You guys make some really great videos. As someone who went the DIY route, I really enjoy seeing your videos where you cut brand names open to see what materials are inside. It would be really cool to see inside something like an expensive sleep number to see what you actually are getting. I know you guys are in the industry and it would be unprofessional to rip on some of these brands, but damn that would be fun to see. I get a kick out of companies like TemperPedic who have people convinced some memory foam on top of some inexpensive poly is worth shelling out $4k for.
On cheaper memory foam beds the foundation is really important, as the mattress will eventually sag and cause massive back pain issues with slats spaced out too far.
Hi; would you say these guy's base - the one with the slats 3 1/2" apart, is okay for a foam or latex mattress or is it the case that for foam, you would need the slats even closer together? Thanks
He tried as a body double for him, but Gabe did not like the lifestyle, so that’s why he’s in the mattress business. A little more conducive to his lifestyle 😉
I grew up on box springs. Now they are made very cheap with just wood. I actually found a mattress that i can flip. I'm an old time girl who believes don't fix if not broken.
Im here because my hybrid mattress, thats on a solid foundation, feels like an extra frim mattress and am wondering if its because the solid base. Any suggestions or thoughts would be helpful!
I am looking into one of those memory foam bed in a box OR a hybrid. Can I use that mattress on top of a box spring or low profile platform? If so, which is better for that type bed?
Friends, I greet you! May I ask you why a bed base in the form of a curved lattice base is considered orthopedic? Why is this base curved? After all, it straightens when we lie down on the bed, then what is the point of its curved shape?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it! A good quality tranditional mattress with box sping is the perfect combination. You get height, support and a bit of flex.
I want a coil spring mattress. I can't stand this hybrid/foam crap anymore. They all bunch, sag and never hold their shape. I don't care how they package the foam beds, they are all terrible, but I can't find a coil spring mattress anywhere. I also can't stand the metal foundations that everyone, everywhere carries. Bring back the coils. They lasted so much longer, they were always comfortable; especially when they were flipped, and cared for properly. I'm kicking myself for getting rid of my old twin coil mattress and box spring set. They were bought in the 80's, and we're in great shape.
Attempting to phase out the traditional shock absorbing box spring was the absolute worst mistake this industry ever made. Real shock absorbing box springs are an absolute 100% necessity. Unless your mattress is 18" thick or cost $3k, placing your mattress directly on a firm hard surface (even bunkie boards) will result in uneven pressure distribution at the hips and especially the shoulders and could even make breathing more difficult for people who suffer from OSA/UARS. This problem is ESPECIALLY prevalent in larger side-sleepers like myself. Mattress companies insist that you do not need box springs for their special new mattresses but make no mistake: there are VERY VERY FEW mattresses on the market today that can actually provide the same level of relief and support that a proper mattress and box spring can provide. If you want this 'luxury' in the year 2024 then you're going to have to invest several thousand dollars on a mattress so you can save a few hundred bucks on a traditional box spring. It's not worth it. It might be acceptable practice for college kids to throw a cheap mattress on the floor or a static platform/foundation but after you hit about 30 you quickly realize that you need proper support and alignment or you will live with debilitating pain. Right now you can't find traditional box springs anywhere anymore so you're basically forced to spend that $3,000+ or suffer the consequences, spend even more in the long run trying every junk mattress and frame they sell only to be perpetually disappointed with all of them. I have had several new mattresses, foam, hybrid, you name it... I've had all kinds of back and shoulder pain, too... not to mention my arms falling asleep and going totally paralyzed from lack of circulation. If you're having these problems then you need to pay attention. I should have never left my old Serta! Biggest mistake of my life. I could have bought a small car with all the money I've WASTED on these new age hipster 'mattress-in-a-box' rip-offs listening to so called "industry experts" and clueless redditors, figuring all this out the hard way.
I have a 20 year old box spring and will probably put it under the mattress I'm about to buy. I cannot detect any wear, squeaking, or issues with the structure of the box spring. The only thing that would give me pause is dust and so forth that might have accumulated. Box springs are wonderful, especially if you have a good one. I'm frustrated over having to replace the associated mattress. It is completely supportive and no sagging. But, whatever the comfort layer is made of, it must have compressed because I have pressure points now. I might just put a topper on it even though it is 20 yr old.
Take the same mattress off of a box spring or even a leaf-spring base like those from IKEA and put it on a solid base and you will feel the difference.
@@ef2b Or you could get a cheap medium firm hybrid and throw that puppy on the box spring. If the box is still good, you're all good 👍 my mattress is a pocketed coil 'hybrid' design and I use an old box springs. If I put it on a foundation or a platform my arms fall asleep before I ever do and I get up with some pretty debilitating neck, back and shoulder pain. It sucks.
@@hastensavoir7782 You know the manufacturers claim otherwise but I have found them to be entirely wrong in their conclusions. More like big business hyperbole. "With our new mattresses you don't need a box spring." I'm sure that's what Billy Mays would say... but is it true? I don't think so.
I’m thinking of taking my pillow top mattress (11 years old) that was sitting on a box spring on a frame and putting just the mattress on a panel frame bed. Can that work? Or does a platform bed frame need a specific mattress?
I returned the frame (luckily within 30 days). Warranty aside (who uses a mattress warranty) pillow top mattress absolutely needed the boxspring under it. I rotated it around and it still firm as -not like new but…. bought a foam comforter to put on top about $200 and it’s like a whole new bed. I saved about $2-4k on new frames or mattresses. If you like your current frame, just throw on a memory foam and you’ve got yourself another few years probably. Got a memory foam have some great comforters mattress cover and new sheets and a new comforter w/duvet and sleeping great and bed looks nice!
I get the adjustable foundations (as shitty and basic as they seem to be), but if you are choosing any non adjustable foundation that isn't an actual box spring. Why, why not just put your mattress directly on the floor and save yourself the money?

Thank you for this great information.
Great video! Can u use a box spring over a foundation for extra support, Granted the slats are 3 inch?

Are you still making and selling the good box on the end?
Can you place a new foam mattress over the box spring? My box spring is 21 years old.
Is there a type that doesn't require a frame? Would that he a platform?
Use liquid nails when assembling your box springs and will eliminate all squeaks
Just how much 'air flow' is inherent with these type foundations? (another reason to ditch the cardboard one) Thanks
Do you ship the wood frame foundation setup for a king size in Utah?

I have 4metsl bars that connect like a square and it’s all open in the middle would I beable to put a fountain on it

Do box springs make the mattress feel softer overall?
It better absorbs pressure at the hips and shoulders while providing support and proper alignment for side sleepers.
