Finally....really needed this....the amount of dieticians that have recommended this and intuitive eating to me despite having a restrictive eating disorder is ridiculous

But intuitive eating should be natural goal of recovery from restrictive eating disorder

To every professional advising this ; sorry, but I spent my whole ED mindfully thinking about every morsel I eat. As if I want to continue that bollocks now!!!!

Oh my you are an inspiration. I agree with this so much. We don't need to overanalyze everything! I had an amazing moment this week when someone asked me what I had for dinner last night...and I couldn't remember... but I could remember the skype call I had with a friend throughout it!

Yeah, I remember trying this before. Didn't ever work. Lol
Besides, isn't that a contradiction in itself?
    "Am I still hungry?"
You wouldn't be asking yourself that if you weren't still hungry.

Love so much Tabitha, you are helping me so much in my recovery, now I've reached a healthy weight, and still know I've to be patient with both body and mind as it's been a long time with anorexia,so even though my I've been eating well since early this year,I still don't have a great appetite because of the stomach issues and bloating,so I appreciated your advice on how to be mindLESS as it makes sense to me and I'd say many others with eating disorders, and looking at cats doing silly things sounds bloody good to me. Still got our fingers and paws crossed for wee Stinky over here, love as always Tabitha😘

All these rules around eating.. They just add to all the rituals I already have around my eating. I fear all the things you" must" do the food diaries, the mindful eating etc, etc. Once they have been put into my system they stick and eating gets all those obstacles, things that must be done before, during and after mealtimes. 😩

I think we have actually been to mindful about our eating (and bodies) and look where it got us... we should be mindful about the ED thoughts, the anxiety etc... I do love mindfulness meditation, being mindful and such but I also know it’s been counterproductive with my ED, being mindful not to eat too much etc...

i just wanted to add that sometimes you eat past the fullness. Obviously in ed recovery but normal people eat for the taste or whatever too.

I knew that this would be your answer, although I saw people in the comments section of one of your videos saying that you would promote it and do it 🙈🙈🙈🤣🤣🤣 I just smiled to myself and thought, no I doubt it but didn't want to cause controversy!!!!.
Deffo can't cope with mindfulness during eating, I'm usually watching UA-cam whilst I'm eating, lolllllll
Take care Tabitha, thank you so much for keeping it real 👌✌️ you crack me up 🤣❤️

I’ve tried to explain why mindful eating can be a nonsensical concept for those with eating disorders before. I try to compare it to the experience of being too stoned. It’s easy to become hyper-focused on whatever you’re doing to the point where the entire world disappears. This is kind of what eating can be like sometimes with an ED. Working toward mindlessness is key!

Not to mention, that even for a healthy person with no ED probles at all, it is quite fun to eat while watching TV, reading a book, have a conversation with family or friends etc. And not to focus on the food only, it sucks.

People make the stupidest rules to excuse their fear of food.
"OMG I'm 99% full! I've commited a sin! I'll skip dinner because I'm too full" - this is how it sounds.
"mindful eaters" I've encountered are usually hyperfocused on food and "health"

Love your content but I have to say I don't think this would apply to everyone. Personally struggled with anorexia then bulimia then BED. When I'm binging I have a complete less of control. When I'm mindful when I'm eating it's the only time I feel at peace and that my ED doesn't have control over me. Being present and mindful as I'm eating prevents me from feeling this loss of control like someone else took over my body as during a binge. I understand your point but I think depends on the situation!

After I've eaten unrestricted for 8 months and and beyond weight restored, I'm trying to use mindful eating to get full enjoyment. I want to get every bit of pleasure out of the food I'm eating

Ive been trying to explain recovery feasting to my dad...hes trying, but is still concerned about it being binging and due to my hostory of bulimia keeps trying to convince me of the wait 20mins after eating coz bodies take time to register fullness signals 😒
This makes me question my permittance to eat..and we often but heads about what is 'normal' eating...i love him..but gee

it’s a stupid stereotype about 20 min before reaching fullness blah blah blah
as for me , I feel if I’m still hungry or not almost immediately after I put a piece of food in my mouth . for other people it’s the same

I completely agree, I had really wacky hunger signals in recovery, but now, soon a year in, I KNOW when i'm full, i don't need to wait another 20 minutes. I can be full after 10mins of eating or 40mins of eating, the time really doesn't matter.

@@user-jc9ft1mu4s Yeah, i def don't expect my hunger levels to stay stable yet. Up until this point extreme hunger kept kicking back in, maybe with less force then in the beginning, but I think this back and forth is something to be expected. It will even out - slowly - but it will (:
