    I was tattooing with a cheap Ebay coil machine and mid tattoo the machine just stoped working I loved the cables around tell i finished the tattoo since that's what caused it not to run so i ended up cutting the part of the wire that shorted put and connected the good parts together and it still runs till this day lol

    I started with coils then tried a few rotaries (the bishop v6 and hummingbird v2) couldn't get on with them, went back to coils and really learnt how to strip them down and tune them to how I like them and I've never been happier

      As a learner.. of course using coil machine but in case of soft shading when I use low voltage the needle do not hit the skin. And the high volt hits harder. What to do! Can you give me any idea?!

    Would you also recommend getting a higher end machine for only practicing on fake skin/fruit? I'm not looking to tattoo on people for another few years, but I do want to get a feel for using tattoo machines.

    • @grimsdarkheart
      @grimsdarkheart 3 роки тому +27

      If I may.. I would always recommend getting the machine you plan on using in the long run to practice with. Think of it like cars. Tattoo machines vary from brand to brand and style to style, so practice with what you plan on using will only help you out. No new learning curve with a "new machine" that feels different to start with. Hope that helps.

      I personally own 26 machines now....I have machines for certain styles....each motor runs different and it's always nice to have several machines so you always have a back up no matter what.also need to look at is it easy to break down and autoclave able?cause some lower budget machines aren't autoclavable or autoclave friendly....he explains it pretty well in this video.onky I like using eccentric wheel machines for my color blending or grey wash work....then direct drive with 4mm stroke or better for my thick bold lines and color packing and black packing.that being said I have switched it up and used eccentric wheel machines with 3.5mm stroke for lining shading and color packing but they are all smaller tattoos.same with direct drive machines.done it all but smaller tattoos..this video is absolutely wonderful for explaining things.i was only a couple months out of my apprenticeship and Ive learned alot just by watching this guy.he definitely knows what he's talking about.

    One of the most informative vids I've seen. Axis Valhalla, I'll keep that in mind. Maybe a new vid could help us with 2 things: explanation of importance of torque in the rotary we choose and maybe an explanation of which machines have a built in 'give' or 'bog' to simulate coils... like I've heard some Bishops do. Lastly, for the nerds, Oliver Ayre went into explaining brushless or brush motors and the ways they run differently at higher voltages. Would you have any knowledge to share on that to help us out? 💯

    I'm not a tattoo artist but I'm looking for a good friend I plan on "investing" in.
    It seems kind of like coils are just an older style of machine that is slowly fading out? Everything I've seen seems like coils are more touchy, louder, POTENTIALLY more painful on the artist hands, etc.
    I'm not making any assumptions, but I genuinely wanna know, are there any mechanical advantages to a coil machine today? You have to have multiple machines set up for multiple weights right?
    I never saw the pens before, and I'm leaning toward getting him one of those. Seems like they might be the norm in the next 20 years

      It's a matter of taste really. You have to try shit out and see what fits what you do. There's no bs like "this is the future of tattooing". You can even tattoo with a stick as it was done before the damn machines for centuries... Some tattooers even line with a machine and pack color by Tebori(traditional japanese technique), like Horitomo of State of Grace. Anyway, good luck. 😅

      Bronc/Hummingbird and Dragonfly/Mast are both cheap Hong Kong companies that make good entry level machines. That being said, don't buy the ones that cost >$30 because those are general market Chinese ones not designed by them. Also please make sure you learn from proper reputable resources and practice good hygiene. Take a class and get certified in cross contamination and blood born diseases by an organization like Red Cross.

      Seventh Trumpet Tattoos hey tyler. So currently the machines i use are the radical lux with the faulhaber motor. And honestly i love them. There are only about $300. And you can adjust the stoke on the fly. They advertise as being able to adjust the “needle depth” and the “hardness of the hit” but its essentially the same thing on the actuall machine. I still use 2 machines. I generally keep one set for lining/ packing. And one for soft shading. And ive also used the xion. And honestly i dont know if its more of a “stroke” adjustment” or “debt” adjustment. But im pretty sure its advertised as Being able to change the stroke on the fly. Love your videos by the way.
