  • In this video I demonstrate my 1986 Hotpoint "Potwasher" to clean my JCPenney badged P223. I found this dishwasher on the curb a few years ago. I am using it as a parts washer. The only modifications I made were disconnecting the heating element (it heats water during the wash) and removing the stops so the upper rack is removable. As you can see, it is in pretty rough shape. I haven't cleaned it up at all yet. It works very well, but not quite as powerful as the 1984 Whirlpool. This dishwasher has a very unique sound. I am recording a full cycle and will upload that soon. I also plan on making updated videos on the Whirlpool and the GE Filter Flo soon.

I prefer these kinds of old-school appliances over modern ones with electronic controls.

Growing up we had the model above this one, an HDA865, purchased new in 1985. Decent machine, cleaned well if you loaded correctly and used Heavy Wash or Power Scrub. By no means a quiet machine, lol.

Hey! Welcome back. Where have you been? I'd also like to see it do a full load of dishes when you get the water valve filling the dishwasher at full power.

Thank you! I have been busy with work a lot more lately and it’s a lot harder now to film the appliances now that everybody is home all the time.

@@80sappliances What are the cycles and options on this dishwasher? Why doesn't it sound like it's spraying at full pressure. When it is at full pressure, it should run at 3000 rpms (the pump).

@@jeromedavis8575there is a pots and pans selection as well which I believe heats the water using the heating element (similar to a sanitary cycle) however I had it on normal wash and it was still activating the heater so not too sure. If you turn the knob to “on” there’s two pre rinses before it reaches light wash, which is just one long wash cycle followed by two rinses. I haven’t serviced this machine yet so I am not sure what’s wrong if anything. I have the water fill off the drain valve of my water heater right now so it’s possible that’s too restrictive to fill up all the way.

@@80sappliances I love the sound of the dishwasher. I hope you will get it fully serviced so we can see and hear it running with cascade detergent and rinse aid. It would be a treat to hear the washer, dryer, and dishwasher running at once.
