- How to Repair Saggy and Loose headliner for under $100. I replaced the headliner on my R129 1997 Mercedes SL500 using store-bought headliner fabric and headliner adhesive in less than 3 hours. This is my first time doing headliner repairs / replacement after getting a quote at a professional upholstery shop for $400.

I left all the struggles in the video because I’ve watched too many DIY videos that show the job done way too easily
I can't believe I spent 23.5 minutes watching Jakub replace a headliner for a car that I don't own.... Entertaining and informative if I ever do buy an SL500 though 😄
I appreciate it. But it will also work on any headliner, except the disassembly and reassembly parts
Nice job Jakub, very impressive work there.
Great video Jakob, love to see the small struggles in jobs like this.
Thanks, that’s why I left them in. Too many DIY videos are too perfect lol
Outstanding job !! I purchased a set of those circular drill brushes last year and love them... use them for many applications.
Also worked great for cleaning my carpets
Great job! The more work you do on your own cars, the deeper the love is for them 😎
Yeah I just don’t have time or desire to do every job. But it is satisfying when it works out nicely
Haha that’s right! Just find a good balance and enjoy all your cars for different reasons
wow it's like UA-cam knows that I need to replace the headliner on MY R129 SL500, this was at the top of my feed and I've never even searched the subject 😂
Amazing. Also, I recommend attempting it
I hate these jobs, glad you had the patience for it! I would have convinced myself, “I don’t really need the hardtop.”😂
I thought I would hate this but it honestly wasn’t bad. If the shop quoted me $200-300 I would have just got them to do it. At $400 I felt “how hard could it be?”
Dude, awesome result!
Thanks, super happy with it
Job well done 🎉
Hey Jakub, just a word of advice... whenever you're working with any cloth like material trying to stick it to a surface, always use a roller to make sure the material really sticks evenly to the surface because just pressing it with your hands doesn't make sure the pressure applied is even throughout. It can leave some air between the material and the surface. Just roll on the applied surface after sticking it with your hands with reasonable pressure. It really makes sure that the surface is then smooth all over and correctly stuck. I sometimes even use like an aluminium foil roll if I don't have a proper roller with me.
Great job though! Saved a lot of bucks!!
Interesting, thanks. I didn’t see that tip in any of the other headliner videos I watched
Saving this. I have to do mine as well!
Definitely tackle it yourself
Amazing Work - Enjoyed the video
Thanks buddy
Great job!
Great job! I know that you said to wait ~5 minutes after spraying the adhesive to then attach the liner to the shell, but I was surprised that you didn't give it a while to then cure after it was attached before putting it all back together.
I figured it would be tighter if I just reinstalled it right away. I did give it an hour or 2 while I ate lunch lol. The instructions on the can didn’t give any cure time either
@@itsreallyjakub makes sense. An hour or so is probably all it needed anyway.
Great Video ! I'm going to do it, thanks for such a informative video.
I would recommend the attempt at the very least. It’s not bad!
You should have use trim removal tools, it will help you with those overlapping rubber edges..but overall good job buddy 😁💪
Definitely would have helped
Second set of hands...hear that juri?
Is that hardtop the original? What optional accessory codes does your 129 with regards to upholstery Very unusual to see the C-pillar trim to have stitching and leather appointment outside that of the SL600's. I believe there was an upgraded "exclusive" leather interior package on offer for your vintage 129 to option a 500 or 320 to have the same leather treatment as a 600. Either way, I think you have a rare example on your hands.
Yes it’s original and yes it has the exclusive leather package or whatever they called it. I looked it up with a VIN check when I bought it
Sure looks great! Is the gasket that holds the headliner in connected to the flocked rubber that the back of the side windows slides against? (My headliner is fine, but my window gasket flocking is wearing and I’d really like to replace it.)
Sorry I’m not sure what part you’re talking about. There’s no gasket on the back side by the window
@@itsreallyjakub Sorry. I wasn’t clear in my question. The side windows rub against a rubber gasket along the back edge. Are those one piece that continues into the gasket you were working with across the front of the headliner?
@@caddyzig no those are separate. Different material too
@@itsreallyjakub Excellent! That’s really helpful. Thanks.
am i gonna see this car at the vaulture car meet🤔
I don’t know what that is
Thanks for this vid! Could you please do one on how to hide wiring for dash cams and radar detectors?
You just need a plastic pry tool. There’s plenty of videos already haha
Once again, Mercedes sticks it to you for extra money when making repairs to their cars. I was looking here in MN. The sprays run 18.00 t0 25.00 bucks...American. Nice job though.
So a bit cheaper than here
:)
The inside of the hardtop has a cool rat rod vibe without the headliner and rear panels
Definitely
