So true! Used to come on the luck of seeing a stream get stocked by the dNR and for trout it was 8" minimum for keeping and a lot of what they were restocking with some were 8". The kids dream come true and we did follow the rules to the T as we respect what DNR does for our fishing industry.

I used to go to Red River, New Mexico for a week every summer. I would trout fish just about every day. I even had a spot under a bridge for when it was raining. I used Power Bait. I would catch & clean them, my mom would coat them in cornmeal & my dad would fry them. Can’t get any fresher than that. Boy, we’re they good! This brought back some wonderful memories!

Fellas, I REALLY enjoyed this one. Brought back some precious memories for me. Memories from the fifties, when my Dad and I used to fish in central Illinois. Well, he fished, I did every thing else. Especially the fire. I could build a fire IN the lake. Well, maybe not IN the lake, but I was the goodest fire builder in three counties. Some of our overnight fishing trips included a whole mess of bullfrogs. All caught with bare hands, NO gig for us. Dad would sometimes take a stick and whop em but we never shot or stuck any of our frogs. I gotta say, "Thanks Dad!! For showing me HOW to have fun, and then letting me do it!!" And, actually, for making me responsible for my actions, at all times. NOW, I see, those were super valuable lessons. I hope that someday, Houston will feel that way toward Daniel and all he is teaching him. You guys will re-live and love these memories for YEARS to come. Good on ya!!

Steve made it sound like you had a sasquatch on your property! lol. Smokey bear was rescued 30 miles from where I live in New Mexico! There's a nice little place there about his story. Those were some nice trout. I need to take my son trout fishing at our little lake-wanna-be. lol. They stock bigger trout, but the limit is 2, since it's a private fee lake. The only problem with trout is that if they swallow that hook, it's a keeper whether you like it or not! They are delicate. At Bottomless Lakes State Park, we would have a roadrunner stand nearby hoping for canned corn or anything he thought he'd like in the tackle box. We named him Fred. I always took extra corn for him, but I had to keep my tackle box shut or he'd hook himself! It was always nice to see Fred.

Ok Daniel a little suggestion for the next time you clean your trout. If you run your finger down the spine starting at the head you will feel a little indentation. Do your bottom cut like you did then at that indentation cut down to just above those front fins. Pull the head down and towards the tail and the head the front fins and the guts will come out all together, it is a much cleaner and faster way of cleaning your fish, Enjoy.

Last time I went trout fishing was in westbend, OK. back in the 80's. The boys did well in the vid, reminds me of the times I was a youngster in the woods doing all that stuff.

Great video, I’m glad to see a video, you haven’t posted much lately. I always look forward to your catch clean and cook, with the family.

Great content Daniel! I think it is a great idea to create a little diversity in the winter off season. Maybe some hiking the state parks, boating and fishing on some of the lakes and rivers in OK, and mushroom hunting in the spring, etc. Any outdoors activities with family are wonderful.

Trout fishing and eating it for dinner on a camping trip is one of our favorite things to do. Fun video and Huston looks like he's having a blast making his fort.
