I am 72 years old and live alone. I have two wonderful friend who also live alone. Early in the pandemic, we decided that we needed to stay in contact (we live in different cities), so we started a weekly Zoom meeting. Over four years later, we still Zoom weekly. We encourage each other, gripe, gossip, share good news, talk about our kids. It's important for our mental health.
Love the family meeting idea. As a single person I'm going to have a meeting with myself about needs and wants for the upcoming week and get them done! Brilliant!
Love how both of yall keep gushing over the other's ideas & letting them know, "I will be stealing that!" Lol people genuinely supporting eachother is the best, yall had such a great vibe
I'm ADD, the 3 things organizers all over the world have in common is at 20:27 time stamp: 1. Monitoring volume that came into house 2. Setting up simple systems 3. Implementing habits I'm trying to get unstuck. I think the 15 minutes of doing SOMETHING can break the overwhelm paralysis.
Cas, I love your podcasts. They make such a difference. I would LOVE another episode about self-care and learning how it's OK not to work or have goals all the time 😅
Cass! Try Anylist for your grocery store category list. I love it, less clutter and also categorized by grocery store sections and I never forget my phone like I do paper. Shira was a delight, thanks for this podcast
Brilliant! This is one of my favourite pods/UA-cam I have ever seen/ listen too! I have two pages with new or forgotten tips that I want to do!! 🥰 Thank You Cass for this!
Cas, what an amazing video with your wonderful guest,Shira. I got just as excited as you. I love your reactions. I immediately booked our family meetings (we were doing them once a month, just highs and lows) now they’ll become weekly and I’ll add ‘what you need this upcoming week’ to it. Love it!!🤗 And I was just like you with ‘I don’t need to schedule special time with my hubby’ but after 15 years together with three beautiful daughters and a dog, we really do. So while you scheduled in, I scheduled every Sunday evening with him in our shared calendar. Thank you and Shira for being so inspiring! I also ordere Shira’s three books👌🏻
Brilliant ideas, thank you! 🤩 I have a list on my fridge of things we're NOT out of, called "We're Good!" We bring that to the grocery store to avoid ending up with five ketchup bottles in the pantry 😝 Now I know to call this my system for controlling the volume!
Use a reminder list on your phone for grocery list and share with family. They can add to it at anytime and it’s with you anytime you are out and in a grocery store. It’s has saved me so many times. And husband adds to it. When I am cooking it’s open and ready to type what I ran out of. No memory game.
For android, my husband oldest son and I use AnyList (it's an app). All 3 of us share the grocery list that auto-categorizes items (and can customize ones too). Any of us can add items, and all 3 of us can see the changes. AND we each have our own personal lists w/in the app as well for all kinds of topics that are not shared.
I also like the Alexa app where anybody in your family tells Alexa to add something to the grocery list and it’s in your phone when you go to the store 😅
This was an amazing interview!!! I had to write down the “needs & wants” meeting date as well….my 82yr old dad lives with us, & among all the scripts & doctor visits, this will help him feel heard.
Hm, I'm just asking myself if it would make sense if I scheduled a weekly date for myself to go over the next week... Interesting idea! Loved this podcast! Oh, I have two girl friends who live very far away now, and when we actually managed to talk, like once a year, we always said, "Oh, we must do that more often, this was fun!" (Er, we are German. When we say that, we mean it 100%.) But then life happened again and we managed to only do it the next year. Now, before we end our call, we schedule the next telephone date in like 5-6 weeks. It works great. Even if we sometimes have to reschedule. 😄
Here’s one I found out the hard way. Nowadays, if you don’t go on your online bank account every 90 days, you’ll be automatically locked out! I had an account that I rarely checked, didn’t worry about but I still needed. Imagine my surprise when I was locked out when I checked it on a Sunday night. So I went through my calendar and wrote -visit bank account every 60 days.
Loved listening to this podcast, I live alone with my cat! But every Sunday I have an hour where I look thru fridge and freezers, meal plan, and I also do my weekly planner too...this way I know what clients I'm going to, and meals done so if longer cleans I put slow cooker on!
I love to declutter now as it gives me such a calm feeling. I noticed that I only use 3 to4 cleaning products under the kitchen sink , so I got rid of like over 6 items. Looks neat and now j7st a sec to grab cleaner.
This was good. Thanks Cas. It's funny because I misheard one part where Shira said about electronic recycling I thought she said digital recycling so I took that to mean delete crap off your phone and emails so I was like yes great idea to do this once a month but then re listened and was like ok I heard that wrong but the Get It Done Day can include delete rubbish off phone and emails. Perhaps things like having photos which are very similar and that sort of thing :)
I love your scheduled errand day. For a variety of reasons that wouldn’t work for us. But we keep a master calendar in the kitchen and schedule errands on the days we have to go into “the city” anyway. By lumping errands, shopping, appointments, etc on the same day it frees up so much of our time and by planning the errands in a loop we save gas and time. There are very few things that can’t be adjusted to have a full day. So while not auto pilot, it is pretty easy to make work. We end errand day by going out to dinner (date).
I have a vase on my kitchen counter that I put different flowers in daily but don't have live flowers. Anyway it's nice to see flowers cheers me up each morning.
I need a visual for the closet donation bag. This is genius. I don't want to keep a huge box on the floor at all times. I imagine it like a laundry bag hanging off one of the hangers
I live alone. Best tip low inventory! Store like with like. (Minimal Mom) I only keep things that I actually use or make my Heart smile like my plants. 💜
❤❤loved this podcast ❤❤. Spoke to my hesty❤😊. I struggle with balance, get rid of keep, beautiful home minimalist?? Especially with holidays approaching!! Wish book was available now!! Order the other 2 books and signed up for newsletter can’t want to dive in with both feet 😂 TFS Cas!!
Yes to the calendar! I will forget... Even if my partner says remind me to tell you ... I put it on my calendar. I set it all on reoccurring reminders. Cancel subscription by... Order by... Renew by... All of it.
I set reminders to cancel things as a long term recurring appointment with no end date and as an all day event. It makes it easier to see it every day so that I don’t forget about it when I had it as a single time event. ADHD tax aversion techniques.
Cass, where did u purchase the white boxes behind u? Do the boxes fit a standard sheet of paper? My paper-game is a nightmare as I have no room for a desk or filing cabinet but I do have a cube-organizer that I could use!! Thank u for all u do!!!! 🙏🏼❤️
I believe in a UA-cam video a long time ago, she said they were called bigso boxes from the container store. They are available to order online if there isn't a container store near you.
I'm not sure what to do! The hardcover looks so lovely, but I really need the audiobook. Which should I get first? Should I get both? So many questions! Help!
I tried to order Shira's book on Amazon and it is preorder for Dec. 3rd but the arrival date is Jan 3rd. I was hoping to have for Christmas. Does anyone have faster shipping?
What about us preppers? Those of us who believe in the zombie apocalypse? Most of us don’t collect brick a brack, but necessary items to live in multiples such as food, water, blankets, and such.
Since this is important to you then you have to declutter to create the space for it and be very intentional about it. Might mean you have much less time, money, space and energy for other activities.
I’d rather have a sensible prep than trendy clothes, expensive coffees or crap from the “dollar spot”. It IS about priorities. I don’t prep for a zombie apocalypse, no living for years off my preps, but the most likely natural disasters and most losses of infrastructure due to them are covered. More important than “stuff” are knowledge, skills and common sense and those don’t take up space or in most cases money. I’m near the Canadian border, for example if a blizzard/ice storm knock out our power, we won’t starve or freeze to death. Preps can be clutter or they can be a relatively simple part of your life.
😂 definitely "landing zone", landing strip (it's also called the French bikini wax) removes hair from around the front and sides, essentially leaving a rectangular patch of hair in the middle
My son in school, I set his annual check up right before school starts. The rest of us, son out of school, gets annual check ups around our birthdays. I never forget
It's rude to interrupt a person constantly with your needs and demands. I love the meeting idea so us moms don't have random things thrown at us multiple times a day.

Xxxxx ❤❤❤
I love this!!!
"Owning less is easier than organizing more." Brilliant, love it!
Love the family meeting idea. As a single person I'm going to have a meeting with myself about needs and wants for the upcoming week and get them done! Brilliant!
Great idea.
In my church we call it family council.
Yes I do all my errands on Tuesdays 🙌🏼. I’m retired so I meal plan Monday then groceries and other items the next day. Great video. Thanks 🥰
Just gave my kitchen cabinets a mini makeover while listening for ten minutes. Thank you both ❤
Ahhhh this was a fun one. Waking up to coffee and your video = perfection.
Love how both of yall keep gushing over the other's ideas & letting them know, "I will be stealing that!" Lol people genuinely supporting eachother is the best, yall had such a great vibe

Very motivating video!! Hope you colab together again in the future. Fun and encouraging. ❤ love it.
Loved this. I wish it had been longer❤. I'll be listening to this again.

My favorite guest / amazing
Cas absolutely loved this podcast. I live alone but I'm still going to book myself in for a meeting once a week xx

When I see things on my phone screen that I don't want to forget, I'll snapshot it.. this is definitely one of those things 💯 ♡♡

😯 the family meeting would have been life changing when we had kids at home!!!! I love this idea so much! Thank you!
I try with the cats but they’re not interested 🤣
I have a vase on my kitchen counter that I put different flowers in daily but don't have live flowers. Anyway it's nice to see flowers cheers me up each morning.
Asking for this book for Christmas ❤❤❤
This is a great podcast! You both are so inspiring! Thanks for all the great tips!
Great tips!
I need a visual for the closet donation bag. This is genius. I don't want to keep a huge box on the floor at all times. I imagine it like a laundry bag hanging off one of the hangers
I really want to know where she bought that white top! So cute!
Ty for awesome video
I was driving while listening and I really like some of these great ideas!!!
Loved the podcast ❤
Any tips for those who lives alone? Loved the podcast!
This was going to be my question, too.
I live alone. Best tip low inventory! Store like with like. (Minimal Mom) I only keep things that I actually use or make my Heart smile like my plants. 💜
Shira’s micro managed times are like your 30 day 5 minute challenges Cas
Love the family ideas

Honest question... what is "hesty"?
This was a great one. Thanks

Great stuff here!!! I can't function without my All Out Of pad!!!

My fridge would probably give you both heart attacks, but my house is organised and easy to clean (thanks to your videos Cass). I just like stickers 💖

Hi Cass, what’s the difference in the new book n Minimalista?
I'm not sure what to do! The hardcover looks so lovely, but I really need the audiobook. Which should I get first? Should I get both? So many questions! Help!
Audio book via your library to try it?
@@jwuertz7101 Yes, that's probably what I'll do. Thanks!
I tried to order Shira's book on Amazon and it is preorder for Dec. 3rd but the arrival date is Jan 3rd. I was hoping to have for Christmas. Does anyone have faster shipping?
Pre-ordered Shira's book, but then...also ordered 4 other books that I'd been wanting. 🙀😹
Cas, where did you get the boxes that are on the shelves behind you?
Love ❤it
I cannot even believe the number of commercials interrupting all my favorite UA-cam channels now. So disruptive!
Just subscribe to UA-cam. It’s worth every penny. Zero ads.
One thing I do is not to schedule things on Mondays if possible that way I'm free to handle what pops up.

How to fix a medicine cabinet to where the bottles don't fall out of the shelves?
My fridge & freezer is hidden in a coupboard! Love to not have to see the fridge at all! 👌

OMG, Everytime I try to clear the fridge my entire family complains. I think in some way its comforting for them that it stays the same
Hi! ❤❤❤
