Fun fact: la-Tour-de-Carol is the only train station in West Europe (except metro) where there are 3 rail gauges with 3 different electrifications. R3 to Barcelona uses 1668 mm and 3 kV DC. French lines use 1435 mm and 1.5 kV DC. The yellow train uses 1000 mm and 850 V DC third rail.
The line is metre gauge (not meter). In Villefranche there is a large wall with directions to adjust your sundial! The village is on La Ligne Verte (Greenwich Meridien) so is most appropriate.

i went for a ride on the YELLOW TRAIN year's ago while on hoilday in france we sat in the open car on the way and on the way back we went into a inside car cos i started raining. i have alway's enjoyed finding out the voyage of third rails and i know now that this one is 850V
It's a railroad built on a very steep terrain, so it's a wonderful scenery. The suspension bridge is also a great design. by the way, There is no cover to cover the upper side of the 3rd rail. but is there an accident of electric shock? Merci pour cette très belle vidéo.🤩👍
@xeneelik5037 I am not sure how this works, the third line is not always working, just when the train is around, but still...I guess it is very dangerous.
The old Southern Region of British Rail operated a third rail system, 750V DC from memory. The successor private Railway Companies still use the same system. The third rail is uncovered and the conductor is isolated from its supports by china (ceramic) insulators.
I would have thought a trackside sign saying "GARE" would be to alert the drivers of the approach to a station ... but here these signs seem to be placed at random in the middle of nowhere. Does anybody know why?
True, but Achenseebahn and Zillertalbahn are short local light-rail branch lines, Latour is a place where three different large networks meet with three different gauges 😀
@@ZvonimirZelenika The Zillertalbahn might be a branch line, but it does have quite a lot of freight traffic (which the Train Jaune doesn't have at all as far as I know). If that only counts as 'light-rail' to you, then the Train Jaune should as well. But apart from that: Does Montreux count (800mm, 1000mm, 1435mm)? What about Hendaye & Irun (1000mm, 1435mm, 1668mm)? Until a few years ago Siliguri Junction in India would have been another candidate (680mm, 1000mm, 1676mm), but the metre-gauge line to Naksalbari was recently converted to 1676mm (according to openrailwaymap there are still a few old metre-gauge tracks remaining though, so technically it would still count 🙂). If we include metros there would be even more, e.g. Tokyo/Shinjuku (1067mm, 1372mm, 1435mm).
@user-oq4oc2vw3h I mostly film during the weekends and that is why there are not a lot of people around. On that day there were not many passengers on the train.
@domipa3972 I appreciate your opinion, but the channel is in English. I do not speak French. As I film in various countries, it is difficult to provide accurate information in every language. I am doing my best. Learning along the way. I admit that would love to learn French, but at the moment I can speak just a few words to get by when traveling in France.

Pity about the state of the line - if it was in Austria or Switzerland it would probably be in perfect shape. Completely ludicrous electrification system - 850V third-rail with literally zero fencing and protection from contact. With possible closure being discussed due to poor shape, this video might be one of last chances to see it.
@ZvonimirZelenika It is very impressive for me the electrification system, ams, especially as you mention, the zero protection. I don't really understand how they turn it on when the train aproach and off when the train is not nearby.
@rcsuch4607 It is a pity that the line might get closed. I think it is an amazing work and an amazing heritage that it has to be preserved. I hope for better days for the yellow train.

@user-np7se4cs6t Thanks.
Awesome
@trainstudio4k Thanks.
@anthonysadoine8947 Great that you know this wonderful line. I had permission to film just until Olette.
Lindo!
@themodernnavigator4506 Realmente, a linha é muito bonita.
1:08:55 - Telemetry says 1583m above sea level, why here is title - 1593m?
@krist2ps Displayed telemetry data are GPS-based data and are not always accurate. The official data that I found states 1593m.
i went for a ride on the YELLOW TRAIN year's ago while on hoilday in france we sat in the open car on the way and on the way back we went into a inside car cos i started raining. i have alway's enjoyed finding out the voyage of third rails and i know now that this one is 850V
Interesting part is because the electricity used. It generates the energy nearby the train line.
The London Underground system runs a 4-rail system with a live and return conductor 630V DC system with the same insulators
@@petergaskin1811 Thank you so much for your explanation.
please next video cab view from puigcerda to L hospitalet?
Muito bom magnífico
@vandanerisgomes9009 Obrigado.
@jeannoelrenaudin2 Thank you. I just had a permission to film until Olette.
@jeremyleboss6580 No, not this time. I just had permission to film until Olette.
Ok
Bela viagem.
@joaosantanna7552👍
Why didn't you travel all the way to the terminus station at Villefranche Vernet les Bains?
@Eurobazz Would love to film until the terminus station, but my permission was just until Olette.
@@RailRelaxation What a shame. There wasn't much further to go.
@@Eurobazz yes, I know.
I would have thought a trackside sign saying "GARE" would be to alert the drivers of the approach to a station ... but here these signs seem to be placed at random in the middle of nowhere. Does anybody know why?
@roderickjoyce6716 I was thinking the same....do not know why
Y a d'autres cabride prévu en France ?
@MaxouTransport-gz4rt Yes, there are some. If you go to my webpage you can see on the map all the lines that I am working on, they are grey.
@castr-san1046 Thank you.
@Matteo-ei8zj Thank you for the suggestion.
Čemu služi tisti tretji tir?
@leonznidarsic Tretji tir yagotavlja električno energijo za vlak. Vlak je na električni pogon.
Nice , but video from Austria and Slovenia are more beautiful to me.
@marina28zg Fair enough!

Why doesn't it go even a little bit faster? This train is less practical than the cars. Could it at least go 40km/h please?
@GoingtoHecq it is like this to be able to enjoy the landscapes...

Go to Corsica
@beverlyhills4k-dq6hu I would very much love to go. I imagine that it is very nice.
@@RailRelaxation I doubt she'll ever close that line. Catalan NACIONALISM would not allow it.
@@javierguidounicaud6621 Maybe Catalan Nationalism should give some money to repair it 😁
@@ZvonimirZelenika today I can't answer that, but I 'll try to find out more.
The electricity is switched off where there is no train?
I can not imagine that. There is always electricity on it, I think

The "Z" sign indicates that the driver is entering a zone where a reduced speed applies.
@rcsuch4607 It is a pity that the line might get closed. I think it is an amazing work and an amazing heritage that it has to be preserved. I hope for better days for the yellow train.
