  • 1969 Hurst/Olds 455 vs 1969 Buick GS 400 (Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race)
The battle of 1969. First, you have a 1969 Hurst Olds packed with 455 cubic inches of Lansing, Michigan power. Then you have a car that's more of the, "fast with class" variety, that being a 1969 Buick GS 400. Automatic transmission in both cars.
Remember, both cars participate in the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race series, so please check out their website: www.psmcdr.com
Also make sure you check them out on facebook!

Wish we had a true 70 hurst olds. Instesd issue with either demmer who modified them or hurst and we got the w45 aka Rallye 350 instead. Cool in its own right. A wannabe w31 with the little less potent L74 engine. Great cars but wish they offered them in Rallye red/hugger orange also and maybe 1 more “mopar term high impact color”
And we got the 70 pace car. I guess once the 455 ban in a bodies was lifted no need to have a true hurst anymore till I think 72 but they came in the not doing pretty supreme/notch back /vert body style only
69 hurst olds one of the sexiest cars ever made

We live is some weird times. I took my daily driver 2018' Buick Regal Sportback (4 door sedan ) Front Wheel Drive 4-banger with little turbo to the strip right after I bought it ( so 1000 % factory stock ) with spare tire and all, and other stuff in the trunk. It ran back to back 14.3 @ 96 mph (14.36 @ 96.19 mph & 14.39 @ 96.27 mpg ). I weighed at the time about 250 lbs. With me in the car it tipped the scales at 3,757 lbs. On a decent summer day driving on the highway around 60-65 mph It will sip 39 -41 mpg ! and in the city during rush hour she'll drink 22 to 24 mpg.
When I test drove her she had 5 miles on the odometer. Sales dude let me and me brother go on our own and I drove her trying to break her to death. She took it like a champ going up/down hills, twisties and me intentionally bouncing on the rev limiter all the time !!! Boy how times have changed. But I'd trade her for a 67 Buick 400 any day. Or a 72 Dart Swinger, or a 70 Super Bee or 74 Trans AM 455 SD (white with blue stripes 😁), and a few others like 65-67 GOAT, 65-67 Chevelle, 65-67 Chevy II / Nova or 69 maro.

Hurst Olds: What a classy muscle car! Something that was brought to my attention decades ago is that these Hurst Olds had one of the more efficient hood scoop designs due to it's forward location on the hood, which was also a feature on the Firebird Formula 400s and 68 Shelby GTs.

Technology has come so far, these are some of the kings of the time. It took a different guy to run Buick Olds and Pontiac's like my friends and I. Always LOVED that body line on the 69 Buick GS with those hood scoops....for some reason the 68 looked a bit awkward...it had a long air scoop by the cowl, and they usually had a heavy trim strip on that side swoop in the body line that made it look "underslung"...Had a ton of fun in a GS convertible that was my brothers car in my youth. She would roast that RH wheel to oblivion...yes 1 wheel wonder axle stock on GS400s! It was still an impressive car on the road, the mid-range power with 440 lbs of torque make for awesome 120MPH blasts....it WAS fun and felt fricking amazing as a rowdy youngster!

Can never figure out why a 67-68 Camaro has a much higher market value so it's gotta be much faster right? (?)........ I confess........ I've got a 350 hood on mine, switched a '67 Camaro RPM gauge into the fuel dash pod and installed a '67 Camaro console mounted 3 pod gauge ( I think a '67 'Bird only came with Temp., Alt & Oil idiot lights & possibly the biggest dash gas gauge ever). I never did like that hood RPM eyesore opposing the hood scoops & the lack of gauges so there's that ONE Camaro plus I'll concede. Stats show them both around 14.4 sec @ 100.0 mph.

It's a dark time for us muscle car lovers I can't handle another shock to the system.

What's crazy is Olds own Quad 4 HO was quicker than either of these. So, there is a replacement for displacement.

well, if you threw a cold air intake on that minivan it’d probably beat any car on the road. those CAIs are good for at least 200 more hp 😎

Cars And Zebras the thing is, I'm not kidding. Oh, the minivan doesn't have a CAI nor does it have a tune. Just surprised these didn't run quicker . My old Quad 4 ( the Olds replacement for displacement) was quicker and faster than both of these. Just surprised, that's all. Don't be hating on the Quad 4.

Cars And Zebras He's not wrong. My Olds 442 Quad 4 ran easy low 14s, high 13s in quarter mile with 5 speed stick. You had to rev the crap out of them, but they were quick for 4 bangers. I as well was surprised that these cars weren't quicker in quarter mile.

@@johnkendall6962 the point being there is nothing to be crowing about with the disparity between these two muscle cars. I wonder about the caterwauling the olds guys would put up if the situation were reversed. No matter who has this much advantage , it proves very little. I wouldn't be too proud of my stage one beating up on a 350 Buick GS. I like to watch these races, but to say one is superior over another that is outgunned this much gets kind of old
