super good point about velocity drop off during rep sets. during sets of 5 on sumo i definitely notice the first few reps being springy then it gets slow

That velocity drop off and taking speed in the first rep into consideration on rep prs is where RPE comes into consideration huge no? If you hit a let’s say 500 for 4 when previous best was 485 for 3 but that 485 was Rpe 8 and the 500 was Rpe 7 you know for sure that the strength is there and you didn’t just grind harder this time around. Can’t wait to see what you put down at nationals!

Does the velocity dropoff point you made just boil down to whether you're someone who's better at heavy singles than rep work (or vice versa)? I might be misunderstanding but are you saying that your rep-to-rep velocity dropoffs when reps and RPE are equated can significantly change over time?
I feel like unless your training or technique changes drastically over time, the rep-to-rep velocity dropoff for, say, a 4 reps @ RPE 9 would be pretty much the same. If you're a Dan Green type, I can't imagine you'll have a 4 @ 9 that looks like 4 @ 6 or vice versa. Or maybe I'm just wrong or haven't seen enough lifters do rep work which is entirely possible!
Or maybe the dropoff changes as you get stronger and more skilled over time? Or just other short term factors like recovery, mental stuff, and nutrition, fatigue, and all that jazz?

The way you explained how working sets where your velocity is consistently low from the start, are bad predicators of 1rm strength is very fascinating. I never thought of it that way before but thinking about it, it makes perfect sense. You would think the lower your rep scheme the better predicator of your 1 rm is, but that is not necessarily the case if your speed is consistently low from rep 1.

Sean I really want you to go all the way but I am getting previous nationals vibes here, your squat seems to cause injury after you cut and then makes your total fall to pieces. I will be watching and hoping because if I see you squat 305 then you've won
