This video is right up my alley. If you watch any of my videos you’ll see most of my fish are caught using an indicator! When I get to a run I’ll evaluate whether to tight line it or drift an indicator! Both have there advantages in different situations! I tend to lean more to an indicator in deep long runs , and is especially effective in getting your drift out a little further! Airlocks are great but do splash, I would recommend oros in clear low water , which are lighter and do not spook fish as much! Enjoy your videos! Tight lines
Appreciate that, and thanks for watching. I have seen your stuff up there in the NE, I will have to hone in on how you utilize the Indy and see anything different from me. I totally agree though how it unlocks longer drifts and is preferred in longer slow/deep pools. Love the ability to switch right back when the water calls for high sticking. Tight lines up there buddy and happy new year!
Nice job explaining the difference between suspension and contact nymphing, I appreciate the shoutout too. Winter is definitely the best time to be out on the water!
Thanks Justin! I appreciate you watching and no prob for the shout out. Tight lines in 2024 my friend and I look forward to the great things ahead for you!
You showed me how to combine the indicator with the tightline rig on a guide trip. Definitely a good technique in slower water and deeper water. I also like using a yarn indicator when fishing small midges and emergers.
That's right Brian! It is not my go to technique, but as you know can be situationally dependent and in some cases better than other techniques. I tried the yarn, but must not have done it right, wasn't for me. Thanks for watching and the support. Tight lines and happy holidays!
Thx for the video. An indicator definitely helps in the winter on a Euro / tightline rig. I find u can let the drift last longer in that slower deeper water.
Nailed it! I think thats the perfect situation to use them. I would say about 10% of the time I use them now. Happy to finally have gotten over thinking it wasn't needed. Tight lines and thanks for the support!
Hey Mike thanks for the video. Excellent points made about the use of the indicator. When I approach a piece of water and it tells me indicator is the way to go I don’t hesitate and your video showed some nice results. Tightlines my friend.
Thanks for sharing Dale! I have seen you fish and I know you are quite capable without it. However, it is good to know another great angler like you switches it up from time to time as well. Tight lines in 2024 and I hope to see you out there again!
Thanks! He made the day, minus the stress of those alligator rolls. That always stresses me out, but no good fish comes in easy, usually. Tight lines and happy holidays!
You got that right! I was so Anti Indy for the longest time, and that was arrogant and foolish. I am glad I gave in and found the benefits. Hopefully some others give it a whirl too. Happy holidays Craig!
Hey Mike, I am rooting for you today. Luckily we got some rain to hopefully prime, not blow out, the creeks, and the wind stays low. Tight lines up there with Dom and I can't wait to be out there with you guys in March!
Appreciate it! Thanks Eric. I sincerely hope all is going well for you and the guide business keeps growing in 2024! I have faith in you and what you are doing. Happy holidays my friend!
Hey Josh, Thanks for watching and commenting. The Gunpowder is still a bit low near the dam. However, lower in the system should be up quite a bit bc of all the rain. I suspect they start releasing more soon. We should have good winter fishing with more rain/snow in any level of consistency. Good luck out there and tell my "co-workers" (the fish) I said hello :) Happy holidays!
I appreciate that. Thanks for watching my stuff, as I enjoy living vicariously through you and all the cool places you visit on your videos, when I can't get out. Tight lines and I look forward to many fun times with you this year on and off the water!
Hey Josh, Thanks for watching my friend. You put plenty in the net yourself. When dry dropper isn't cutting it, or I just need something a bit different that Indy has given me some extra fish to the basket in certain types of water. Tight lines and happy holidays!
It took me far too long to give in, and that was a mistake. I definitely find myself using them more, as water types call for it. Anything to put fish in the basket. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Happy holidays!
Very instructive video. Thanks. Now that winter is melting into spring, have you been using the indicator? If so, do you have any thoughts on using it in warmer weather? Will you continue to use it into the summer?
Hey Alex! I have used it a little bit recently. I believe situationally speaking, you can use them all year for sure. I think in the height of spring and summer its less necessary. However, always a time and place.
I am not wearing insulated, just my regular breathable. I make sure to layer up underneath. Typically I have on Wool Blend thermals top and bottom, short and long sleeve pants, hoody, and winter coat. My problem area is the feet. I haven't quite gotten down a perfect solution for that. However, my body temp is usually good out there.
Hey Arthur, I typically use their smallest or medium version. I prefer as limited as a "splat" as possible. I have bought their combo packs of all sizes as well, and that suits me if needed. However, if I only picked one size, it would be small. Tight lines and happy holidays!
Sadly mine too lol. It definitely does help in that dept to have a clear way of telling if you get a take or not. Tight lines Denny and happy holidays!

Great video Mike. I am fishing with Dom tomorrow up in State College and looking forward to my trip with you in ‘24.

@@tightliningmd It was a great day, Snowing, caught a bunch of nice wild brown trout and learned a ton.
Always chock full of solid advice. Great video!

Appreciate the watch as always. Don't just find SOME steelies, find ALL the steelies :) Tight lines and happy holidays!
Hey great video, this really helps, and I'm about to hit the gunpowder, so this helps clarify things. Thanks

Lots of great instruction as usual. It's a great reminder to try new approaches. Thanks Mike and see you on the water!
You bet! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, it helps and I appreciated it. Happy holidays Glen and thank you for the lovely card!
Coach pretty work and I always learn something when I'm either with you on the stream or virtually like this. You've broken the code on nymphing!

Good stuff, Mike, see ya up there sometime.
I look forward to it Doug. Maybe this winter over the break if lucky. Tight lines and thanks for watching and commenting!
Enjoyed the video and got to love them wild browns. I will defiantly be putting your tips to use soon.
