Roosters are genetically half of your flock. If you keep just one rooster your effective population size is 2, and you are marching towards extinction. Two roosters will always fight and be poor breeders. Three roosters: alpha and beta fight and gamma does all the breeding... I always have 5+ roosters in a breeding group. And you are right, they get along nicely.
They are remarkably people-oriented, and often seem to be uninterested in the pecking order or social dynamics among chickens. Very gentle and calm birds.
@@TrueNorthFarm I have different breeds here ...shamo ....bearded silkies ....brahmas ...ect. the Sussex are good layers I had heard thus the reason I got them but they didn't try to hang out with the others they stayed in their own group of ten and let me tell you my flock is calm Everytime they tried to move they got put right back in the corner . I keep the different breeds mostly in their own areas with their own coops I bought those ones to lay they were in with the layers and after 2 months of watching them get bullied I finally sold them off so they could live in peace.
I hatched some chicks. 1 rooster and 2 hens. They are 6 months old now. I love them.

@@MikeSmith-xs1te That is what I would expect. If they had a LS rooster with them they might have been more outgoing.
Am going to keep these sights and sounds to get my blood pressure down.
