The positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve is a simple system that introduces filtered fresh air into the crankcase. The PCV valve uses the engine's vacuum to pull air through the crankcase and reintroduce it back into the intake manifold system.

lol I guess we will never know. Only 2 comments in 2 years. One thing he could have added, was that if the PCV valve rattles that means it’s functioning if it does not rattle that means it is stuck and probably going to cause oil, consumption problems, or a host of other problems
But I don’t remember seeing that in this video, although I only skimmed through it . I have the same problem right now with the 2006 RAV4 2.4 L it’s exactly the same engine as the one in this video. But I am burning a shit ton of oil. The car doesn’t smell like burnt oil. It’s not leaking it. It doesn’t even smell like burnt oil. A tiny bit. and there is not even a drop on the ground , so this car is guzzling oil in the amount of like 3/4 of a court, every 70 miles. It’s fucking bad.

Hey man, sorry for the delay. I haven't had the car since I made this video. I do remember, my car burnt oil like crazy and that's why I changed the pcv to give it a shot. I had same problem and symptoms as you. Changing pcv is regular maintenance and should be done anyhow. I usually flush my oil every 6 months with a cleaner and run new oil but since you're burning oil that's up to you. After you change your oil, go ahead and out some lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer in it. Your rings are probably leaking and causing a burn. When it sits for a day and you start it. Does it smoke? I know mine didn't show any symptoms except losing around a quarter every 2 weeks and if it sat for over a day I'd see a little smoke at start up and it would go away. This is a normal issue for these cars. Unless you wanna change the rings. I'd just use an oil stabilizer. It won't stop it. It will slow it down tremendously. Make sure and use a good high mileage oil. The Supertech at Walmart is a great brand if you have to keep topping it off. Just buy the best they have!
