- In this first episode of the British TV series THE CHAMPIONS, three special operatives crash their plane in the Himalayas. While unconscious, they are surgically "enhanced" by members of an advanced secret civilization. In this scene, one of the old ones (Felix Aylmer) provides a little explanation to Richard (William Gaunt). Meanwhile, enemy agents have captured Craig (Stuart Damon) and Sharon (Alexandra Bastedo). Several episodes of this entertaining series are included in A&E's Spy Collection DVD set. You can read a review of THE CHAMPIONS at the Classic Film & TV Cafe, www.classicfilmtvcafe.com.
I remember when I was a child, I thought Alexandra Bastedo was the most beautiful woman in the world.
thats because she was!
@@1jimbly1 And I thought Stuart Damon was the most gorgeous man that ever graced this planet.
Even in my mid 60s, seeing those opening titles after so many years, certainly got the juices flowing!!!
@@karenblackadder1183 oooooooo matron
@@karenblackadder1183 I thought the same when I was young....I knew i was GAY then
One of my favorite shows as a youth.
Same here 🙂
me too though I was only 5 and found them quite scary at times
Since Wikipedia says it aired in the US in 1968, I was about 8 when I saw this show.
R.I.P Stuart Damon 1937-2021
Stuart Damon passed June 29, 2021. Alexandra passed January 12, 2014. william still doing well
I loved watching this British series from the very beginning! I remember the Lake Geneva Fountain in the beginning theme and credits! Sad when they cancelled it....great cast and like all young boys in the 1960's who watched this series I also had a crush for Alexandra Bastedo, sadly she has passed away in January 2014 and now Mr. Damon in June 2021! I would hope that it may be brought back as a new series with a new cast with the possibility of Mr. Gaunt making any appearance.
I remember I was sick and didn´t go to school, and was amazed watching an episode of The Champions in black and white.
This, was one of my favorite shows
Felix Aylmer was a close friend to Audrey Hepburn. They had a very good relationship , he was like a second father to her. And he coached her on her acting when she moved to America.
Soooo love this show 💖
my favorite show as a youth
Mine too
i remember mr. felix aylmer from 50s Ivanhoe. God rest and bless.
This is my absolutely all time favourite and still is
I have been looking for this show but forgotten the title. finally! THANKS!

I loved this show ❤
Wednesdays at 8pm in 1968 I watched this without fail. Yes it was far fetched but it was entertaining.
Would love to see a reboot of this one. But not by Hollywood. A British production
This one was a British production.
@@ClassicFilmTVCafe I know but I also know how the American entertainment industry loves robbing other countries ideas
I going to remake it , but having trouble recruiting a beautiful woman......
yes. I don't want superman sized stuff. Just clever ness, subtle abilities, etc. God I loved this show as a kid. so cerebral for the 60s
@@slyph63 You know that Uncle Sam steals anything it gets his hands on.
I always wanted super powers after watching the Champions
Me to.lol.
Would love to see this picked up for a movie... Remember hearing about a possible movie years ago, sure I remember Tom Cruise being touted to star... Loved this series as a kid and was besotted with Alexandra Bastedo...
Think this series was based on Lost Horizon, the original Shangri La.
You would think it would be a good idea for a movie but unfortunately it would turn out like The Avengers movie with Uma Thurman. Ugh. It's best to leave this as a classic.
Completely agree. A re-make could not touch the series. It would be full of gimmicky special effects. The actors had a chemistry that I do not think any current actors could emulate.
Based on the legend of shambhala great show rip alexandra
After showing my Son the opening theme to Starsky & Hutch and how funky it was for an 10 year old I had to transport him to one of my earliest memory of a tv show theme …. “Listen to the swing in that” I said . . . always remembered the big fountain and of course the beautiful lady, but not much else . . Oh yeah they were telepathic . . .I definitely don’t remember the badly painted backdrops. ; )
Missed this series
I wonder if that "Old One" was afraid if anyone else learned of his people they would invade their home and use their technology for sinister purposes... If so, I can't say as I blame him...
Today our hope for the future is technology but this was from a time when the hope for the future was humans themselves.
Gosh that statement nearly made me cry. But yr right.
This episode was on here now it gone 😔
Wow such wonderful memories looking for the dvd box set
This programme should be redone, rebooted, whatever you want to call it...
Muy buena pero quisiera la serie complera desde su inicio gracias

I Want the "Champions" on DVD.
PLA troops used Schmeissers? I didn't know that.
How did Slartybartfast get in on the act?

These wise and ancient beings have always been among us. Hopefully the MedBeds will activate all of our dormant 'Gifts' as well as heal our ailments.
craig fell down.
Obi Wan?? :(
Shades of Obi Wan Kenobi? Hmmmm
I loved the Champions, still do. I made this video taking still shots and including some of their direct quotes and how it all seems to relate to what is going down today. My good friend Suzie age 78 is singing along to the back tracks that we recorded just before Planet Lock Down; ua-cam.com/video/kF52FnKCiaw/v-deo.html
Reboot it,

It’s a shame they weren’t given the gifts and powers to act convincingly - instead of their wooden performances.
So fake on so many levels ...
I can't believe so many of us were sucked in by this crap at the time.
The best part about the show was the theme music - and Alexandra Bastedo was a babe ...
the entire show was very entetaining ..Super awesome action..
