    06:32 you know people don't want to pay small change for an o ring so just steal it from the store. We get the same with multi packs of washers, bolts etc. Pack of 10, corner of bag torn open with 2 washers missing. Really annoying when you're in a rush and haven't noticed until you get home.

    Hi Spiderobert - I got the tanks from my favorite shopping store - Craig's List :) I have seen them anywhere from $250 to $600 on Craig's list, but you have to watch for them as they aren't on there all the time. Tractor Supply sells them new for around $900.

    Use sand for your bed under your tanks. In Australia we use CCA logs to stop it from washing away by making a frame around the tank. With the water diverter, use a valve at the base and just crack it open slightly. Makes cleaning easy.

      Thanks for the suggestions Peter. I used the wood chips as a no cost option because I had them already. Next year once things settle, I may try sand.

    the tape is called teflon type.
    THE EQUATION FOR RAINWATER HARVESTING IS: length of roof in feet x width of roof in feet X inches of rain X 0.68 for the first flush systems= amount of rain harvested in gallons.
    So 20 X 40 ft roof X 1 inch of rain X 0.68 = 544 gallons

    Another name for "quick disconnects" are called Unions....very useful fittings for pvc pipe.

  • @timkirkpatrick9155
    @timkirkpatrick9155 7 років тому +2

    Not a quick disconnect, it is a union. QDs are like air compressor and hydraulic fittings.

    I do think they are called unions my man not quick disconnects. But you have one nice set up. Just trying to point those who don't know into the correct direction.

    use the totes as an overflow for the bigger tanks

    • @greatescapefarms
      @greatescapefarms  7 років тому

      I may end up doing that. Although I do have some other areas in the yard I could use them. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Plasti dip would work well to block sunlight and protect your tanks. It's a aerosol plastic spray. Easy to use like a rattle can

    • @greatescapefarms
      @greatescapefarms  7 років тому

      Ah, that would work - and it's even on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Performix-11203-Multi-Purpose-Coating-Aerosol/dp/B0006SU3QW/ref=as_sl_pc_qf_sp_asin_til?tag=greescfar-20&linkCode=w00&linkId=5c327998f1a08c580e8c2fa9b63abec1&creativeASIN=B0006SU3QW

    I think the shut off valve should be closest to the tank then and the union ie quick connect

    • @greatescapefarms
      @greatescapefarms  7 років тому +1

      Yea, it could actually go either way. Actually, if I had the funds, it could use a cutoff on both sides of the quick connect, so I can isolate the tank and the system, depending on what I'm doing, without having to drain one section or the other. Thanks!

    hey looking good Tod, cant never have enough storage capacity! have you tried a heat gun and adding air pressure to the tanks to pop the dents??

    • @greatescapefarms
      @greatescapefarms  7 років тому +1

      I have not tried a heat gun. I may give that a try. I did pop the dent out on one of them and then it went right back in, so it is a little stubborn. The tanks are full now, but I have not been out to the farm to see if the weight popped the dents out and I keep forgetting to ask the folks out there to look for me. I'll try the heat gun on the second tank if water pressure doesn't work though. Thanks!

    • @JM-yx1lm
      @JM-yx1lm 7 років тому

      Great Escape Farms ya the heat gun and air pressure would reset the dent to its original spot and once it cools will have strength to stay the rather than pop back into the dent..

      So far the algae hasn't been bad. The clear/white tank is in a mostly shaded area.

    How much are those 1500 gallon tanks that you are using ?

    • @greatescapefarms
      @greatescapefarms  7 років тому +1

      They are about $900 new at Tractor Supply. But I'm a Craig's list junkie and picked the green one up for $400 and I picked both white ones up for $450, but they both needed some repairs.

  • @spiderobert
    @spiderobert 7 років тому

    nice video. Where did you get these tanks?

    • @greatescapefarms
      @greatescapefarms  3 роки тому

      I found the tanks on craigs list. I was looking for close to 6 months before I found the first one. They do sell them new at tractor suppy and other stores like that.

      I agree, but it was free and immediately available for this season. I'll deal with a firmer footing next year when I have more time (I hope).
