@@RyanSmith-xh2ft When they cut mine off I was told that it was because back in the day when instructors were in the back seat rather than side to side with no or limited avionics, they would tug the back of their students shirt to tell them something, but after the solo they cut it off because they don't need to tug the back of the shirt anymore. Not entirely sure if it is true, just what I have been told.

I'm 19 and always dreamed of doing this too but the costs and the fact my parents hate airplanes don't really help me. I got other things to be proud of but you are a badass kid.
I did my first solo when I was almost 16 in a c172n, I was pretty scared, my landing won’t perfect back then and I was not confident talking to my class e airspace radio controller, but I lived through it, even though I ballooned the landing it was still one of the most memorable days of my life after so many years, the water on my head felt great after couple gallons of sweat haha. There is something amazing about watching young people excel, and particularly at tasks we ourselves are not capable of. I think it has something to do with a vicarious celebration of the Human spirit through those who are just entering the race. A very professional and mature showing Jack.
Also if you join the military especially the air force they give you grants to do activity they deem productive and help the Air Force/military. Most people get grants to pay college tuition but I know people who haves used it to get there private pilots License. Talk to a air force recruiter.

If you don’t die, there is still a significant risk of getting ptsd. I personally know and have spoken to people in the army, including a brigadier general, who said that he saw many friends get killed in combat, which would certainly traumatize most people I would think. Also, would you really want to give up such a significant time in your life? Suppose you join the military after high school. You enlist at 18, and your contract expires when you are 26. Now, you still have no education. Suppose you want a college education. I know the military will pay it, but after getting a 4 year degree let’s say at an aviation university, you will be 30, and ready to start the workforce. By then, most of your friends will have already established themselves financially, and you will just be starting out. Of course, you could just do a 2 year accelerated ATPL program without a degree, but that also means, that if for whatever reason you don’t pass class 1 medical certificate, let’s say your vision drops below 20/20. Now, you can’t be a pilot anymore, and you have to get another job, but you don’t have a degree, and your options are quite limited. Overall, the military is not worth it. If you want to be a pilot, your best option is going to an aviation university if you can afford it. Many of them are relatively expensive, however, they give you a 4 year degree, and the required certifications to become an airline pilot. Another great option if you can’t afford aviation university, is to get a regular degree, and work for several years to save up money. Then, you could go to an accelerated flight program like ATP flights such, which costs around 80k, and gives you an ATPL license.
