- A trip out to Green Island & St. Helena Island from Wellington Point, Brisbane, Queensland. True Kit Discovery 330 inflatable with 9.8hp engine. It's pretty fast, I was too scared at full speed lol! It can move though.
lovely day. good stuff. id recommend you carry a fuel reserve separate to the main tank. speaking from experience :)
I use two anchors when out for overnighters, facing boat away from shore. You could get away with a long line to a stake onshore.
if you have the wheels, just beach it every time. try south straddie and moreton via north strad.
I have wheels for it, but they get in the way of the engine, they're easy to remove, so I just carry them in the boat, I do use them on every trip. I thought about carrying spare fuel, but I've never used more than half a tank for a 4 hour trip. I guess if I was going further I'd take spare fuel.

Lovely video Rob. I followed your journey via G**gle Earth and spotted stuff I'd not seen without your commentary - like the little railway line, complete with it's own small siding. I have to say you are a Brit after my own heart "I hope there's no snakes in here"... I think I'd be like that every minute I was in Oz! I'm Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

Anchor your boat out in the water old mate. Anchor line at depth + 2x depth. Let it settle on wind and tide. Know your tide. Set anchor so that your knee height or whatever depth of water you have calculated for time of stay/ tide drop.
This is for outgoing tide. Incoming beach boat gently. Set anchor up the beach.

Yes, it was bought from NZ. Just remember that you have to pay import tax on top of the cost of the boat & postage. I didn't realise that & was hit was a $600 bill.

Gday Rob I’ve just bought the same boat as you! Sadly I’m in “lockdown Melbourne” so haven’t had a chance to get it out. Your outboard looks like a Tohatsu 9.8 4 stroke - is that right? How do you think it is for power? Is the heavier weight of the 4 stroke an issue? Sorry about all the questions but look forward to your comments/advice! Cheers Gerard
Hi Gerard, yes you are right, it is the Tohatsu 9.8 4 stroke. I think it weights 37kg, it doesn't seem to be a problem, but I'm no expert! It seems pretty quick & the first few times out I kept the speed down, it was too fast for me, but I'm getting used to it now. I reckon it's a good size engine for the boat though.

Hi Rob. Great purchase. Right time of year down under fior new boat. Unlike UK in Autumn. Also poised to order a TK 3.3 or new 4.0m in UK, so am very interested in the combo with Tohatsu 4 stroke. Am considering the Tohatsu 15hp, as MPS engines appears to be same size and weight as the 9.8hp (think it’s same basic unit with different tune).
My questions: is 4 stroke heavy to carry from car etc? And, are you running stock OEM prop, or did Rod advise on best prop?

@@gaycha6589 Hi and hope all is well (as it can be) in UK. Just a clarification re Tohatsu engines. Tohatsu 9.8 2 stroke which I currently have weighs 28 kgs. You can’t buy NEW 2 strokes in Aust (since 2019). Tohatsu 9.8 4 stroke weighs 37 kg and that is what Rob has kn his Discovery and says it goes very well. Like you, I am interested also in the 15 hp 4 stroke but it weighs 43 kgs - 6 kgs more than the 9.8 4 stroke. It is still the lightest 15 hp 4 stroke but not sure about the extra weight. I’ve asked Rod but he hasn’t tested one with the 330. In terms of propellers, I purchased a SOLAS cupped prop from Rod on his recommendation. I believe top speed is slightly less but cornering is much better and the boat gets up and on the plane faster. As for me, my boat is in the garage as we are still in lockdown after 105 days!! Cheers
@@gaycha6589 I think Gerard has changed here's it, but to answer about carry it to the car, I used an outboard trolley to move it to the car & don't find it too bad to lift in, you develop a bit of a technique. I also put it as near to the tailgate as possible to make it easier. I'm 6'4", so that helps I guess, but I have a bad back & it's about the limit I'd want to lift. I used to have an 8hp 2 stroke (I think) on a sail boat & that was very light, I could carry it in one hand for a short distance if I had to, although 2 hands made it easier.

@@rachaelsellars3876 good boat, but I kept getting punctures, with one being right on a join where I couldn't repair it. I sold it for next to nothing for repair & lost a lot of money. I was very careful with the boat, so no idea how it was getting punctured. Also I got fed up with all if the cleaning & drying back at home before putting it away. I think if it was on a trailer it would be better, just hose it down & leave it to dry, but packing it away you have to be sure it's dry or it will get mould on it. I tried to find a trailer, but they're hard to get for a soft inflatable as both tubes need to be fully supported. I think if I were to buy another boat that it'd be something with a solid hull & on a trailer. That's just me though, other people probably have different experiences.

Hey mate did you have trouble registering it since it came from NZ ? Do we need to get an Australian Builders plate assigned to it ?
It was easy to register, same as a boat bought in Australia. It doesn't need a Australian Builders plate, although after registering I had a letter that said if it was sold that it would need one. It has the NZ plate on it & from the info in the letter that covers it & it wouldn't need an Aus plate to sell it. The hard part is getting the rego numbers on the boat as the stickers don't stick for long. I tried a few methods including putting the numbers on a plate, but in the end I put the stickers on & traced around them with a heavy duty black permanent marker & just coloured them in. You can buy flexible paint for putting the rego on inflatables, but it's very expensive. I've been passed the water police a few times & not been pulled up, so the marker pen seems fine.

True Kit is a New Zealand company, you'll probably need to import from NZ, not sure if they have any overseas stockists. They have a website if you Google True Kit.
Did you measure top speed.?
I saw another video, it was about 16 knots with 9.9
No, I didn't measure it I'm afraid. I did have a rough idea of the distance I could cover in a certain time, so I guess I could've worked it out, but can't remember what that was now as I sold the boat a while ago.
Hey Rob, I’m looking to purchase a True Kit inflatable, there are 2 of us, do u think the boat you have 3.3mtr with a 9hp would be big enough. I’m looking to use the boat for fishing and short trips, so will have gear with us too. Thanks Rob
I'd say it would be okay for 2 of you. I sold it a while ago though, got fed up repairing punctures.
Ok thanks Rob appreciate your response. I’ve had an inflatable many years ago & never had any issues with punctures. Where were you getting the punctures? Thanks again for replying Rob
@JustcruznRob-AlanaBuick mainly on the side of the tube, near the bottom. In the end, I got one on a really awkward join that was too difficult for me to fix & I sold it for next to nothing. I think it needed a professional fix & I'd had enough by then!

I've not tried it with anyone else in it. I reckon it would go pretty well with passengers in though.
