I really love Denon. Being an digital audio designer/engineer I can fully appreciate the the AL24/AL32 technology. It really enhances the sound quality of PCM DSD and CD.
Have one. It's a beast of an amp. Do not underestimate that 70w, it sounds way more powerful and effortless than the specs suggest. It has a very muscular and colored, but fun, sound.
Hi. So you have the Denon PMA 1700NE? Nice. And you're pairing it with the KLH Model 5? Nice. I demoed the Model 5 and I liked it a lot; I also heard the Klipsch Hersey IV and the Forte IV, and the Model 5 was way better (the Hersey sounds like the sound is coming from the floor but the Forte IV was better). But then I heard KLH is supposed to come out with the Model 7, a bigger brother of the Model 5, and so I decided to wait, because I figured, if the M5 beat the Hersey IV, then perhaps the M7 would beat out the Forte IV. Fast forward: then I heard the Sonus Faber Lumina V. Man that is really nice. It gives me a more forward sound and the mid range is beautiful. I haven't gotten it yet because I am debating to go for the Martin Logan 40i or 60xti at their sale price.
Hi JR. Have you heard the Denon PMA1700NE? What is it's sound character? Warm? Bright? Neutral? I like to get the Sonus Faber Lumina 5 speakers or the KLH Model 5. The Lumina's have a slight treble bump but don't come across as bright, albeit just accented a bit. But does the Denon have a lively treble that may be too much paired with a speaker like this? Whereas the Model 5 have an attenuator for treble/mid roll off and 'may' pair better. Thanks
@@crutchfield Hi guys. I am probably going for the Sonus Faber Lumina V; however I see Martin Logan's new Motion models are out and they look great, especially the XTF100, but it's out of reach financially. I do see their previous Motion line (40i and 60xti) are for sale which are some decent speakers too, and are now reasonably priced. I love their tweeters. Their midrange is probably a bit more 'warmer' or vailed than the Sonus Faber Lumina which is more like a 'horn' character.
Thinking of upgrading to this from the Denon PMA720ae, which has served me well for 11 years. Just have a feeling the amp's starting to get tired (the sound is now off centre and therefore I can't use the source direct button amongst other things). Is it a worthy and noticeable upgrade would you think ? (Using Monitor Audio Bronze BX6 2010-2015)
Hello, sounds like your current Denon has been an excellent amp for you! This Denon PMA-1700NE will offer comparable power and match your BX6s well. From there, are there any specific features or connections you need in your new replacement?
I wonder if the 900 would be enough at less than half the price and it also has a usb port for hard drives and the 1700 doesn't...but no analog mode on the 900, it's so hard to know when you can't audition them. There's hype about every amplifier these days. Thanks for the video!
The BT for streaming is an unnecessary ommision imo. Also - why not HDMI instead of Toslink for TV, as Marantz does? I am a fan of Denon. This amp would surely work with my AVR (it finally got the main-in back, as pma-1600ne lacked that). But - price wise it is now closer to Marantz 40n, which has a streamer, HDMI, etc. A tough call ...
We expect it will thanks to its amplifier design. To officially check, we need certain specifications on the speaker. The watts RMS recommendation, the ohms of each speaker, and the sensitivity. We were not able to find that information on the internet. Do you have those specifications on the speakers?
That is great news in deed about that handbook in the speakers. Thanks. You will be able to use those speakers with this integrated amp! They are a very good match for each other
It sure does work well with Wharfedale speakers and their Evo 4.4 model! This amp won't make the Evo 4.4 speakers play the loudest they can, but the power is definitely there for the Evo's to produce a very clean sound.
It's a solid match for the bookshelves; but you'd have to use the speaker-level inputs on your sub. If you're prefer an amp with a dedicated pre out, we'll be glad to recommend another option. Are there any other specific features or connections you need?
How do you select between speakers a and speakers b? I don’t see a switch on the amp or a button on the remote. If you hook two pair up are they always on?
Hi! Thank you for the review. I have the preamp/power amp combo Pioneer c73/m73 from the Urushi series in the 90s. I was wondering if the a110 or the 2500ne will drive and sound better with my Focal Aria 948 and one svs sb-1000 pro sub. Moderate auditions. I also have the Pioneer PD-73 cd player and I’m tempted to change it with the dcd-110, mostly for the sacd. Does the dcs-110 sounds better than the PD-73 when it comes to cds? Or the 2500ne? Or should I stick with what I have a go for hybrid sacds? Thank you!
Sounds like a great setup! On the amp side, what do you feel the current setup is most lacking? While your current CD player is terrific, the Denon Anniversary Edition DCD-A110 SACD/CD player would offer even better detail, dynamic range, and a wider sound stage using standard audio CDs.
@@crutchfield Hi! Thank you so much for your answer. It really helps.
