In 2021, I moved from Canada to Ukraine. Not long after, the war broke in and changed life here in ways I never expected. To cope with the stress and uncertainty, I turned to doodling, creating stickers, and designing coloring pages.
Two month ago I started selling on Etsy and got 41 orders and x4 5-star reviews! It may not seem like much, but it means the world to me knowing that people care for the things I make ☀
This is very comforting for my mental health and I hope to have the means to grow my shop soon! 💞

I could see the disappointment on my father's face when I said that I didn't want to study computer science, the same thing he studied in school. He tried his best to hide it but I know it was there. Same thing happened with my mother, but she was much more vocal about it. “You're going to be a starving artist” was basically what she was saying. I started my small business in 2024 to prove to my parents that there is space for the arts in this world. There is space for humanity.
In some way I am proving to myself that there is space for art. Space for me. And that's why I continue to make handmade crafts, write personalized thank you notes, and spend time talking to people when I sell at markets. The world needs artists as much as it needs software engineers.

Congratulations on taking this big step! May I please give you some advice, if you were my friend? I think its absolutely brilliant that you want to be an artist, hey, I am too! But you know, its entirely possible to study, work and still be an artist. This approach will be the best because you don't have to quit your job cold turkey and you can use it to fund your artistic ambitions. All the while you don't have to worry about rent or be stressed out. You can still achieve your dream.
I say this because thank God I was able to complete my studies and have a job and now I even started my UA-cam channel and posted my first video and am writing my novel. (Not this account lol, this is a personal one). So I really hope that you will consider this.

@syedarizvi7290 hi! Yes I still graduated with a degree in design and I work part time as a graphic designer. Thank you for the advice. I didn't mean to come off as if the two worlds are separate, it's just that one is much more appreciated than the other.

@@Lisshum Oh absolutely! I'm glad you're able to balance those things together, that's the best thing one can do. I think its an approach that is the most practical. Even for me, I feel like my job and meeting people on a regular basis helps me to get ideas to write and create art.

Hi,uncomfy Your journey has been such an inspiration to me as I begin my own business this week. I’m 18 years old, and I’m from Kerala, India. I’m starting this business not only because I’m passionate about creating cute, minimal clay products, but also because I want to become financially independent. I find great joy and relief in making and selling my creations-it’s something I truly love doing “truelyyy❤❤❤” I’m currently in the preparation phase, designing my own unique products and not copying others, as I want to bring my own ideas to life. I'm starting a small business because I come from a poor but creative family. We grew up surrounded by art, my dad is woodworker and he makes traditional hungarian furniture by passion which I'm greatly inspired by. My biggest dream is achieving what you were talking about in the video, which is retiring my parents and helping them financially. Someone buying something you made is like sharing little parts of yourself to people you have never met before, and I think thats a beautiful thing since everyone can understand this language. I do feel like artists dont get put at the same value level as other jobs and I also feel like that should not be the case. After AI being used to make art, I believe more than ever that the world needs real artists. I want to start a small business because art is something that I really love and sharing it with other people is so rewarding

After years of not feeling like I was good enough, I'm finally starting to accept myself the way I am and not the way people want me to be. Watching your videos and a few more great creators gave this not-so-smooth but definitely significant journey of my life validation.
I decided to work under the same niche of Polymer clay and started a UA-cam channel for it, where I crossed 500 subs in 6 months! Like you said in one of your videos, pushing yourself a little is important for little anxious people like us, like me, and so I finally started posting my work on IG and got my first order! It really made me appreciate you and all the other artists- small or big, out there much more! As a 21-year-old with no money and no support from my family, but a little twinkling flame of passion, I'd appreciate it if I get chosen to get the giveaway, but at the end of the day, a deserving artist's win would be a win for me too.
And of course, staying uncomfy is definitely a win too:)

Growing up an art kid, starting my own business has been my end goal. I used to think that I first need to graduate from art school and have credentials before I could actually start my own business but watching your videos I realize that I can start sooner rather than later. I also had a friend of mine recently start her own small business and it has motivated me to do the same. I'm starting a small business because sharing my creations is what I want to do with my life. I like to joke that I'm a fairy since they also create things and becoming a fairy was my life's mission in elementary school. I see my art projects as my magic🧚‍♀️✨️. Creating was my form of therapy back then and it is my form of therapy now. I've been sketching out sticker sheets, prints, bookmarks and washi tape designs in my sketchbook that I would like to make. I plan to predominantly sell stationary Items since I like to journal. I've also been design plushies that are meant to be magical companions.✨️✨️

I'm starting my small business this year because I've always had a passion for creating unique, handmade items, and I finally feel ready to share my creations with the world.I grew up in a tough situation, where money was always tight, and we had to make do with what we had. But through it all, I always loved art. I remember watching my mom, who had such a beautiful artistic soul, dreaming of being an artist herself. It hurt me to see her give up on that dream because it seemed unrealistic given everything we were facing. She never had the chance to pursue her passion, and that’s something I’ve carried with me. Now, starting my small business, it’s my way of honoring that dream for both of us-showing that even if the world tells you it’s too hard, you can still make it happen. ❤

Starting a small business has been a little untouchable dream of mine for a few years, but now it actually seems possible. To me, this means gaining financial independence from my parents, holding myself accountable for expressing the creativity I've had since I was little, and giving me the chance to give some joy to others through my art. To have a small business would also mean creating an identity for myself outside the confines of high school and building the skills necessary to flourish in the outside world. I also want to honor my grandmother who died almost 10 years ago - she was a sculptor. My dad keeps her vases all over the house in her memory, but both the vases and our memory of her are only collecting more and more dust. I want her to know that art is just as important to me as it was to her and that her legacy is and will continue to be carried on by me and my sister.
Thank you Tammy for all that you do and inspiring so many people :) it means the world

I have spent the last nearly 8 years of my life dealing with chronic health issues that have forced me to really rethink what I want to do and how I will be able to do it. In that time I've started working on developing creative skills as a way to process my feelings of what was happening but found the process of creating to be where I found my purpose. It's what I truly want to do in my life. Making a small business creating things, for me, would be my way of gaining back the confidence, financial independence, and purpose that I thought for so long I would never have again.

In middle school, I took my first art class ever. It captivated me. It made me excited to go to school every day. Art brings me joy and focus, and it makes me excited to see others happy when they make art. I love how I can design and create something with my own hands and share it. There are so many mediums to work with and something for everyone. I love the conversations created around art too and learning why others enjoy it like I do. My goal is to start a business this year where I can create art from home while I work my way through college and provide for my family. My friend started a wedding portrait painting business, and watching her slowly grow has inspired me greatly. Thank you, Tammy, for the videos you create. As a stay-at-home mom of 2 kids, I've witnessed firsthand the challenges of balancing family life with financial stability. Starting a small online business selling fashion accessories allows me to contribute to our household while still being present for my children during their formative years. Despite the challenges I’ve faced, it’s that unwavering faith in myself that has carried me through. Now, I want to create products that serve as daily reminders for others to believe in themselves too-because everyone deserves to feel empowered, no matter where they come from or what they’re going through.

I actually started my small business in 2020 making handmade crochet products. I loved the creative outlet in the midst of such uncertainty. I really struggled afterwards in terms of balancing my job with my small business and I closed my shop in 2021. In the last few years, I haven't been able to get back to into it but this year I'm so inspired to get reconnected with my inner creative and potentially breaking that negative thought cycle of not being capable of becoming my own boss. I'm inspired not just with handmade products but with other art mediums that I love and/or want to learn. This year I'm claiming to be the year I get back to who I am. I've been working away these last few weeks building a stock of items for my re-opening in February! I usually have all of these moving parts floating around in my mind, not knowing where to start, and ultimately becoming overwhelmed. I appreciate you taking the time to make videos like these. It really takes the fear out of trying again.

I used to be a game dev, but in recent years I've become increasingly disabled to where the work load for my body was inconsistent and unmanageable. Disability is time consuming to get on and barely anyone is hiring part time for online work. I'd always wanted to re-open an art store and I plan on doing so come summer. I've been a passive lurker of your videos for some time now, but I've been loving all your business videos and your approach to starting a business. I think I got so caught up in the details over the past year, I psyched myself out from taking the plunge. Winning the draw or not, I'm still so thankful for your videos :')

Hello dear (づ ̄ 3 ̄)づ, I want to give back to the art community what I got from it. I’m a 21 year old psychology student, an extremely anxious one at that. I’ve always grounded myself with the help of crafts; first with colouring books, then crocheting little things and making silly jewels, which I would later share with my middle school classmates, and after that with music. Till 2020, when I discovered on Instagram that you could make digital art using a tablet. From then on, whenever I would find myself in a panic attack, being overwhelmed by fear, or hearing yet another fight between my parents about our financial situation; I would open a calming and aesthetic UA-cam video and start drawing alongside it. As if I was living a different life, in which I was rich, and everything was perfect. Right now, I’m in burnout because of my perfectionistic tendencies and my fear of not being enough. But watching content like yours is still the highlight of my days. I want to become a comfort person and build a space where people who want to learn art can find the resources to do that.

I started selling my crocheted plushies back in 2023! At first it started as a hobby; it was a way to distract myself from negative thoughts. I was in a place where I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do in life, and the constant pressure of my family made me feel anxious. Crocheting helped me ease that uneasy feeling, and I always found comfort in plushies, so I thought, what better way than to spread some comfort through my art? Since then, I’ve been honored to crochet over 200+ plushies! It wasn’t an easy start, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything! I’m constantly finding ways to improve my business, and a tablet would be an amazing addition since I’ll be able to sketch while also reducing the amount of paper I use! ♻️ When I'm feeling down, I always watch your videos! Hi Tamy, thank you for giving us a space to share our unique stories. Before finding out about your channel, I never considered the idea of opening a business.
I have always been defined by my passion and obsession with the things that make me happy: music, movies, etc... I have been that person who supports artists and creates fanart about them. Two years ago I discovered K-pop, and although it inspired me and gave me strength, I felt alone and ashamed because my social environment saw it as something ridiculous. However, I understood that everything we love reflects something of ourselves. Learning to listen to myself and find what I like helped me get through that.
As a graphic designer passionate about illustration, I have been working on visual products, such as posters and other items, inspired by phrases from songs that have marked my life. Each piece is designed to remind you that it's okay to be yourself, celebrate who you are, and remind you that you deserve love. My hope is that by looking at them or having them, you find the strength to move forward and stay true to yourself. I want to create a space where people can love what they love without shame.
I discovered this purpose thanks to you, and I couldn't spread it without your inspiration. Happy birthday!!!!!

Dear Tammy, Happy Birthday! Why am I starting a small business this year: When I watched your story about starting with handmade art in 2020, it really hit home. Just like you said, there's something powerful about saying you'll do something and actually doing it. Today, I'm taking that leap myself.
Life threw me a curveball with a recent layoff, but you know what? Like you mentioned, it's about trusting yourself and creating your own path. Your journey from handmade items to running a successful business showed me it's possible. I'm starting my own sewing business, carrying forward the legacy of my mom, who spent countless nights sewing just to put food on our table.
I'll be honest - I'm completely new to social media, and it's scary! But your advice about finding genuine connections with people at the same stage really resonates. I love how you said it's not just about how something looks, but how it makes people feel.
Thanks for showing me that breaking free from scarcity is possible, and that building something of your own can change not just your life, but your family's too. Here's to taking that first step!

Happy belated birthday, Tammy! 🎉 Wishing you a year of success, retiring your parents, and living the life you dream of.
I started my first small business in 2017 at 13. Back then, I was a neglected kid, struggling in academics and overlooked because I couldn’t pass required classes. I was the one tinkering in the corner, exploring things others found “weird.”
For me, business became a way to embrace my differences. I learned that success in business comes from being unique-offering something others don’t. It became my escape and, eventually, my greatest skill. Business showed me I didn’t need academic excellence to thrive; it allowed me to accept and grow into who I am.
Today, I run a corporation empowering experimenters and innovators to leverage AI and VR to solve real-world problems. I strive to educate and inspire those “corner kids,” helping them realize the world is for them-just as it was for me.

I decided to start my small business for two main reasons. First, I wanted to get away from constantly worrying about money. Starting a business seemed like the best way to take control of my finances. The second reason is to help my parents. I’ve been dependent on them for allowances, and I wanted to reduce that burden by being more financially independent. I'm really excited to see where this journey takes me!

I'm starting my small business this year because I have struggled a lot to keep more traditional jobs and have a long history of mental illness. I think I have a lot of hope and wisdom to share with people because of what I've been through and I really want to do work that is creative and meaningful. Thank you for being you and starting your business!

    Hi Tammy!
I'm starting my small business this year as a way to give myself into my art and for once, do something for myself. As I've grown up, I've realised that all my life I've done things that would guarantee financial security - persued sciences, bachelors in computer sciences, working desk to work bare minimum. I really really wanted to make as much money as I could as soon as I could - for myself and also for my parents who've done so much for me. But in the process, I burnt myself out and turned to art for comfort and I want everyone to have a piece of that feeling. Your youtube has been a great inspiration for me. Thank you.

Hi Tammy, my daughter recently started a small business selling crochet items. She doesn’t have a lot of resources but your channel has really helped her out. I appreciate your art and you are such an inspiration! 🩷

I’m starting a small business because I’ve always worked under toxic managers who would stone wall me when presenting new ideas then steal them and present them as their own to get credit. I’ve wasted so much time crying, stressing, and living with anxiety to the point I would stop showing up to work to avoid being subjected you the treatment I was getting. I want to trust myself and not be so afraid of failing. I know I have the skills and my support system is amazing. I want to show women that you are smart enough. You are strong enough. You are worthy enough to be successful and don’t need to be absolutely miserable to get there. You’ve inspired me to just do it so, I’m going to!

I started a small business because I feel this is my life's purpose. My passion for creating and crafting keeps me going and gives me so much joy. I love sharing my creations with people and I want them to connect and understand the meaning behind my craft. I want people to feel something about my creations when they see them and use them. I want my creations to be their favourite piece, prized possession, something they can keep forever and give them joy. Because this is exactly how I feel about every piece I make. :)

Being stuck in the 9-5 routine for nearly 20 years, we finally started a family business and glad we did. It started bringing out the creativity and passion that we had before life happened. Following this channel, it brought motivation to us (including our children). Our business was a way for the family to work together, and a teaching moment for our kids to understand that your job can still be enjoyable.

I'm starting my small business to prove to myself that I can do it! I've always been artistic, but for years I've been floating around unsure of what to do. But the people around me have really believed in me, so this year I'm taking myself seriously and finally taking that leap of faith.
Coming from an immigrant background, I hope with my small art business I can give back to my hardworking mama and also be a part of the representation in my area.
Thank you for putting out such cozy and honest videos, it helps out so many of us uncomfy folks :3

You are such a sweet soul and a kind person. A major inspiration for other artists like myself. I'm finally taking the step to be brave enough to start a small business because ever since I was young I loved creativity. I was always a very lonely child but art helped. It made me smile and that's what I want my small business to do. Art that brightens peoples day, brings comfort, positive reminders, or a laugh. I want to put more positivity into the world

I'm starting my small art business because that is THE only thing that makes me forget to drink my water or check my phone or overthink my actions, because I feel connection with others just because we share the same passion for creativity, because in that moment I'm creating my own world and I want as many people as possible to be a part of it. I think it's worth it ❤️

I'm starting a small business because I want to rewrite my family's story. Growing up, I watched my parents sacrifice their dreams to provide for us, and now it's my turn to give back. I want to create something meaningful, not just to support myself, but to inspire others to believe that it's never too late to dream bigger. My small business isn’t just about making a living - it’s about honoring the people who never gave up on me and building something that future generations can be proud of. Every small step forward is a reminder that even from humble beginnings, we can create something beautiful. ❤

Starting my own business feels like the perfect way to finally prioritize what truly matters to me: spending more time with my ill mother and ensuring I have the space to care for both of us. Being able to rely on my own creativity and passion for art means so much-it’s a chance to build a life on my terms. Your content has been a great source of encouragement, reminding me that it’s okay to believe in myself. Thank you for that!

I’m starting my small business this year because I feel like it’s finally the right time. I’ve been putting it off since last year because I kept overthinking everything, and it just made me feel uneasy about taking the first step. But this year, I feel braver and more willing to take risks. I’m not going to let that uncomfortable feeling stop me anymore. I’m ready to make it happen.

I started my small business because it is something I have always wanted to do. My career as a registered nurse began 8 years ago after graduating salutatorian of my class. When I landed my first nursing job I realized “wow I spent all this money on school for a career that makes me miserable” I felt so defeated. 8 years later I am luckily working a job that I am less UNCOMFY at. I enjoy my co-workers and patients. But deep down all I have ever wanted is to run a UA-cam channel and talk about yarn and sell my handmade crochet and knit items along with hopefully patterns some day. I have crocheted my entire life and over the years have toyed with the idea and never thought it was possible until I started seeing others succeed crocheting and knitting and being creatives. So thank you for your content it truly is inspiring and your work ethic is incredible to watch. Keep on growing and learning and sharing your light with people

I was going through a really tough time physically last year - I was sick and couldn’t do very much. That is how I discovered your videos. Watching your videos brought me so much comfort and joy during this time, and your message, vibe and work ethic inspired me to start learning how to create my own polymer clay art and start building up my own polymer clay business. I truly admire you and what you have built, and I trust that one day my small business, Cozy Hearts, will be just as successful and impactful as Uncomfy. I truly want to thank you for the intention you have put behind every single video you have posted and every piece of art you have shared with us. I have bought several of your pieces and they will be with me forever. I love them! Thank you for taking the time to read this. Have a beautiful day ❤

I'm starting my small business as art makes me happy and to help support my family financially. I also want to show my kids that if you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything. I've always loved creating, and art keeps me sane. My next goal through this, is to gain confidence and stop doubting myself.

I'm tired of digital products. Most of my time I was working as photographer mostly digital, since not many people wanted physical ones. But when my introvert and social anxiety started to hit, and every year hitting harder I'm trying to change my life for more comfortable conditions. But starting from scratch is HARD.... I mean struggling with perfectionism, fear of making mistakes. It's both fascinating and terrifying, becouse I know I'm stepping into new territory where there is a lot of things to learn. Still.... collecting essentials for my designs, testing some things it's money consuming so it's going slow, becouse at same time I need to work to make a living. Knowing my luck I won't win, but still... wanted to make a try at least. And Happy Birthday Tammy! It's very nice of you wanting to support someone with tools for work ❤‍🔥
