Come off it! Violent crime in the UK is miniscule compared to SA! - That's why we live in Cambridge... If I was thirty, I think I would also still be in SA - preferably in the Cape - But with the constant fear of crime in SA (which perhaps might be worse than the reality) and the decline of the Rand, not to mention corruption, political incompetence and other major problems. We'd be crazy to come back! Unless, of course, we were one of the very wealthy 'swallows' who can afford to live anywhere, and run off back to Europe should the need arise. Glad to hear the youngsters are making the most of the situation, before SA finally gets to follow the same path as Zimbabwe. But we will stick to the occasional holiday and rather end our days, much more safely, in the sun of Andalucia.
"before SA finally gets to follow the same path as Zimbabwe": Yeah ... how long is that going to take? Been hearing that line for for way too long, way too long. Meanwhile life passes us by. Maybe SA will become like Brazil, not Zimbabwe though.
i lived in cape town for 27 years ...the best by far to live in.people over exajurate the crime. i never got robbed in cape town in my life. like come on the whole world is not safe so come on
The guest states what a smart person, though I would have thought just common sense would make it obvious, like most places it depends on what part of the metro area you are in makes more difference as to whether you will experience crime. Even then other factors do apply.
Yeah I get tired of the SA is the next Zimbabwe. You stated would should be obvious, if that were the road SA is going down it is taking its sweet time. Perhaps the wildly successful 2010 World Cup it hosted delayed it or the success of the tourism industry. No... could it be the world class university system? The excellent housing stock? The free and fair treatment of the press? I know it’s the world leaders like former U.S. president Batak Obama or his wife (who’s been there twice). I got it, it was my attorney who is an Ivy League graduate who couldn’t stop praising the University of Cape Town.
BTW I believe SA doesn't even appear in the top-twenty most visited countries. Despite being arguably, one of the best, and most beautiful destinations... I wonder why?
Simply because pounds to rands is the best exchange rate in the world.
A currency move. That's it? Oh.
And the USD to rand has been pretty good too
Imagine hearing south african accents all day omg ears bleeding

Cape Town is ranked in the top 10 most beautiful cities in the world.
Its Africa stereotyped, and it's far from most places around the globe and therefore expensive.
Because Cape Town is British and Dutch. As dimple as that.
