Any GM vehicle with TPMS, so since around 2005 or so, will need this procedure performed whenever you rotate the tires, or swap a spare tire in, or replace the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver in the dash. It's the only way the onboard computer knows which sensor is actually sitting in which position on the vehicle.
@@DrShock Is it possible that the relearn process to make mistake on the position of tires, e.g. the computer thought the driver rear is driver front and vice versa? When this happen, how do you tell the positioning is wrong? Your video show the start position and end position, how do you know which tire is next? Thanks.
It would be highly unlikely for the body control module to make such a mistake. You follow along with the side that is flashing the turn signal lamp. If you make a mistake you can always start the return process again and redo it

It turned out my sensors were not relearned after a recent tire rotation. You saved me a needless diagnostic fee!!
That would be a strong possibility if the other two are responding ok. Knowing the age of the two unresponding sensors can help confirm the diagnosis (usually the batteries go dead in them after around 8 years on average).
I had the bcm replaced on my 2016 chevy cruze. I tried resetting the tires and all of my sensors work because my car honked at each tire I went through. After I tried resetting all the tires (they all honked and my car honked twice when done) my dash still reads blank under each tire. Any advice?
Initial reaction is the BCM was not properly programmed using GMs SPS2 with the latest 2016 Cruze calibrations by VIN number and/or the correct tire type/size was not selected during the programming.

Like you see in the video at 2:00 the green light will _flicker_ rapidly during transmitting the TPMS position relearn code to the vehicle. If you're having problems getting a single tire to register (but the rest are ok), it's usually because the TPMS sensor battery is dead and the sensor has to be replaced. Its a professional mechanics tool. GM developed it because it cuts the dealership service procedure down to 1/5 - 1/4 the time of air pressure sensor triggering. Time is money.
It did for 2017 and 2018. I am not aware of any reason why it would not work for a 2019 but you can check with the seller of the tool to confirm before you purchase in case there's something unique about your vehicle.

I agree, what a joke. It's a money maker for the automotive industry forcing the average consumer to visit their dealership or mechanic for wheel service. ANd while you are they try and upsell, new brakes, shocks, tires or other services. With all of the computer technology out there i'm sure they could have implemented a learning mode using the vehicles onboard computer. It would be similar to the so called "Hand Shake" connecting a laptop to a router. After all most new vehicles today have onboard wifi and navigation.
So, So Simple, gotta give it to GM for Simplicity. 2018 Accord, Car of the Year :| Worst TPMS EVER.....! It gives you a message that You have "LOW Pressure" ALL Trims, EXCEPT the Touring Models, and That one you have to open the Honda App, on your Phone....GMAFB....Good hunting, not kidding, gotta go outside and Physically measure the Pressure on each tire...Laughable!!>>Traded!
This tool doesn't have anything to do with tires. Presuming that your TPMS sensor doesn't have a dead battery, what's more likely is that you do not have genuine GM TPMS sensors, or a compatible aftermarket one, mounted inside the wheel so there's either a radio frequency incompatibility, or the more inexpensive aftermarket ones won't support this feature correctly. Most big brand aftermarket sensors support this GM feature just fine though.
@@DrShock the sensor on my truck are the originals, the only thing I think of is maybe because the valve is right in the center of the rim and the metal block the frequency of the tool
Yeah I've seen this happen on some trucks, interference from the larger metal rims or weak batteries in an older TPMS module. When I've hit that I've had luck moving the tools antenna to right against the lip of the metal rim in line with the valve stem and flat end of the antenna on the tire rubber like I show in 2:29 of the video rather than the usual way I show at 2:01 of the video (side ways antenna which is usually what's recommended). Basically holding the tool as if you're trying to push its antenna nose into the tire right at that point. It's really important the tool has a fresh battery in these situations, for maximum radio transmission power.

The 2019 owners manual will explain to hold down the start button without any foot pedal contact to enter service mode. Use the arrow keys on the steering wheel to get into the TPMS tire view and press the checkmark to start the process on vehicles 2017 thru 2019.

So if I have 2 blank lines for both back tires, do I need new sensors?
That would be a strong possibility if the other two are responding ok. Knowing the age of the two unresponding sensors can help confirm the diagnosis (usually the batteries go dead in them after around 8 years on average).

Most GM vehicles went to requiring this type of tool for TPMS relearns starting in 2011. The air pressure method was 2010 and older only.

This tool doesn't have anything to do with tires. Presuming that your TPMS sensor doesn't have a dead battery, what's more likely is that you do not have genuine GM TPMS sensors, or a compatible aftermarket one, mounted inside the wheel so there's either a radio frequency incompatibility, or the more inexpensive aftermarket ones won't support this feature correctly. I have a 19 Cruze, so this way of getting to service mode doesn't help me at all.
