I never ever say a product I review is the “best of the best”. In fact, I often say that the best doesn’t exist. It doesn’t. No such thing. I also said these did not beat my reference for my ears. So no, no such thing as “the best” in audio. Just differences. I review only what I like, and do not review what I dislike. So all I review will be excellent but all are different. Some have mega features. Some have little. Some have a big full sound. Some have lean detailed sound. Some look amazing, some look plain. Some are priced low, some are high. But no, never once in this video did I ever say these are “the best” or “best of the best”. I said if I had a $2500 budget for an integrated amp I’d buy the A10 :)
@HifiHuff I have the option of purchasing either an Advance Paris a12 paired with either an Eversolo dmp8 or Aurolic vega s1 utilizing the streamers dac or an electrocompaniet eci 6 mkii with streamer. Thank you for your time, very much appreciated. 👍
I have the A10 and I really couldn't be happier. It is a phenomenal amp for the price. Much better than the 7000A it replaced. I agree, the sound is just a tad warm. It can run in biased mode, has bass and treble control, loudness control...you never see that anymore and it's very useful. Plenty of power and a ton of inputs. Not to mention if you like VU meters it is gorgeous when lit up.
After I bought the A12, I decided to also buy its brother, the CD transport X-D500, and I am extremely happy with the combination. Yes, here in Europe they are cheaper, but I think that even in the USA they are worth every last cent. I connected it to the internal DAC of A12 via AES/EBU and the results are excellent.
Though maybe not all the options but if you are not into full tube amps some of the closest amps in this range are the Vincent SV 237 and Unison and Pathos and even two Aegir amps. The Sugden A21 and their dac 4 (which I can not say if it is more analog and real clinking than the Harmony or AAdac or Cyan 2 dacs) are great too.
Great review thanks again. Fess up time, older happy HiFi human here and I’m still running an Advance Acoustic MMA402 hooked up to an NAD C162 preamp. My 🇦🇺 Richter speakers are 5ohm and the soundstage is excellent in my open plan house whether I’m playing vinyl or CDs with the possible exception of some female vocalists that sound a teensy bit ‘muffled’. It also has a warmup protection circuit. Love those blue VU meters✌️
Would you recommend the A12 over the Yamaha R-N2000, I know it's not cut and dry across the board for everyone but both are at the upper end of my budget for an amplifier. My intentions would be mostly for vinyl and use the yamaha to start streaming without buying a dedicated streamer.
I would say that the high bias mode is for the SS power amp section. To run it in class A longer. I’ve never seen any preamp anything that is biased. The bias is always for the power section. ✌️
I think I read in another review that the tubes in the preamp stage are always in class A, and the high bias switch is for the power amp stage. No one has said exactly how much output power is class A, they all say "a few watts". I emailed AP and got no response.
I have A12 for 3 months now. The high-bias is the switch for the solid state amplification only. The tubes are always in A-class. These can even be replaced by any other ECC81 tube, and as an audiophile enthusiast, I even swapped the original tubes with some General Electric ECC81 “old-new stock” tubes. Just for fun. I lost warranty but gained even sweater mid-range and deeper sound-stage in my room. And yes, this integrated amp is phenomenal. I am pushing it very hard in my 70m2 (700 sq ft) room, all in high-bias. For what I hear, up to 25W of pure A-class is more than enough to rock the party. The difference to AB mode or non high-bias is more than noticeable in my system (Eversolo DMP - A8, Tidal, Q Acoustics Concept 500) Cheers from Switzerland.

@@joeythedime1838 I haven't actually done it, but I opened my A12 up to see what's involved. It looks like there are 4 screws holding the tube amp PCB down in the chassis, and 4 or 5 cables with connectors that go to the PCB, so it should be pretty easy. You can't get at the tubes from the back side by simply removing the top cover because there's a metal shield that is soldered to the PCB.
I've picked up A12 for 2000 EUR in Germany for an exhibition item. The prices in US are MUCH higher than in EU for these. Maybe even worth importing from EU :)
Thank you for the review! In France, Advance Paris has an old bad reputation, not really justified, about the reliability of their products. I can have there the A12 for 2100€. May be i will get a Christmas present in advance..?^^
They might have deserved the reputation because that's the old Advance Acoustics or whatever the old name was. So it seems like at some point they made changes that also called for a rebrand. I have my A12 for what feels like a couple of years now and no problems whatsoever.
That’s interesting. Would love to hear about long term reliability from others that have their amps. They look beautiful. My concern beyond long term reliability is changing the tubes. I saw a review that made it look like they were very difficult to replace. They will need to be replaced so if it’s not easy, forget it.
My new A12 just arrived today but I haven't hooked it up yet, because I'm a bit concerned with what I consider to be a sloppy fit of the case and front panel-which is also noticeable on yours. Thanks for the review! I've been trying to find out about the bass management. I went through the manual and I emailed Advance Paris but got no response. There are two, three position bass management switches and two subwoofer outputs. Do the switches and outputs correspond to the speaker A and B selections? When you put the switch in either the 75 or 150 Hz position, is a high pass applied to the signal going through the A12 power amp, or is it only low pass filter to the subwoofer output? What is the slope of the roll-off?
The bass switches have just two positions. Either 75 or 150 Hz. Not sure what value there is in running a LPF at those relatively high frequencies. Most active subs have selectable LPF that you'll probably set close to the lower 3dB frequency of your speakers. If you run a nonactive sub, 75 and 150 Hz are likely too high because almost any speaker produces pretty strong output down to 75 Hz. You'll then have both the sub and the speakers reproducing a fairly wide band between 75 and maybe the typical 40Hz or so for bookshelf speakers. That could lead to some muddy bass. There is no high-pass filter applied to the a12's amp.

Based on what and the 😂!? Your comment is useless in this case.
@@trucchuong1726 I build tube amps;) kid
@@anonymousmc7727 build your own tube amps. for around 500. They must sound like crap.
These are not considered true high end audio nor ultimate performance products. They are like taking a Cadillac to race a Ferrari at Le Mans. Try a Krell or Pass Labs against either in every aspect…
The useless and gaudy VU meters are a deal breaker. Otherwise I'd consider them
@@hakonberg8003 yea the vu meters look tacky but apparently they are fully dimmable
Your pronunciation of plethora is incorrect.
Pronunciations are important when you're trying to convince people you know what you're talking about.
Just a friendly reminder.
Don't be a tool.
Another bought for review.
@@c34webb sorry, I do not get paid a cent to do ANY review. Never have, never will. So you are 100% wrong. The only way I make money is from UA-cam ads, which means I make no money. Sorry but take your hate, negativity and misinformation elsewhere. Not welcome here.
Very nice but a little bit over my price point

@HifiHuff I have the option of purchasing either an Advance Paris a12 paired with either an Eversolo dmp8 or Aurolic vega s1 utilizing the streamers dac or an electrocompaniet eci 6 mkii with its internal dac streamer. Speakers are Diptyque 107’s and am unsure which option with your ears would be best to go down. Any help would be much appreciated as you can understand it would be a fairly sizeable investment. Thank you for your time, very much appreciated. 👍
