Not Autotune, but artists like Daft punk incorporate the use of 'talk box' to create that 'bending' of the pitch and thus a digital sound. Like you said, they use it as an effect which I think works beautifully with their trademark robotic sound. I think it ultimately comes down to the reason of using Autotune - to create a unique sound? Or to veil and hide behind the imperfections of one's voice?

Tanya, you actually sounded better without the auto-tune. Your problem isn't "staying in tune", but rather, lack of abdominal muscle support. The key to singing in-tune, with rich timbre and good control over your tone is to keep your abdominal muscles under moderate tension while singing. This increases pressure on the the diaphragm, thus increasing both voice power and controllablity. Otherwise, it's like you're trying to drive a car on a freeway in first gear.

Because the producer didn't know how to use it. Generally you use the key the song is written in as the scale in autotune, but he used a chromatic scale, which sounds horrible in most cases.

Using autotune doesn't make someone a fake singer. Ed Sheeran uses a little bit of pitch correction/autotune in the studio, but he's really good live. Same with Sia and a few other artists.

I guarantee you cannot spot autotune very easily. Pretty much everyone uses it. If you are already a great singer, then only a very small amount is needed, making it nearly undetectable. You can only spot it very easily if it is heavily used. Go watch some videos on it on the channel RoomieOfficial. He has one where people tried to spot autotune, and it's very difficult. I'm positive you won't make a 100%

The problem with Autotune is a continuation of what music videos did to music. It helps prioritize "the look" over talent. Record companies want a certain image for their pop stars, so they'll take a mediocre singer with the right looks and Autotune him or her. Meanwhile, truly talented singers who don't fit the currently popular image are putting out great stuff for knowledgeable fans, but not getting the publicity or commercial success they deserve.

I don't think this guy is very good at correcting shit vocals with autotune. What the major music studios can do is far more impressive. You don't need to be able to sing at all. You just need to look good and be sellable. Shit, they don't even write their own music at all... and they barely perform it.

Peterjohan01 Yeah, major producers, way before 2011, could correct horrible vocals.
You don't need to be part of a major studio to be able to correct the vocals well. All they do is they record enough passes for each section of the song until the recording engineer or mixing engineer hears that you have enough for autotune to work well (for example if the singer tends to drop way below the intended note and then correct themselves to the correct note afterwards, that is unrepairable and they would record that part until the singer stopped doing that). It's no secrect that only the major studios know how to do. It's just tons and tons of work and I don't think they wanted to pay this producer or the reporter enough to make him and her want to do that kind of a recording session and that much post-production work. Also, a LOT of autotuning is not actually "automated". With the really bad singers, you manually correct the vocals using autotune. But that is very time consuming. However not something only major studios know how to do.
Anthony Berlin You should hear Britney Spears' voice through her concert mic... the one that she sings along to the music with... well, nobody in the audience hears it, but someone leaked some of it. Truly dreadful. My point was simply that this was a pisspoor example. All the autotuned parts were clearly fucked with. The major studios and people who know how to use the shit, do it flawlessly and seamlessly.

It's very hard to hear with them but pitch correction is a standard nowadays to minimize production costs, singers dont have to do 100+ takes like in the old days, etc. In pop, autotune is in 99% of singers guaranteed. In some, more than others. Pitch correction found its way even into some small parts of metal, but metal, jazz and classical(opera) still remain the least autotuned genres with little to no autotuned singers.
As for talent in today's generation, it's hard to say since people who actually have talent don't get commercial recognition nowadays. Good music is still out there, but you need to try harder to find it...however, once you do find it, it's the kind of stuff that puts the shitty pop on the radio nowadays to shame XD

That's like someone who has a degree given to them for something that they never even received any training for and they pretend that they earned it and want recognition for it ...but to each it's own!

Yes, but it can never sound completely natural (which is what singing is supposed to sound like!), for just the same reasons as why violin sound effects on a computer can never sound as natural as a real human hand playing on a real violin.

I was pleasantly surprised to see her singing into an Avantone CV-12. I've got the same mic, it's a very good mid-range large diaphragm condenser mic for vocals if anybody is searching for one with a $500 budget. Honestly I think the correspondent would improve greatly with just a little conscientious practice and some critical listening. She has a very pleasant voice that just needs some training and practice.

What's the go to program these days?
Melodyne is way more powerful and natural at pitch correction than autotune. It literally only messes with your pitch, leaving things that make your voice natural intact. But it doesn't correct pitch in realtime like autotune does.

I didn't mean it that way. What I'm saying is that auto tune is sometimes used in small quantities to make the sound quality better, and that's good. But there are people who abuse the shit outta it, and they sound terrible.
Well, some use it deliberately as an effect. Just like you could use a vocoder, delay, or reverb. In that case, it all comes down to your own preferences. You're allowed not to like it, but that doesn't make autotune sound objectively terrible. T-Pain, in fact, is a very decent singer _without_ autotune, but he uses it to great lengths because he likes the digital effect it has.
Comic Blaster search got drums autotune trolling on UA-cam and watch any of those videos. that's a good use for autotune instead of "correcting" people's voices
It depends on where you use it and how much you use. Sometimes, it actually contributes to the emotions of the song.
