size and neatness❤❤😍
Hey! So I’m reading the comments....and ummm yea I won’t be doing it on wet hair. I’m not losing my hair for anything or anyone! LOL I will be purchasing satin rollers! Thank you for the help and tips y’all!🤗
Janae Mason u have to use wrapping paper with sponge rollers to not loss hair. But they have sponge rollers with satin wrap attached
cheryl the great thank you!! 🤗
I mainly use sponge rollers more than any other rollers. I only use them on wet hair but the secret is that your ends have to be neat and trimmed first, detangle it good, and also you have to take your time when rolling the hair. I don't lose a lot of hair.
I bought sponge rollers covered with satin and they did not pull my hair out.
Janae Mason 😢 I wanted to see it on wet
I recently went “back to my roots” with all my hair care products and tools. Best decision ever.

Me too. My hair is looking good too.
Nothing beats old school and natural.
I do a 2 strand twist and sponge rollers and LOVE the results. They are more comfortable than perm or flexi rods to sleep in.
me toooo
Thanks for this tip!❤
Omg this is so cute. My grandma still use those sponge rollers. She's been natural her whole life. Her hair is always pretty. They just remind me of Sunday morning and picture day. My bang was so tight!
Use end papers like we did back in the day to keep the frizz and snags away.
BTW, you look lovely with that final results of that style.😍
Those are them Easter Sunday rollers hunty...flashbacks like a mug 😂😂😂😂
Lucretia Railey lol yes!!!! That tight curl for that bang on your forehead that lasted for like 2 weeks 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This comment 😫😂

Hahahhaahaha YAAAAASSSS!!!!!!
My mom used to use the pink ones in her hair! I'm happy I came across this video because I'm considering to roll my hair, but was on the fence on OG sponge rollers vs the rods!!!! I watched her other ones with the rods & let's just say the RODS for the win. I shall order STAT!!!!
For real 😆😆!! Like a mug 🤣🤣🤣.. Are you from the Midwest?

I love how it came out - awesome job! The ladies of my family used those and would cover the sponge with wax paper to reduce the snagging situation!
I still use sponge rollers (pink ones) but to avoid the hair getting caught I use end papers. Super old school.. haha. I just love the curl Afro look once I take them out. Sam's beauty has the black ones w/ satin covering the sponge.

Yup, with a foam mousse.. then wrap all your hair after taking the rollers out (for straight hair) 😊
Wow! Wasn't expecting this turn out! This is gorgeous!
My mom used them and I use them also for certain styles. The foam rollers will give a quick curl if you roll first and take steamy shower after. I also use the hard rollers with the cover that snaps over the roller.

Don't roll without end papers. ..that foam Will SNATCH THEM ENDS....BYE -BYE ENDS...BYE-BYE LENGTH....

Sori Yazz I think it's shredded hair doll. I love them!!!
MISS Morgan how do u get them satin lined?
Ronda S, you can get them from Amazon!
Sponge rollers are damaging if you roll too tight . I did that as a teenager when my mom was sending me to the hair dresser for a press and curl. You can continue to use it even though there smooshed
Beautiful results. I would suggest using end papers or satin rollers to prevent snagging. I wish mine would look like this. You have given me inspiration to try it again.
Yes I LOVE satin rollers and they're easy to sleep in.. I really like this set! I'm going to try this curl pattern!
From my experience we never used sponge rollers on wet hair. They were used to preserve already curled hair from getting flat while sleeping. Also Walmart sells satin wrapped sponge rollers
Beautiful!!! I love it. Also they make them covered in satin to reduce snagging.
I use end papers and sponge rollers with thick sections. I have my hair shaped into medium shag. When I take them out ..it's bootiful!
I still have sponge rollers but wanna try your perm rods set and style and going to Sally's to look for the Mielle products you mentioned in one of your wash n go videos! Thank you for sharing your gifts❤!!!
You literally do no wrong ! I think u achieve the perfect curl using anything .
The sponge rollers are the absolute best, easy to put in your hair and to sleep in. i say yes to old school and no to flexi rods 😂😂😂 them things are the devil

Evolve satin covered rollers on amazon for $7.84 for 18 pieces.

Yes i saw that too. Easy to do...lol
I've been using foam rollers since I was a teenager. I love them!
Today is June 9th, 2023. I have sponge rollers with satin on it. Your hair turned out beautiful ❤.
Y'all are so young. You are cracking me up. Like you discovered something new. I've used these for years and love them. On dry hair with end papers.
I mean let people live and learn. Not everyone knew, some people do but never tried and others just want to see the outcome in order to make the decision to buy some or not. You sound real condescending.
Hey BriBri ,since when does wisdom and knowledge and experience become condescending? ???...when you Think you know...but ya don't. ..chile bye-bye now
I’m older than Janae but I’ve never seen them used on natural hair only relaxed hair.
Diane Matlock stfu honestly. She was being condescending. How she worded it was, and I can have an opinion. I wasn't even talking to you so "bye"?
Yes for the ole school rollers for real! I'm so jealous tho... You ALWAYS make your curls look effortless. I'm going to have to try these for sure. My mom would use when I was a little girl. So gorgeous on you!!
Sponge rollers always snag no matter what. They always have dents, there is nothing you can do. Those are just old school of how we use to roll our hair back in the day. End papers are the way to go if you don't want to snag. You look beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

They are cheap (well they were back then) but that's a good idea I bet you can wash them with soap and warm water so they last longer.
Love the outcome! ...and yes my Mom used these on me as a little girl😊Definitely going to try this! Thanks
I loved the way your hair turned out. I'm a mature woman who grew up with foam rollers and was glad to see them being used again. Congrats, dear.
Loved this, I have fine hair and actually sponge rollers give me a good curl, I was excited when I saw this.. soo pretty
The southern church girl curlers 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I would one for the bang 3 in a ponytail lol I came a long way. I love your hair but I am scared to try it.
Let me find out I gotta break out my mamas granny rollers!?! My mom used end papers as well. But this is poppin!
Irene Ella , the girl the best curls from using pieces of a brown paper bag. Strip them the length of flex rods, you want be disappointed!
Andrea Swan , get you some dollar tree lunch sacks. ..since you can't get em at the store any more....no end papers needed.....
I have my faithful old pink sponge rollers very pretty love the color
Those foam rollers took me way back! I might have to revisit them, but I'll check out the satin ones because that foam material will snag and dry your hair out.
You can use the foam ones but use the end papers. They keep your hair from drying out on the ends.
Stefanie Brown Yes, I still have a big box of end papers I used for mesh roller sets.
People are saying you can get satin ones online
I have used foam rollers. For a quick curl they're the best. And comfortable to sleep in. To stop hair from sticking to the roller, use setting paper on the roller.
dang, I should've never shunned my sponge rollers, now I gotta go get more lol
I have the sponge rollers that have a satin piece on top, got them from Walmart
I used to use these in high school All. The. Time. Once or twice a week I would use them for a wet set and the would maintain with dry rolling the other nights. Of course my hair is just a bit different from yours. But I loved seeing how it came out. It looked so nice!!
I've ALWAYS used sponge rollers but get the silk wrap, they're a lot more comfortable 2 sleep in then perm rods, plus they're black and not as noticeable if u have 2 step out w a scarf...luv um!
I love those rollers but it’s be a while sense I used them! That hairstyle is amazing
Beautiful curls and transformation! I must try your method!
I just pulled mine out the closet and found your tutorial, your hair turned out really gorgeous love the color as well. Know this video is old, but it's still relevant, hope all is well.
I use the big pink ones and its my go too hairstyle! I leave my rollers in for a day or two.
I was all about that sponge roller life. Back when I was a kid AND back in the late 90s early 2000s. It made my relaxed hair look super cute and curly back then.
Try satin lined sponge rollers @janaemason love the results

Alexandra Joseph ,hope you went to dolla tree....
This is really cute on you. They have the sponge rollers wrapped with satin material at Wal-Mart and I found some in Ross also.
I section my head in 6, braid each section a quarter of the way down, then I roll each strand with the rollers. They come out great each time!!! 😍😍😍
Her personality is everything.... I love this girl. I did this sponge rollers and my hair never looked this good lol
I love your videos. No matter what hairstyles you try, your results are always on point!
Coming back to this tutorial in 2020 because it’s Quarantine time and I need some idea 😂😂❤️ Hey pretty!! 😘
Same!
Same here girl 🙋🏾♀️
Me too
Because of my hair type(4c) it snags quite a bit on wet hair, but end papers/paper towels really helped!
Nikita Scott yes they can dry out. I alternate use of them with other methods. I only use on dry hair with product. Not freshly washed hair.
Nikita Scott okay I won’t. I don’t have time to lose my hair lol!!!
Janae Mason No, because you and your hair are beautiful!
They sell the ones with satin on them
Esiri Eya'ufe ,you get a tighter curl....without snatched ends.
My mom used to use those in my hair. She used to use toilet paper as a barrier between the dry foam and my actual hair. The rollers do work well though.
Cute result. Ive been using sponge rollers since the 80's.
There are satin-lined sponge rollers. I love them!
It came out good! You may want to use satin sponge rollers or just line yours with satin to help with snagging
gotta get those lil white rolling papers for the rollers.
I love them!!💖💕
They work soo much better and they are soo easy. I just like not having to sleep with curlers in my hair.
That’s fantastic!🎉 It looks great! Old school rollers for the 🏆!!
