Did soaking Sunak steal a march on Starmer after shock snap election call? | The Daily T Podcast

- It’s the day after the very soggy night before.
Camilla Tominey and Kamal Ahmed are joined by Political Editor Ben Riley-Smith to get the inside track from the Conservative and Labour camps 24 hours after Rishi Sunak surprised everyone by calling a general election.
They also reflect on Mr Sunak’s slightly shambolic (and damp) speech on the steps of Downing Street and ask whether the timing of the announcement has caught out Sir Keir Starmer.

No. Standing there in the pouring rain made him look like the pratt that he is, not macho man .
Down trodden comment
Ironically that's something Vladimir Putin did at a memorial service and everyone loved it, soon as sunak tries it he looks a Pratt.
Ive seen enough the tories win again farce
@@Jacksimon18909 I don't think it's right to say everyone loved it when Putin did it. Quite a lot of people just saw it as another of Putin's pathetic "look what a big man I am stunt". Right up with the shirtless horseriding photo for me.
@@Jacksimon18909Because it's Sunak, everyone has to hate it.
The Torygraph hosts are on crack
What’s wrong with that
Pathetic announcement from quite frankly a pathetic PM. Joke of a government. This country deserves better than this!
What kind of delusion it is to pretend that the optics of Sunak drenched and drawned out by a loud speaker blasting the New Labour theme was actually great???
Classic Torygraph propaganda as usual.
This is what cope looks like, their hero made himself look like a fool so they want to look like even bigger fools saying he somehow played a blinder.
What on earth is that guy smoking? The whole country is laughing at him!!! Sunak needs to resign so he can spend more time with his money.
Soaking Sunak playing well with the public? The torygraph really is terrible news
It's not "plucky" to choose to get soaked when there's a No 10 doorman ten steps away with a golfing umbrella available. That's just stupidity and self-flagellation.
Rich boy has a servant hold his brolly, bad optics whatever he did, Steve Bray with his boombox was just Karma, no coming back from this @@charleswhite758
That first guy needs to be locked up LMAO Sunak looked good and Starmer bad WOW as takes go that is 1 of the most stupid I have ever heard.
It's not traditional for a UK PM to make a fool of himself getting soaked in his overgrown-schoolboy style short trousers.
I love how someone was playing "Things can only get better" ! This country just needs a different Government to moan about!!
Cheap trick, the Tony callback track. Yes can only get better.....Reform!
@@andrewjohn5951calm down dear
Spoiler: No.
Are Tory councillors posing as members of the public with important questions at all of Sunak’s staged events?
They threw out the Sky reporter should have been the headline
The Copium is strong with this one 😂😂😂
Propaganda live…
He's petrified that not a single flight carrying migrants to Rwanda at £200k per person would happen. What a totally pathetic PM we have inherited, nobody voted for Sunak.
200k try 300+ million for none.
Even if they send them, they only have enough for around 200. So it'll be more than a million each. Then board and lodging for 5 years.
And nobody will vote for anyone beyond that, there's a tiny number of actual voters. Most people aren't even interested and yet that tiny number still affords massive power to a broken system.
@@grumpy-dad3701 He's not petrified of that - he's absolutely certain it was never going to happen. For all their talk about planes in the air by July they were having all manner of practical problems, not least of which being that no charter company wanted to touch it with a barge pole (both because it would be bad PR and becuase they were worried about potential legal liabilities). I think the minute the bill passed and Rishi made the "in July" promise on Rwanda the election was coming. He thinks that this way he'll get credit for the policy (which assumes there are lots of people too stupid to realise what an expensive and ineffective plan it was) without having to be accountable for its inevitable failure.
My feeling is that there were few, if any votes, in getting the planes in the air, but the potential for losing votes by how weak and ineffectual he'd look if he couldn't get them there.
Good point.
Soaked his pants
The Telegraph by virtue of posting this are obviously doing their best to help.
So much copium being huffed in this video
The copium has well and truly been huffed
These people are delusional 😂
This is all very desperate, delulu stuff.
Drips can only get bigger 😘
Things can only get wetter 😭
Our politicians are of the lowest calibre . The whole lot are a disgrace..
I've turned off..can't stand it anymore
So is our media
Rain or shine we have an election to win
It's traditional in Britain to use an umbrella when it's pouring down.
The daily lair 🤦♂️
I hope Sunak’s suit didn’t shrink, after the soaking
His short trousers cannot afford to shrink even more, then he will need long socks
Sunack is a joke !
The rich stay rich by spending like the poor and investing without hesitating then the poor stay poor by spending like the rich yet not investing like the rich

I’ve really enjoyed this episode.
The level of cope is hilarious. Genuinely hysterical the attempts to spin everything. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
He's doing it because he hopes people will forget abiut failed Rwanda scheme
Scotland have called it Independence Day .
Going early has so many advantages.
The US treasury has said interest rates will be raised in the coming months.
We aren't the US
@@lonyo5377 We are the tail of the dog of the US, as are most countries of Europe. But rising interest rates do not necessarily mean a blow for the economy. We used to have interest rates much higher and were still doing pretty well. Back in the 1980s
Msm....all liars
Surorised the starmer dudbt have palestine flags up
❤❤❤ I don't know how to learn munny please some help me😢😮😅❤
I luv cam & kams show. Sunak did well to force out Harry Farage Kane (the top goal scorer in UK elections) - after RS worked out that Farage was going to be in USA on independence day July 4th, kissing the yankee flag with Trump.
Vote for the Citizen Independents or The Workers Party of Britain!!!
End the reign of the Uniparty Crime Collective!!!
Camilla is truly a snake😂😂
I truly disturbed how the media is confidently asserting this as a two horse race, your true freedom of choice is now over.
I personally admired him for his respect of the announcement he was making, knowing full well it may rain.
It’s the economy, Reform vote is a Labour vote. Sunak saved the economy and people’s jobs during Covid. He thought and acted big. Labour will increase tax, spending and borrowing finally crashing the economy again.
It's the economy all right! Liz Truss?
What about the fact that under the Conservatives we have the highest tax rate since the second world war
Liz Truss a tory actually tanked the economy?
