When Eugeo said “Stay Cool” I forgot it had a double meaning. Stay cool is a way to say “be calm” or “goodbye.” (Kirito explained this in episode 9?”) When Eugeo said it to Kirito for the last time, he wanted to comfort his best friend, but at the same time, knew he was going to be gone and said his last goodbye. Amazing piece of dialogue here ngl.
When Kirito told Eugeo to said that, I knew that Eugeo gonna die somewhere in some episode and tell Kirito "Stay cool" in that moment :')

@@PhantomJoker05Agreed. What I find ironic about this scene was that earlier in the series, Eugeo implies that he's afraid Kirito would leave him after he got his memories back. But in the end, Eugeo was the one who ended up leaving Kirito and Kirito later becomes an emotional wreck because of it. Eugeo was also different because he's the first friend Kirito might have had who may not be a person from the real world like Asuna and the others.

@@carmelocapili642 Well, she's the reason why Asuna and Kirito are still together. If not for her advice, Asuna would've been a dog following her mom's rules as always. And if you consider and look at the situation closely, that, enough can get you close with someone, you also have to consider that Asuna is the reason why Yuuki was able to go to school, and having the same name, even though Yuuki was Asuna's last name, can give both people the mutual feels to each other. And before I forget, Asuna knows the feeling of being in game for a long time, so I guess she kinda felt somewhat close to her due to the fact that she knows the sufferings of not being able to be in the real world. There's still a lot of things I want to point out but I can't remember the others. So basically, that enough will let you feel devastated if someone (even though that person became your friend in just a short time) who you shared your feelings with, suddenly died. You might say that this is not close enough to what Kirito feels after losing Eugeo, well I can clearly see it, the fact that he blames himself about all that happened shows it. But, still, you just can't ignore the feelings of losing someone close to you (even in just a short time). So Yuuki counts I guess.
Eugeo's death was a major turning point in Kirito's life and shows that he's just as human and vulnerable as anyone else. I've noticed that in the previous SAO arcs, Kirito is often depicted as some kind of superman who can always pull through and get over anything bad that happens to him. But when he loses Eugeo, we see him scarred and sent on a downhill spiral like no other.

I mean, 2 years journey and adventure. With basically together in everything. And dont forget as a child too, isnt he spent longer time on eugeo than asuna? Losing basically your other half is really tough even for kirito who saw dead ppl more often than others. Kirito going mute is really understandable.
I don't see these two as best friends, but as brothers... It was hard watching Eugeo die like that, and don't get me wrong I was real upset that he drew his sword against Kirito, but when this scene came to, I couldn't hate the man... And your right, I thought Kirito was superhuman and that nothing could phase him in the past arcs, but like you said, he's just human and this here proved it.

What makes this even more depressing is the fact that Alice only knows him as Kirito's friend who died fighting Quinella (The Administrator).

I believe so but, in Alicization VR Arc, does it contains even Blood Content than previous VR like SAO, ALO and even GGO that use Digitally?
Gameverse means, it something that was opposed to Anime Canon like something happened in Infinity Moment and it's remake, Hollow Fragment that involves Kirito is fighting Heathcliff in Floor 75 after revealing Heathcliff's true identity as Kayaba Akihiko but, the glitch happened causing Kayaba loosing balanced and let Kirito be a victorious defeating him but, it doesn't clear the game.
You can watch or play Hollow Fragment and, you can understand the Gameverse Storyline.
If they're A.I. like Yui, I don't know if other A.I.s like Strea, Premiere, Tia, Yuna and Arfa-sys, not to mention Hollow/A.I. Sachi, but the problem is Alicization VR World contains blood, Gore and maybe dead bodies unlike previous VR World Games such as SAO (Infinity Moment/Re: Hollow Fragment), ALO (Lost Song), SA: Origin (Hollow Realization)and GGO (Fatal Bullet).

In this scene not only Eugeo died. But the entire childhood rulid trio died. Eugeo lost his soul, Alice lost her childhood memories, and Kirito lost his emotions and will to fight. What's sad is that even though Kirito is the one who's alive, he gets the saddest ending, having to deal with extreme guilt and loss.
And pretty much being an empty potato through the first part of WoU
And even after he came back from his catatonic state, he still had to live with it. Alice was at least gifted ignorance to their past. Kirito has to live with it.
i have never been this salty over a character dying. maybe it’s just how well written Eugeo was compared to the other characters, i have no clue. his death crushed me. I seriously hope Rath finds a way to bring him back.. (i know they probably won’t but seriously let me hope)
Yeah his character didn't feel as bland as the other guys in the Sao series so it hits differently

I think the most heartbreaking thing about this moment isn't the scene itself but all the hints that came before.
His promise to Selka to return with all three of them.
How Kirito told him that he should save the phrase 'Stay Cool' for a "real goodbye".
How he agreed to come for Tiese after he saved Alice/OR Tiese promised to save him.

this is the one anime scene that really gave me the waterworks. They wrote Eugeo, as a character, so well. They also wrote their relationship beautifully, I feel as if I'm losing a dear friend watching. YOU KNOW WHAT? EUGEO IS MY FRIEND! *cries*
Eugeo had the best character development out of the whole series. I think that's what makes his death so emotional. He was able to cut down the gigas cedar and witness a world he had never known before and he got see his Alice one last time

Well, they kind of did and didn't. Eugeo's blue rose sword, which is technically him, came back to the village. And Integrity knight Alice also did with a vegetable Kirito. Unfortunately, the real village Alice died with Eugeo so the tragedy is that none of the three who left the village really came back. Kirito also never regains his memories from when he lived as child in Rulid village. Rip the original trio who left that village to see the dragon that fateful day.

Ive never been more sad over an anime death
I've never really cried after watching sad anime deaths... but this just made me cry my eyes out. I'm not a huge fan of SAO but this was just sad.

seeing Alice in the form of her memories and Eugeo joining her smiling at Kirito and reassuring him as they depart hit me hard, and the episode came out in the same week a family member died which made this scene even more emotional for me, making it real and realise it was time to depart from someone precious to me and go on with their memories living on inside of me and everyone who cherished them, hoping one day to reunite with them like alice and Eugeo:) This scene has holds a special place in my heart

I definitely wants Eugeo back too...

I like to call SAO "Wasted Potential: The show" since it always has interesting ideas and characters (Since Eugeo wasn't the first character with an actual motive and goal after all) but really poor execution so when Eugeo (The one who was the most developped protagonist) died, it really pissed a lot of people.

When Kirito teached Eugeo that you say stay cool to refer as a goodbye/farewell, I knew that Eugeo would die and say "stay cool, Kirito"
Honestly haven't cried or teared up for sword art online since Yuki and the Rudolph episode in season one.
First yukki and now this why is it all the strong ones that die Alice and Eugeo were perfect for each other yukki and Asuna were like sisters and both Yukki and Eugeo die but Kirito and Asuna survived there death stop introducing us to these amazing people if ur just gonna kill them off and break out hearts rip to my 2 favourite characters ❤️
Kirito is the only strong character in the series I guess that’s why they killed of Heathcliff, Yuuki and Eugeo
