  • The information I have with this is it was recorded in 'late October 1961' by Cynthia Gooding (she would later host the the really good Folksingers Choice radio show interview with Bob, that aired in around March 1962.. that's on youtube still in a few places I think).
Cynthia Gooding sings House of The Rising Sun here. I note Bob recorded his first album on November 20 and 22nd 1961.. where he recorded House of The Rising Sun. Dave Van Ronk also used to play House of The Rising Sun a lot (there is a good part of the documentary No Direction Home, where Dave tells the story of Bob recording House of The Rising Sun on his first album, when he himself had planned to record it). This sounds like Dave Van Ronk with backup vocals on Bob singing Fixin' To Die ?
The third song is Lonesome Pearl, John Gibbon singing
There is a quite a bit early on in Bob's Chronicles volume one where he speaks about Izzy Young and the Folklore Centre. Also, about meeting Dave Van Ronk There.
Bob signed for Columbia on the 26th October 1961.. The note I have with this was that it was recorded 'late October' .. One thing I've just noticed is Bob mentions here that he already recorded Pretty Peggy-O .. If this is correct, then could this recording be after he recorded for Columbia (which apparently was Nov 20th and 22nd.) Pretty Peggy-O is on Bob's first album.
This recording apparently surfaced when one of Cynthia Gooding's daughters uploaded it to soundcloud. I'm not sure how accurate the 'late October' date is.. I suspect this recording could be after Bob recorded his first album.. the way he mentions 'I recorded Pretty Peggy-O..'
Linking back to the Dave Van Ronk interview in No Direction Home.. he tells the story of Bob asking him does he mind if he records House of The Rising Sun for his album.. .Dave replies 'gee Bob I'd rather you wouldn't.. I had plans to record it myself' .. and Bob then tells him he's already recorded it. I get the sense that his conversation could have happened at this party here, at the Folklore Centre. The timing of it would be about right. (although it would mean this was recorded just after the Columbia recording sessions.. not late October). I recall Bob in No Direction Home mentioning that he didn't tell anyone that he was recording for Columbia until after he had actually had the recording sessions.

Great to hear a 20 yr young Bob Dylan❤️🌹👌🌞💫🎶and Dave van Ronk🌺💥
Cynthia sings and plays 2nd guitar of
‘House of the Rising Sun’. Enthousiast enough but she’s not really my singer..Prefer her talking voice❣️ Never mind this is a great session💫💥👌
