I saw this when you posted this back in 2019 and purchased one straight away, I have used it hundreds of times since then. For those you think this is a waste of money I can assure you that living in the UK it rains a lot and this stops one’s gear getting covered in mud and as Luke says it can set up level and gives a stable platform for a stove.
Hello Luke, greetings from Japan Yes for several years, the field hopper was the default table for light weight campers here in Japan, but now the time is changing and now the default table is the “VERNE Trekking Pad Cutting Board” I hope you can try it (and get it)
From making coffee with an aeropress, to fileting catfish on the side of the river and then cooking it in cast iron on my gas stove. Very strong and durable. I mostly camp out of a kayak so it goes with me every trip.
I did without a little table like this for years. I did not know what I was missing. I now, in later years, have several types of tables. One is a miniature sectioned foldable top with multiple slats that are compact when rolled up and in the bag. Two are from England that have flat tops and foldable legs and I also have this Soto Field Hopper. It turns out, the Soto is the lightest, quickest, smallest folder of all and I keep it with my Firebox gear. It is worth the money.
I have that little table and I love it. I use it to put my food and drink. I also put my electronics on it too. I’ve had it since 2020 and it has held up great.
I, too, am impressed by the quality of Soto products, which is why I bought the Soto Windmaster fuel canister Stove w/4-Plex pot holder instead of some other brand. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada
@@Tiltrotortech and at about half the price to boot. The Trekology is going for just over 20 bucks. I have the slightly larger "beach" table, but may get the smaller one as well (for mc camping). Edit... can see he put links to both the Trekology and the Soto in the description so kudos.
I like the design of it. I have sleep apnea and need my machine while camping. Finally got a mini cpap for that and will be picking this up to use for that. Need to keep it and it's battery pack off the ground. Thanks for this review.
I can see the use. Mud, wet, rain uneven ground or moss as you said, getting things off the ground/cold (even in tent) like phones and battery banks.I can also see the value of not accidentally putting a hot pot down on a tent floor. I have a larger version of this type of table in bamboo for a small tent table in my car camp set up and I love the stability it provides.
I have had this table for a year now. Only negative I have with this table is the weight. But at the same time I am not sure if it would work as well it does if it was any lighter. Its stable even if there is wind. It is made of aluminum so you can put hot pans and pots on it. When caught up in bad weather this enables comfortable cooking inside the tent as well.
The price does seem a little high, but if it's as good as it looks and has served you well these past few years, I'd be willing to buy one when I get the chance
Another good review thanks. I would probably buy this table. Another pro for in car use, some stoves you could not use directly on a car mat in the back of the car, or even directly on the metal of a tailgate. The table adds a layer of protection to the surface, currently I use a large kitchen tile, and with the raised table you reduce the risk of something rolling across the floor and knocking over a cup or pot.
Have had it for years, great gear and it's from SOTO.. I keep a thin cutting mat with it, well worth it and fits in a pack, ruck or haversack easily. Weight is inconsequential for a "luxury" item.
A $2 plastic cutting board from Walmart would do the same thing as this. The legs (height) on this one are basically useless. 3.1".... I'll just set my stuff on the ground or a cutting board.
I already have the Trekology one (American), which works well, but it's made in China and I can feel that; the mechanism is a bit noisy and its operation is not as "smooth" as it should be - I will definitely buy SOTO now, thanks for the review!
Two different products with two different purpose Adressing differents needs One tigris table got worsen instead of improving, and for car camping, this little table is mostly for light use or back packing.
@christianmartel5247 You missed the point bro, the OT with its legs removed serves the exact same purpose as this table and Luke stated nobody would find a purpose in said form factor; and then in the very next product review posts about a lowered table that he loves and uses. Either a lowered table serves a purpose or not, he cant have it both ways; and I suspect it’s the brand rather than the form factor at play here. OT’s quality and R&D have dropped and calling that out is necessary but he has to remain consistent.
Luke - Gawd bless ye, but you are the only guy I know that can talk about a table for 12 minutes. It really is an artform. All that said, I'll stick with my "Schwarze Biene Shorty" table. But great review.
Thank you for sharing this review I love it as usual you give really good insightful reviews ❤ I'm from the UK in British money the Soto Field hopper folding table on Amazon UK costs £47 (Great British Pounds) the trekology version costs £34 (Great British Pounds), I am about budget scrimp and save, spend less type so I'd rather get the trekology version. I also notice that the Soto Field hopper is only available in silver colour but the trekology version is only available in black and they both come with a storage bag, my favourite colour is black so I'll be getting the black trekology version saving those pounds too
I've been looking for a small, folding table and if this one were cheaper I'd buy it. I did find some others on Amazon that were a little bigger and not as expensive, so I'm going to try one and see how it goes. Great product review! S&H!
I have a similar table, but the legs don't deploy automatically. Attaching the legs is simple enough, but it takes a minute and is occasionally frustrating. Wish I had seen your first review of this table before I bought it, but my table is half the price of this one and is selling for eleven dollars for Black Friday. ROCK CLOUD Mini Compact Camping Table
Well I just learned I don’t have the same table as you. I have the trekology one and I thought you were using it as well. Guess they are the same thing.
A week ago, the One Tigris table you told us about was "basically useless" at it's 8" height. But this one at 3.1" is ok??? At least you can get your legs under the One Tigris table and actually use it for a table. This one is even more useless, IMO. You'd be better off putting your items directly on the ground. It is not going to offer much more stability vs just putting your isobutane stove on the ground with the legged base. It would probably amplify any uneven or unlevel ground more than just sitting the stove on the ground. Yes, this one is more "user friendly", but id rather have the One Tigris.
I came here to say that. This table is for people who just want to throw away their money. You’ve got a perfectly good stump right in front of you. Use it.
I'm not sure where everyone is going, but where I'm at there is generally a lack of stumps. Most wooded areas here are newer growth. Not really all that much of down trees either. Just saying, locations are different.
If you watch,🤔 South Korean camping videos utube, rirang onair , who CAMPS WITH CATS 😂😂 ( older videos better) and big body. Beautiful scenery. And pretty Asian girls. That have skills. 😃😲 Solo camping. They use these tables, extensively, and show the versatility of having a, level clean area while sitting. When she uses her hatchet to cut up the food she cooks, it's entertaining😂. All woodsmen will flinch. Handy lightweight and compact, portable luxury.😃
First thumbs down ive goven luke. I feel like this was paid promotion. The effort to make this a viable item was just too great, i mean really a table....for in your car.....the same surface that would hold the table would also hold the drink or plate. Idk man this was hard to watch

Verne Trekking Pad looks promising. Half the weight of the Hopper. Hopefully I can find this or order this to Europe from somewhere.
From making coffee with an aeropress, to fileting catfish on the side of the river and then cooking it in cast iron on my gas stove. Very strong and durable. I mostly camp out of a kayak so it goes with me every trip.

I love mine. Bought it because of your review. Thanks
I’ve had one for about 4 years and it’s great, I love it. Surprisingly sturdy for its size. Great for keeping your gear out of the muck. Tons of uses.

Love the table. We always use a little table on picnic tables when we camp that we cook on. This one seems lighter and less heavy than ours.
This the same as trekology table. Not sure who stole what idea from who but they are exactly the same. Thanks Luke. I love this table.
Looking at the stats, the Trekology table is more durable at the cost of a little more weight.
@Tiltrotortech understood. Thank you. I really like the table. Perfect inside One Tigris backwoods bungalow 2.

Thank You Luke !
I ordered one of this today.

Nice review. I just saw another table called the fire Maple dandelion table. Both seam neat.
Not long had mine , like it , will be using it when i go camping :)
The height of the table you might as well put your things on the ground
My titanium table has holes in it so you can setup a trangia spirit stove or fire beneath it. It also works without legs if you want.. same size.
I've had good experiences with SOTO products
Have one, use it, love it.
I found the plastic version w/out the bag at The Dollar Store. I'm not getting paid for this.
A $2 plastic cutting board from Walmart would do the same thing as this. The legs (height) on this one are basically useless.

equipment by SOTO is of mindblowing quality and perfection, only Japanese could come up with (after German engineering has been successfully crushed)

I love Soto products. Although their prices can be a bit higher than the competition, their quality justifies it. At least it does for me.
My sentiments. I bought & use the Soto Windmaster canister stove w/4-plex pot holder.
Ah 2019. I spent months in Japan that year. You should see the cool stuff they have at Seria there.

will it support a jackary 1000?
If you have a stove in a tent vestibule in the rain it would be great.
