Seems like the major bosses are going to be based on the 5 stages of grief and I'm very interested in seeing what they come up with. I'm not familiar with the game enough yet to talk about game balance, but I'd really like it if relationship actouts weren't so common on both ends. They're neat but incredibly annoying.
Yeah, you're not the only one who pointed that out as well... The affliction system in DD1 is more convenient and straightforward, here, they'll stop, pop out and show a mini cutscene about it for a few seconds. Its much more frustrating when ALL of your heroes are not getting along.

I like the theme of this fight, you destroy the negative shackles that represent the things that bar your party from carrying forth. Yes you seemingly wake up an evil in the process, but your heroes can fight on to ensure that the flame continues to burn till the dawn shall eventually rise and only then shall the heroes finally rest
i think the shackle is more literal than that, cause the first one is abomination's lock, then crusader's lion, arbalest's bolts, and vestal's heresy book or somthing. they all a trinket for the heroes from the first game that are presumably dead or missing.

From what i've seen graphics and animations are amazing , far more than i've imagined , love that the amazing 2d style was even improved in 3d with no quality loss , that being said i think this game still has a lot of work , hopefully it gets better gameplay and mechanics wise. What are your biggest gripes with the game atm ?
I love the combat in this one way more than the first game. That being said, character moves being locked behind flashbacks is the thing I have most problems with because some characters have amazing moves, but their starting kits are so atrocious. Other than that the relationship system snowballs very easily and affinities build up so fast that most of characters like each other by the end of the first or second quest instead of it being a gradual development. Other than that it's more minor things like the inventory, the wagon being hard to steer, ghoul existing, getting stunned not giving you a stun res bonus, the character all deciding to retreat from a battle when the quest is "complete 3 fights" and some balancing issues. I do enjoy the game and see it as having a very strong foundation.
I played Darkest Dungeon 1 in early access and it was fucking rough compared to the final product. I have faith that the developers will make the game much better before release.

i saw someone fighting an enemy antiquarian, and Wayne had special dialogue for the encounter, so they're probably there, it's just that they're not here with you; don't know if they're rare encounter's or a common enemy tough
I think crusader and vestal probably sacrificed themselves to kill the heart, and I'm pretty sure the antiquarian would never do such a thing as most of her abilities are about self-preservation and cowardice (still love the antiquarian xD)

Doubt it, at least two characters had to bite it against the Heart of Darkness. If they're going by the Diablo route, some of the adventurers may very well have turned into enemies themselves(looking at you Antiquarian). So while I expect quite a few of the old roster to return and the debut of new heroes. I wouldn't be surprised if some characters don't make the cut. That said, I do find it odd that the explicitly divine powered characters have all disappeared. I know that the Crusader is probably dead, but the Flagellant and Vestal aren't here either. Though given what's happened to the city and how rampant the cults have spread. I think the pious may very well find themselves overwhelmed in the rampant chaos.
I absolutely love the way the Hellion looks in the new art style; she really gets emphasis on her muscle definition and...war face, I guess you'd call it.
This was really nice gameplay and I think Darkest Dungeon 2, did something that some sequels can’t, it got all good things from the first game and doubled them. Can’t wait to see it on my screen !
I kinda wished that the Brain of Darkness was a little more than just a literal brain. Like add some tentacles underneath or some shit, brain in chains is a little.. Plain.

The relationship system bring out tons of buff and advantage for those able to keep spirit high, but in turn, 1 miss step and it will become backfire with all the debuff and stress cause by your own ally. This make player have to keep an eye on how they can maintain the friendship and avoid make hateful ally. It does sound right but with how often it occur, I dont really like it. By the way there is a bug at 10:13 , Hellion should have say a heroic quote while take stress damage for army men but she say the command code: "bark_act_out_stress_dmg_to_self_partner_is_hit" and army men have that too while fighting boss. These two sure born for each other! :)
all you have to do is maintain stress and your relationships will be perfect, coming from my 6 runs negative stuff only really occurs when stress is above 4

If I would point out something about the game and I hope red hook would understand is that... The road encounters in the game are too repetitive and I hope that there's more than that in the final release. I remember a critique about the game regarding its player's decision making and how it tackles morality in a sense. Sure you could argue that its not what red hook is aiming for but given with the DD2's new direction, they somehow miss an opportunity to apply it here in this game. The system that they replace with is just as similar with how DD1 tackles with and that is, making certain decisions based on statistics or computational with an expected outcome or results. They have an opportunity to make certain events or encounters much difficult or make it even more risky by giving a random reward that may or may not benefit them in the game. Like making deals with the pillagers, or get ambushed by a disguised hitch hiker or refugees. In short, they could have make the events/encounters more engaging by making them untrustworthy or deceiving from first glance with a slight guarantee of success or consequences in return. _(My ideas would be, but its up to them if they'll take it...)_ - If you fail to help these individuals out or fail to give their demands then the party will get curse - Have a place in ruins that has a chance of being an ambush or a huge reward. - Avoid certain fights but in return, it will remove certain encounters or scenarios in the maps like removing hospitals in the map. - And finally, make certain individuals have a chance of being hostile or give you something useful in your journey like scouting, stress healing, trinkets and more...
got to the boss on my first run, and my graverobber survived through 56ish rounds and countless deathblows and won. karma for the game killing my man-at-arms in the first area i chose or it's just a bug
Relationships are a thing now The positivity you see with each teammate is because they grew to like each other during the journey to the mountain, to the point they basically got virtues The opposite happens if you make them stressed, they start hating on each other and sabotage* their actions
And btw stress no longer causes virtues or afflictions, instead it makes it more likely that they will respond badly to others, reducing their relationship. Full stress now causes a meltdown, aka a heartattack but doesn't necessarily take you to death's door, that also greatly reduces their reputation with the rest of the team.
In my opinion, for now this game looks kinda empty. Where are other classes? Where are other biomes to travel? I hope we will get more content when it comes from alpha. And final boss looks kinda easy.

There's 5 chapters so it only seems reasonable that they'll all be based on the stages of grief.

got to the boss on my first run, and my graverobber survived through 56ish rounds and countless deathblows and won. karma for the game killing my man-at-arms in the first area i chose or it's just a bug
Is it me or does this look a lot easier than the first game? Whats with all this positivity and good vibes? Where's the betrayal lol?

Also, character relationships are a thing. these guys are on good terms.

The positivity you see with each teammate is because they grew to like each other during the journey to the mountain, to the point they basically got virtues
The opposite happens if you make them stressed, they start hating on each other and sabotage* their actions
And btw stress no longer causes virtues or afflictions, instead it makes it more likely that they will respond badly to others, reducing their relationship.
Full stress now causes a meltdown, aka a heartattack but doesn't necessarily take you to death's door, that also greatly reduces their reputation with the rest of the team.

In my opinion, for now this game looks kinda empty. Where are other classes? Where are other biomes to travel? I hope we will get more content when it comes from alpha. And final boss looks kinda easy.
this is just a fifth of the game, after all. This guy ain't even the final boss, he's just one of 5.

How would that even work with a turn based rpg. Doesnt make much sense
