      At this point, I don't understand why future motion doesn't add them. It's almost criminal considering the injuries the nosedives create ; and even from a marketing perspective, the nosedive is the worst point of their product ! I don't get it.

    For a device at this price I would expect the Onewheel to give some sort of audible warning if the tiltback isn't enough in itself. Kinda scary how it just nosedives like that.

      @@Zuflux Try explaining that to anyone who has been thrown off a skate board, seemingly unexpectedly. This is a distinction without a difference because with the skateboard it is user generated input and feedback, or a rock or twig that the user didn’t see. TLDR: DO NOT HOT SWAP YOUR BATTERIES. IT WILL FRY YOUR BMS AND DAMAGE YOUR BOARD.
    So I saw this and wanted to post this for anyone who might watch this video and want to do the same thing! The Land Ranger Kit's are awesome. It uses a method called VnR 'Vamp N Ride. It drains both the OW battery and the EGO battery at the same time. So when one is dead, both are dead. When you plug in a fully charged EGO battery, 'a rush of current will go into the depleted battery and it will affect its health/lifespan. 20% voltage difference between the 2 batteries is okay.' - SonnyWheels FAQ.
    The point is, VNR your board. If you want extra range, run the two EGO batteries in parallel on the fender or in a backpack, and use all the batteries at once. When you hot swap, you will end up damaging your board and end up spending quite a lot on replacement parts early.

    • @aramhammoudeh8397
      @aramhammoudeh8397 4 роки тому

      If you want to hot swap batteries, you need a CnR or PnR (Charge and Ride, Plug and Ride) solution. Instead of tapping into the power lines, you plug an XLR cable into the board and charge on the go. You have to wait until your board is down to at least 80% and you have to switch it off when going down hills to prevent overcharging, and you have to have a hardware version 3206 or earlier to make it work. This makes VnR more appealing, but with the CnR you can ride as long as you have charged batteries, making it a possible solution for ultra-long range riding

    • @JohnDDyer
      @JohnDDyer  3 роки тому +1

      yea the rate that the juice rushed to the OW batter I believe is within its specs to handle (I thought I also read this on landsurfs website), buuut I also had a pretty old board with over 3000 miles so i wanst too worried about the battery honestly. its def safer to not hot swap them like I did but it kept riding fine after doing that a few time then later died due to excessive water damage lol

      On one hand, including the wheels takes away some of the choice and trick potential of a Onewheel, forces Onewheel to admit their safety features are sometimes wrong (and that they haven't been able to remedy the problem yet), and isn't a guaranteed fix.
      On the other hand... fangs can be kind of cool; if Onewheel supported Land Surf, they kind of help build a little Onewheel Economy and community; they admit that the Onewheel does not always behave as expected and that they are aware and have a solution; and maybe this would open the door for other accessories to be officially supported.

    TLDR; Don't hot swap batteries after you've gone through the first one.
    Thank you for the video. It looks like you are wiring the EGO pack in parallel with the onboard battery. I've just started using a similar setup that uses EGO batteries but uses the XLR charge port instead of a parallel setup. I don't believe the XLR method is materially different than a direct parallel hookup (i.e. I don't think there are electronics in the OW to limit current flow through the charge port...but I have yet to get a factual answer on this).
    When you swap EGO batteries from depleted to a fresh pack, you may be hitting your OW battery with many AMPs depending on differences in voltage between the EGO and the OW. I don't think this would be a problem when the OW & EGO are both fully charged. Have you measured the current draw with a multimeter in amp mode? On my OW, I see a spike of 5A when initially connecting a full EGO to a 85% OW (58v EGO connect to ~54v OW) this quickly settles down to 3A range. For reference, the OW+ charger is 3.5A@58v so a 5A spike is not a crazy amount. I would think hooking a 58v EGO to an empty OW (48-49v) would spike MANY amps...be careful, these big ego batteries have potential to flow a lot of current 2.5Ah=20A, 5.0Ah=40A, 7.5Ah=60A. I'm not an electrical engineer but it's my understanding that DC DC parallel hookups like this will attempt to equalize on voltage as fast as possible, which could result in a lot of heat.
    At the end of the day, I think any method that uses a single EGO battery to hook up when both packs are near full is fine....but when you plugged that 2.5 in after your onboard was getting low, I cringed.
    Can you report back on your experience with how many times you've done field battery swaps (full to empty) and if you've seen and adverse effects to the range of the onboard pack?
    Also when you do an EGO battery swap when the OW is low, do you notice the wires hooking to the XT90 connector getting hot?

    The fang wheels won’t allow you to ride out a high speed nose dive. How do I know? Because I nosedived at high speed with the fangs and got thrown onto the pavement HARD.I’m thinking if you had run higher air pressure at the stock setting of 20psi you’d have gotten better range. I noticed a pretty dramatic improvement going to 22-24 psi with my stock tire.
