Dude why don't you have more videos? You could easily compete with some of top dogs on UA-cam relating to editing and video production. I'd be especially interested in learning how you did the effects for your intro edit.
Yo thanks Tyler! If only there were more time in the day! I'll try and get some new videos out soon. And I'll put the intro effects how to video on the todo list.
These are great rules to start with for basic cuts in a music video! I particularly loved your explanation of cutting for emphasis on the 1 beat. I've always done that, but didn't realize it was a part of music theory. It's great to know there is a term for it! I would say though that as a music video director myself, that although editing on beat is a good rule to start, that it's not necessary to strictly follow all the time. In fact I find that videos that edit on beat too much become extremely boring and predictable. Instead it's important to edit where it makes sense for emphasis. I liked your analogy with dance-- that the edit has to flow. If there is a moment in the song that emphasizes something that's off beat, say a hook or embellishment that takes center stage, then it's time to shift to that. The most important thing is flow / emotion.
Thank you so much Tomas. I've been meaning to get something up but work has been soooo crazy :/ Which is good and bad as you know. Anyway, maybe that's TMI, but yes I plan on getting a few things up soon!
Doug. Thanks my man! I'm trying to make time to put together more videos. Work, kids, friends.. If there were only a few more hours in the day.. No seriously though, I plan on putting more stuff out soon. Thanks for the encouragement and stay tuned!
It seems so smooth when you do it. I'm trying to montage a movie into a video clip and it's like I don't have enough material to work with/ not enough scenes where things move/ when they move it's not relevant to the words in the song. Uhg, I wish Icould edit like yoooooooouuuu!!!!
Hey Casey, great content! Quick question my friend, where did you come up with all these cool transitions? Did you develop these yourself or what? Look forward to opening a dialogue. Cheers, Rip
Hey super dope video Iam just staring in this music video world and Iam having a hard time trying to figure out how to add that gloss on the music video to make it look professional it look like I have just a bunch of clips put together loll plz any info would help Iam looking at the sample u did and that look super dope
Ok so the first thing I'll tell you is that it takes time to get good - just like anything. I look at videos I've done in the past, and I'm like "holy %@*$ that's garbage". You know what - you've inspired me to make a video. "Basic essentials to making a professional video". Haha, thanks for the inspiration and subscribe so you catch the video. I'll try and drop it in the next few weeks.
Hi Casey, i work for Bradley Friesen, he's a youtuber in Vancouver check him out, i currently shoot with the a7s but will be upgrading to the 1dx ii very soon, how do you like it & do you convert your 4k to prores before editing in prem? If so what do you use to do that? Really loving your skills, keep them vids coming (;
Chris Carr I love everything about the 1dx mII except low light performance. It's not bad, just not as good as some others. I do not transcode to prores, I just edit the native codec it shoots in. Premier has the ability to create proxies automatically, so if your system is having a hard time with the 4K then making the proxies is as easy as a few clicks.
This guy made watching tutorial a refreshing and educational experience.I approve :D

Right. Jees
Only editing on Beat gets really boring very fast and you should not do it all the time! Most professionals use it very wisely
Agreed. And different musical genres work better with cutting on beat than others.
awesome
