What's your favourite and least favourite reinvention shown in the video??
Just come back for another look and noticed the question. Tbh there isn't one that I dislike. All of them are as individual as could be.The space available has been used very wisely and in the case of the twin silos, even more space added. The elevated walkways will bring much pleasure to the local residents and wildlife of course. Even though I am an atheist, I find the architecture in some churches fascinating and the one within this video falls into that category. As for the galleries, the video says much more than my words ever could.
All in all, common sense has prevailed with these developments, re-inventing what otherwise would have been demolished and use for road-fill and at the same time erasing our precious engineering heritage.
Many thanks again B1M and please keep up the great work. Not everybody leaves comments but from the thumbs up, this indicates that what you do is great work.
Sincerely
John.
for me personally it's the sky gardens. I find myself dreaming of a time when all the busy traffic of the city will be taken underground and the surface will be all parks and gardens
Least favourite is the South African Former Granary turned into a museum. Everything about it was exceptional, but the concept of the atrium seemed patronisingly oversimplified when I learned that the shape of the subtractions in the silos was based of a grain of corn.
For me .. it's ALL of them ... But if narrowed down to ONE
= It's the Silo reinvented
@@pepumarius2006 I agree.
That grain silo on Cape Town's waterfront, incredible.
by Thomas Heatherwick, you should check his other works.
Phenomenal... its my favourite too!
A grain silo was converted to a hotel in Akron Ohio in the 90's.
Hi guys im from cape town S.A !! Saw that building before its very gorgeous
Hideous still
Fascinating stuff. The interior of the silo conversions in Denmark and South Africa are fascinating spaces.
I love redeveloped buildings like these. Great video.
For goodness sake, here we go again. I have officially run out of compliments for this superb channel.
Once again B1M, you nailed it.
Greetings from the UK
John.
Haha! Thank you so much!! 👍👍👍🙏🙏
@@TheB1M is b1m situated in the uk
Thank you for your great content. I never do this but I thought I give you a shout out from Cape Town seeing you’ve featured one of the city’s new additions in two of your videos. Always look forward to your posts.
As long as they retain heritage I'm all for it
so true!
And if they're not, so what.
@@Live-Life-Freely Then you might as well build a new building.
We need an Archeofuturist perspective on architecture, combining the heart and soul of the past with the cutting edge of the future
Wow the repurposing of the Chicago Firehouse for the Optimo Hat Company is great. Major props to them for investing in their local area and breathing life into a building that would have been terrible waste if left to rot. i'm definitely gonna check out their selection of hats now. RESPECT!
My favorite construction channel!
Every time I go to the BIM App I learn more and more it is so educational I become truly thrilled.
How many other construction channels are there?
🇿🇦❤️ sending love from Cape Town! That’s one of my favorite buildings in the skyline. (Ps also half Danish, this episode seems like it was just for me!)
This will be the future of architecture.
That silo interior is the perfect setting for a Kubrick film.
We have a lot of historic buildings here in Bridgeport, Connecticut. I hope someone give these buildings a new life. Great video!
This is one of my favorite B1M videos so far! So many creative ways to "recycle" a building. I really want to learn/study a bit more about this topic☺️
Thanks!! We're really glad you enjoyed it.
I wish this one went on for an hour!
You have no idea how much inspiration and how refreshing to watch this as a civil engineer
This channels is shooting far above the UA-cam average and deserves way more subs! Great stuff! Keep ‘me coming!
B1M you are doing great documentaries, thanks
More of this kind of videos please!
I always look forward to your videos! another great video! 🤙🏽
I’ve heard of the Zeitz Museum (2:38) before. Absolutely amazing!!
While I'm not a huge fan of all of these, as an architect in California I'm very impressed with the concepts and encourage more of these.
Architecture is an art, not a science. We'll never get the true treasured masterpieces without some trial and error. We architects all have buildings that we "learned from" earlier in our careers.
And again, The B1M shines.
I love it when people renovate older buildings or areas. Edmonton, Canada has done some good ones in my time.
Man, I love waking up to these videos. Best way to start off my day!
Only thing better than these buildings is the B1M video talking about them. Your videos are amazing!
Distillery District, MoCA, the old Stock Exchage, the John St. Roundhouse, the Harbourfront Centre, the old Kodak site, not to mention a ton of private projects (condo developments like College Park and the ones reusing the old fire hall and bank on Yonge) and projects yet to come (Victory Mills and the Canada Malting silos, the Hearn generating station, most of the Port Lands). Toronto is full of examples of old buildings being reinvented. I work as a tour guide and one of the compliments I get quite often about the city is how the old blends so well with the new.
A well thought out presentation of the many structures featured. I'm a South African and had no idea about the museum conversion.
I was in Cape Town a few weeks ago and went right past it on the red bus. Didn't go in - really wish I had now.
I thought the Cape Town building was the best in the video, that hollowed out look of the building with the 16 concrete storage silos made it look like the building was a giant bee honeycomb that someone had pulled a piece out of. Very unique.
Really enjoyed this episode of the B1M. Keep up the grand work team!
Amazing video. Have to add a few of these to my visit list
Waiting all morning for the latest video, not disappointed!
Haha, thank you so much!! 👍👍
I’m not gonna lie. I always hit like when I see a B1M video before even viewing it. But as usual you guys never disappoint. Another excellent video
Excellent video. Thanks for all of your hard work on these. 👍🏼
Another great upload!
I love this channel. Continuously putting out outstanding content. Great Job!
What fantastic examples of adaptive re-use!!! Great video, as always!
Thanks! We're really glad you enjoyed it!
will gain millions of subs if the quality contents continues
Thanks! We really hope so 🤞
Thank you for making great videos.
When I saw that Grain silo in person at V&A waterfront Cape Town, I was absolutely *shook*
It is HUGE
This is honestly such a great video. Im really thinking about getting into my passion of architectural design after finishing up my studies rn in electrical engineering. But this video give me some new design ideas on my designs. Thanks, great content as always
Another great video, I'm so glad I found this channel. Thank you!
We did that with old train tracks in philly. Turned out into a park. It's pretty cool
I think that it makes MUCH more sense to modify existing structures wherever possible.
It makes sense:
HISTORICALLY,
FINANCIALLY, AND
ENVIRONMENTALLY.
As usual, this was a great video.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
Oh my, these designs are almost orgasmic, I loved this video!
This is an amazing video as always!! Saludos!!
I came here from Cities of the Future ...i love this channel!
The challenge is for visionaries to re-purpose these wonderful sites... before they become so dilapidated that their surrounding communities suffer.
Awesome video as always guys! A great addition to this list when completed next year will be the "Substation 164" building in Sydney, that we are building at the moment.
Ay mate
Damn, plenty of great designs and solutions! 😍😍😍😍
The Zeitz Museum atrium is absolutely beautiful... WOW
I’d love to see a follow up video to this, like comparison of before and after renovation of older buildings
I'm from Cape Town. I've been inside the grain solo, its been renamed the Zeitz Mocca Museum. Its as incredible in person as it looks!
This channel is amazing. Period. Just wow.
Thank you so much!! None of it would be possible without our amazing viewers. ✊️✊️
I really love ur short documentaries
This was an extremely interesting video! I think it will become increasingly important to be able to 'upcycle' buildings as we are more conscious of the resources we are using.
Long time watcher of The B1M. It was great when you started the video with the narrator on-screen! Gives a personal touch, although your content always great.
Great video -as always.
It’s like the future buildings, restoring yet innovative.
I like the video👍
Fullerton Hotel in Singapore is also an example of adaptive reuse. You might check it out.
Stunning stuff innit!!
Please continue your Quality, interesting videos for ALL of us to Enjoy ... totally like refurbishing existing structures
I saw the Elb-Philharmonie in Hamburg in the introduction and waited for it to come up but it didn't. Not that I needed it to be on here, since it's been all the talk for months when it opened and was the center stage for that riot ridden g20 summit...
I just expected it to come up last and then suddenly the video was sadly already over.
That's what happens when you get greedy as viewer, you expect more and more...even if what you get is plenty and as usual of excellent quality!
i want him to make a berlin palace video
@@Sofus. the berlin city castle wouldn´t fit into this video. The Building is a complete reconstruction, actually just the facade. This video is about buildings that were transformed and not completely new constructions.
@@pazuzu002 Yes that's what I mean a video about new constructions of old buildings.
Very interesting and very educational, thanks
Love hearing about structures being repurposed. Some can be quite creative, while being adapted in such a way that tries to make them more intuned with current urban planning development and design. Thx for posting. Oh, and that Cape Town reinvention was the one that stood out the most for me.
Great variety of building mods. Especially liked the Church transformation in Vught!
Thank you! It's awesome isn't it??
There’s a lot of disused buildings being reinvented in Liverpool too. Great to see!
I love seeing these adaptive reuse projects. Would love to see more in the future. :-)
Great video. Thanks
Do more of these! These recycled buildings are fascinating.
Fascinating. Thanks.
You should make a video about the Gherkin skyscraper in London. Its incredible design, eco-friendly concept and temperature adjusting technology definitely makes it a worthy skyscraper to look at and talk about!
This was a good video, as always!
Thank you so much! 👍
We've got more of these projects in the Netherlands.
Some very interesting stuff is being done, definitely worth the look if you are an architect.
Can’t wait to see the Netflix show ;)
The Sarcastic Potato what Netflix show? Have I missed something?
@@disorientedkiwi7984 I'm not sure either, but read it more as they would get picked up by netflix to do longer episodes.
FANTASTIC!!!
A favourite of mine in this redevelopment style is the Gasholders near King's Cross by Wilkinson Eyre.
Impressively Creative & Resourceful.
Cape Town's repurposed grain silos are incredibly beautiful and unique. The heritage of the original building has been retained in an ultra modern way (perfect for a museum of Modern African Art). Love this Channel!!!!
Amazing video, thank you B1M.
Do you know Ateneo Gran Splendid in Buenos Aires? It’s a gorgeous library build inside an old theatre. Really impressive!
Incredible work👏👏
Well done and understandable!!!
................................
Wonderful video. I just wish it was longer, taking more time with each structure to show how they fit into their landscapes and how they are used. Thanks.
Love this channel!
Thanks! We love our viewers! ✊️✊️
Thank you for this video..it was nice to see Chicago in this video....Thank you....
Very nice...
I was hoping to see a mention of the Gasometer in Vienna. That looks very interesting. The buildings featured here are truly remarkable all the same. Thank you.
There’s an abandoned water tower somewhere in Europe that has been converted into a home that would be a nice addition to this list
Great another video! 😁
I reckon a good one to add to the list will soon be Battersea power station.
Yeah, that will top this list, arguably one of the most recognised buildings on the planet by now.
That church is awesome in the Netherlands. Also with the 2md level you get a better look at the architecture n the ceilings
My home town build their old cotton mills into condos and it look amazing. I love when ppl repurpose a building instead of bulldozing and building new
Yes do a part 2 to this series!!! Checkout Ponce City Market here in Atlanta!!
We're on it!
The amazing ingenuity of these architects is inspiring! In particular, I truly appreciate the reuse of all those silos! Not to mention Iceland reusing a cathedral!
In the United States, we tend to look at our historical buildings and say “Knock it down! Build new, build better, build bigger!”. We do this in such a way as to erase our history. This is a hallmark of the “American Way”.
Good work sir i admire the know how appreciated..
Great video.
Thank you!!
Great video.
Well done guyz
Thank you!!
@@TheB1M
You welcome guys. You videos are so amazing. Can't wait to see another beautiful video next Week
Thanks for adding a example from Italy, we are plenty of old buildings that have been refurbished. Anyway, amazing video as usual
It's thanks to everyone who makes the world a better place, especially in this channel by informing of benchmark beauty, that I can see a brighter future than what other organizations (like media (including the sci-fi genre) and industry might otherwise indicate. The future is not what it used to be...it's better.
I stayed at a hotel in Ohio that was a Quaker Oats silo. It was great. Thanks as always from Orlando Florida.
Yes, in Akron, I stayed there too.
That was great! But I was seeing just enough to be intrigued and want to know more, as we were already moving to the next one. More like this please, but also more detail 😉
Thanks! Really useful feedback.
A rail bridge in Philly was also converted to green space.
hey its my office! 0:10 the Goods Shed North in Melbourne's Docklands. Shame you didn't do segment on this one, its a pretty interesting 130 year old converted railway shed. We lifted one of the maintenance hatches on the floor a while ago and the original railroad tracks are still there.
