  • Beatles guitar lesson PLEASE: Read video description below BEFORE COMMENTING.
    Solo 0:25
    I deleted the second and third verses and the first bridge. This is a 1966 Gretsch Country Gentleman played through a Vox AD15VT set to AC30TB w/ no effects. Min Bass, Min Mid, Max Treble. .010 -.046 nickel plated wire wound strings. Also, a 1991 Gibson J160-E played through a Vox AD15VT set to AC30TB w/ no effects. Min Bass, Min Mid, Max Treble. Strings are Masterbuilt Phosphor Bronze .012 - .052. The solo is double tracked. No tabs.
    My videos are really intended for accomplished guitarists who want to polish up their Beatles repertoire and can benefit from "seeing" how a song is played. If the various chords that I am playing are not familiar to you then I would suggest that you visit some of the many free guitar chord sites. I had to learn these songs by listening to vinyl records and watching live performances on tv.

    For me, this is one of those songs that really defined the "Beatles" sound and separated them from the rest of the pack.

    THEE very best recreation of the music. (I was 7 or 8 years old, playing with my Kenner 'Erector-Set' ~a box of nuts, bolts, girders, beams, sprockets, screws, chains, motors etc., on the blue polyester carpet while listening to 'I Feel Fine' on RCA stereo hi-fi. Yeah, it was wonderful. Christmas with the Beatles.

    Nice job! I'm a lifelong Beatles fan, and I really enjoy seeing all the guitar parts being played at once on the same type of guitars that the Beatles used. I'm working on learning this song to play with my dad, so thanks for your help!

    You got it exactlty right. There's lots of "hidden" stuff on these recordings which you capture to a tee. Even your mix was right on. .Bravo.

    That barre chord/picking at the third fret is a killer to play (cursed with short fingers). If I'm out messing about I play the song in open chords. Good enough for skiffle. You did a great job here.

    Very nice! That always had such a great 'alive' chord progression sound. I love the tonal change just simply going from 10th-8th fret to 3rd fret with a full bar at the introduction. Thanks for showing!

    I don't know why, but that break at 36 seconds where they stop and do that bit with just one guitar is probably my all-time favorite musical moments . Everything except the one guitar stops, then Ringo comes in and everything comes back in perfectly. I know it's not complicated, but the guitar work in this song gets me so high, Why? I haven't got the faintest clue.

      No you don't have to say more...that is one of many parts in their songs that I adore when the one guitar plays and Ringo comes back in perfectly with that beat. I'm 65 years old and I will never tire of their music. Nothing today compares

    Yeah man, I'm a working bassplayer/guitarist/singer/writer and a Beatles nut since I saw them on SULLIVAN in 1964. You've just proved me right...been trying to get the guitar players in my band to really LISTEN to the riff and cop it, to no avail. They still do it out of a standard D position, and its SO WEAK!! Chris does the solo OK, but you gotta have those chunky bar chord notes in the opening riff, or it ain't the same. THEN...I'm gonna get the drummer to play the Latin beat like Ringo does. Thanks.

    Watch one of the many live videos. You will see that at the end of each verse "I'm in love with her..." John will play the D riff and G riff in unison with George. Also at the end of the opening riff they play one G riff together and after the solo they play one G riff together. The rest of the time John is playing bar chords G7, D and C. If you listen you will hear what appears to be a double tracked riff whenver they are playing together in unison.

    I like the 1991 Gibson, but i'm pretty sure that this guitar is hard to find becuase it's an older model and John Lennon played it before. Sure sounds awsome and the Gretsch that was playing at the solo part also pretty good and they go great together. SOUNDS AMAZING ☺

    I use Gibson Masterbuilt Premium Phosphor Bronze Wound .012's. Don't get too hung up on strings, they won't effect the recorded sound of the guitar very much. Any good brand of wound strings will do.

  • @BeatlesGuitarSecrets
    @BeatlesGuitarSecrets  11 років тому

    That was the original. I was too lazy to put my amp where I could shoot a video of the feedback. The P-90 pickup on the J-160E makes it easy to recreate the feedback. Pluck the open A string while un-muting the string with the palm of your strumming hand and then just experiment with how close to bring the pickup to your amp speaker.

    Hey just a few questions.
    What kind of Gretsch guitar is that? Also what amp and did you use any effects?
    Did you bump up the treble? What strings did you use?
    What kind of Gibson was that? Also what amp and effects?
    Was it max treble? What kind of strings? Is the solo double tracked? Do you have tabs?
    Thanks!

  • @BeatlesGuitarSecrets
    @BeatlesGuitarSecrets  11 років тому

    RE your replacement strings not sounding like the stock strings. There may be other reasons. You may not have seated the string ends in the bridge pins properly or let the strings wind up too high on the tuner posts so that you don't have the proper angle over the nut. Search for info on proper string installation for acoustic guitars.

    How you doing? Me, I'm playing my guitar, HAPPY! Lol. The Beatles started it all for me. A Sigma acoustic and The Beatles Complete. (Black) I picked up a lot of chords and I realised that like at least half the stuff chord wise was wrong. Like I Should of Know Better for instance. I ended up teaching myself the right way. One question. At 1:07 on middle eight after the lead. The 2nd time around it looks like an A7th? But to my ear it sounds off. I wonder if your actually playing an Am7th but it looks like an A7th because of your fingers. If you don't mind clarifying that. I'd appreciate it. Thanks, TS. 😊

    • @BeatlesGuitarSecrets
      @BeatlesGuitarSecrets  8 років тому +3

      +Rylo Ken Thanx for your comment. I take the original stereo track and make a mono version of the left and right channels. Then using EQ I minimize the level of the lead and rhythm guitars and boost the remaining instruments. That's the backing. To make the finished recording I mix my performances with the backing adjusting levels to "cover over" the original guitars.

  • @BeatlesGuitarSecrets
    @BeatlesGuitarSecrets  11 років тому

    There is no hard and fast rule. Each player is different. You have to try out different instruments to see what feels best to you. In my case I wanted the sound of a particular guitar and simply had to get used to playing them. George was only 5"10" and I'm almost 6"2" and judging by videos/photos my hands are quite a bit larger than his -- some chords/riffs are a bit challenging especially on the narrow neck of the Ric 360/12.

    • @BeatlesGuitarSecrets
      @BeatlesGuitarSecrets  8 років тому +8

      +tubbychubby1 Thanx for your comment. As far as technical ability I would rate him average for a professional player. But he had a way of putting a lot of his feeling into his playing -- similar to Ringo on the drums. He also created a number of great riffs -- I Feel Fine, Day Tripper, etc. So, overall, I would rate him excellent. Technical ability is only part of playing a musical instrument -- technique is a very big part as well.

      Harrison i think played the guitar riffs, but I may be wrong. Back in the Day (62 - 63 - 64? LOL) I vaguely remember an interview on "Top of The Pop" (popular BBC hit parade TV show)were Harrison explained the sound at the beginning of I Feel Fine, how it was created from his amp feedback. The interviewer hadn't a clue. At that time Hendrix had yet to explode on the scene and educate us, LOL.

    • @BeatlesGuitarSecrets
      @BeatlesGuitarSecrets  8 років тому +3

      Thanx for your comment. Watch any of the live performances and it's Lennon who starts the song out with the riff and during the break in the solo. Harrison picks it up for most of the verses w/ Lennon briefly doubling it on the D version. Also, a quick Google will tell you that it was Lennon and his Gibson J-160E amplified that created the opening feedback.
