My theory is that streaming services are killing tv. There is so much to watch and no anticipation for anything. You watch an entire season of a show in a day and then wait 2 years for another season to come out. Hollywood is probably making more money from people rewatching old shows at this point than they are from taking any risk on new projects. It’s really a creativity drought we are in currently and it’s depressing as hell.

I would like to add that seasons keep getting shorter. I'm rewatching House and it has 20+ chapters per season from season 1. No 10 chapters. 20+.
There aren't many episodic shows anymore. They ask for a compromise from you.

The format of TV shows is incompatible with streaming. You really need an outstanding work, or a strong IP, to be somewhat competitive in the ocean of content. Nickelodeon and Disney channel 2000's live actions can't compete.

A million percent I’ve always thought this. If people don’t even have the patience to have a series released over 2-3 months, or god forbid 12+ episodes, we’re really setting ourselves up to be ran through by lesser quality shows or just getting rid of good shows that don’t give good numbers.

I remember being so excited for the idea of the Ned's Declassified reboot...then listening to the podcast and thinking how much I would rather not have that group back. Actively boasting about the things you were doing while most people saw you as a child in that role, even though by now we're around the same age.
It just comes off as that energy of going to a class reunion and seeing one of your old classmates bragging about getting some action in the janitors closet. I remember the Ned’s Declassified podcast being my last straw for revivals because of exactly that - the show is now associated with “the cast got freaky on set” and not “the show is fun, people enjoyed it, the cast did too.” along with the cast peaking on that show and uncomfortably begging for a revival.
It’s in the same vein as what people are starting to feel about Toy Story because they’re pumping out another movie. It’s not associated with whatever original feeling was there, now it’s “the franchise that’ll keep ending and coming back over and over.” because the people who don’t care that art exists for enjoyment/creativity just see everything without curse words thrown constantly as kiddy fodder and the people who are unnaturally obsessed with it don’t care about the fact that it was created with a vision in mind or how storytelling works.

I mean she and Devon have both certainly had their share of cringe moments on the podcast, but I actually kind of feel bad for Daniel since, as far as I’m aware, he’s been the least controversial of the three and often seems to get dragged into the other two’s mess simply because he’s guilty by association.

Devon also worked with Josh's tv dad Johnathon Goldstein several times I think (if Drake hadn't even told his mom about Brian Peck committing you know what to him, so they could set up an arrest trap for Brian, he would have played Walter Nichols on Drake and Josh).

I was absolutely ECSTATIC about the podcast and super hyped when it was announced the main trio would be hosting. I HAD to stop listening. It wasn’t JUST that they started talking about uncomfortable situations. They were awkward teenagers growing up on camera. Sure, talk about it. What pissed me off was they essentially STOPPED “recapping” the show and just started talking about marginally tangential things BARELY related to anything.
They openly admitted that’s what the podcast warped into and at that point I had to give up.
Bringing in guests who didn’t even APPEAR on the show, Lindsay Shaw trauma dumping, Devon clearly pissed he can’t get work, Daniel giving… nothing. For such a professional looking and produced show, it’s a dumpster fire of content.

Very true. Disney, Nickelodeon, etc. are forgetting their target audience, because they're so busy trying to keep their former gen z audience, when most of us are adults now.
Making these revivals MANY years later makes no sense, because kids now are going to be confused and disinterested, because the show is just a revival of an old one instead of it being an original show made for THEM, and the older audience that the show is actually trying to cater to will either forget it exists after watching one episode out of curiosity, or they'll hate it for being a cash grab or for "ruining their childhood", or they'll just be uninterested because of the corny and childish plotlines and characters that really appeal to kids more than adults. I liked Wizards of Waverly Place, but I'm completely uninterested in the revival, and while I know this isn't the case of all of the gen zers who were fans of the show as kids, I feel like most people who ARE interested in the revival might only watch the first two episodes and then move on.
It just feels like they're isolating their gen alpha audience who have the potential to love Disney Channel the same way millennials and gen z did as kids, which is going to backfire on their company BADLY in the future.

It is a bit weird, but from a brief Google I did, it does seem like Catholics are able to make a distinction between enjoying magic in fictional media and practicing it in reality (or the perception of doing so). It’s more the Protestant fundamentalists who demonized Harry Potter and the like…Katy Perry, for example, was a product of this in the pre-HP era, with her parents being against even things like “Lucky Charms,” because it promoted the idea of luck. And then we have the Duggars, who eschew the majority of mainstream media. It seems to vary based on denomination and sect. I mean, you have devout Mormon authors who are technically Christian, and this sect has multiple popular fantasy authors among its members like Card, Sanderson, and more, yet the Church is also notoriously anti-LGBTQ.

I'm catholic myself, and I can openly say it's just pure and simple hypocrisy. This branch of christianism is more "flexible" lately, since there are so many interpretations, and direct social coercion is non existent in modern communities, so people can be picky and choose where they "draw the line" (not like church encourages it, but they can't stop it and that's great). This often conduces to a very hypocritical mindset if you try to apply your own biased criteria outside. The solution: stop using god or religion, which are introspective and personal, as weapons or arguments against others.

I’m a Doctor Who fan. In 2023 the show celebrated 60 years on TV with David Tennant and Catherine Tate returning to the roles of characters they played in 2008.
There was rumours that the main big bad The Toymaker deliberately brought two fan favourite characters back because it was going to be a comment on toxic nostalgia and now people don’t really *want* what they say they what want.
The toxic nostalgia plot line didn’t end up happening and it’s so “odd to me” because fans got SO annoyed that “they cashed in on fan favourite characters just to win back fans” when I feel that most people don’t care anymore because it’s been like 15 years ago.
People might say they would watch it but they won’t.
They never will, people don’t and can’t out their money where their mouth is.

I thought "making it a bigger deal than it needed to be" was pretty on brand for very religious people. A lot of religious people think that "pointing out the wrong" is part of dedicating yourself to your religion. Judging other people comes with the territory, and specially making a show of it so the people witnessing it KNOW there is a "conflict between right and wrong" and hopefully understand that the people MAKING the scene are in fact in the right. If he had a little bit more charisma, he could have said "Nah, I can't believe you put Bridget Mendler here! She has a doctorate now, she's too busy researching to come back to the show!" and saved face, but he really wants everyone to know that he's talking about A CERTAIN SOMEONE and that HE'S A DEVIANT and how much HE DISAPPROVES of that behavior. It's all on brand. People should be discussing other things, like how there were several ways he could have handled that better, including asking for a pause to inform the producers in private without overexposing the issue to the young cast and yet he decided to keep going, generating all of this drama.

Disney has ran through most of their nostalgia too (aside from Phineas and Ferb) before you know if they’ll be trying to bring back shows that came out during the pandemic because realistically the nostalgia train has run its course. To be fair, popularity and cast's behavior aside, Ned's Declassified is kinda like Good Luck Charlie for example, in that the CONCEPT of the show warrants a reboot or sequel (College Survival Guide, Adulthood Survival Guide, Parenthood Survival Guide) more so than iCarly or Zoey 101 to be honest.

I actually really liked the iCarly reboot. Still mad they never gave us a season finale btw. It felt fresh while still maintaining several of the elements that made you like it originally. And unlike Raven’s Home where it aimed its show towards younger views, iCarly aged the characters up and put them in adult situations because the viewers were also adults. But it didn’t get to the point where it was as vulgar as the Ned’s Declassified cast on the podcast. From what we know about the first episode, I think the cancelled Lizzie McGuire reboot would have gone a similar direction to that of iCarly had Hillary Duff gotten her way with it.

I liked the Icarly reboot too! i do wish it was aimed more towards adults, Even though they has more adult situations, it was still in a safe family lense at the same time but it was still good. I dont think any other Reboots of these shows are good though lol

the iCarly reboot is honestly one of the grossest ones especially after jennette mccurdy’s book and the revelations there. imagine being on a healing path and now there’s a reboot to remind you of the horrors you went through.
i’m glad she didn’t do the show again, but the fact that she’s gone is such a huge obvious red flag

And it ended exactly when it needed to, it didn't drag on. I hope more people watch that show, the writing is fantastic and the casting and acting are absolutely incredible!!

8:52 when you know they were 12-14 in this story it makes so much more uncomfortable and harder to hear. Which fans watching the show would know that makes this so much worse and really soured me to a reboot or even watching the podcast. They should have cut it out of it even if she sad it.

I'm honestly sick to death of how many "new" things coming out are just revivals/reboots of older media. Then new releases that actually ARE new have no budget or hype behind them. Studios are no longer willing to put real effort towards fresh ideas and would rather run every existing IP into the ground. I always dreamed of working in the entertainment industry and it's honestly so sad to see.

Her economics are great much better then trumps but she's saying the quite bits of the Obama administration out loud. Like he deported a lot of people but he didn't advise it she's just saying to quite part out loud to get republican votes.

The only (yes, ONLY) revival to actually be good is Twin Peaks: The Return. The reason it works is because David Lynch and Mark Frost DID NOT CARE about the viewers' nostalgia for the show and DID NOT GIVE fanservice. It was a revisit worth taking and opening a whole new set of questions. Sure, it isn't gonna be for everyone, but it chose to be its own thing and thus it gains respect because of it.

    • @eatatjoes6751
      @eatatjoes6751 18 днів тому +2

The only other revival that worked is FOP: A New Wish, ironically because they didn’t try that hard to please old fans and the way they smoothly introduced old stuff works seamlessly.

  • @notlurking2128
    @notlurking2128 18 днів тому +3

I think this is mostly a quality issue. Like, people generally fucking love new takes on old media (spider-verse comes to mind, but also stuff like Star Trek TNG, the Clone Wars animated show are examples), but nostalgia alone WILL NOT be able to make a bad movie profitable. People who do not know anything about storytelling (CEOs) will see something like Spider-verse's success and think that the Spider-man IP is why it was successful. No dude, its because some people had a genuine creative vision and a new story to tell with old characters. You cannot substitute artists actually trying to tell a cohesive story with a popular IP.
Edited because I forgot that not everyone will know what TNG is lol.

They pretty much tarnished their brand. Lindsay talking about running through all the cast members on the set, making fun of Drake Bell, who was Sexually Abused by Acting Coach & getting Jealous because wizards of Waverly place was giving a reboot but not their show
Ned was not a top tier Nickelodeon program.
      Rugrats
      SpongeBob
      Avatar: The Last Airbender
      All That
      Kenan & Kel
      Hey Arnold!
      iCarly
      Zoey 101
      Drake & Josh
      The Fairly OddOarents
      Big Time Rush
      Jimmy Neutron
      The Amanda Show
Are You Afraid Of The Dark?
      Ren & Stimpy
      Invader Zim
      Danny Phantom
      Victorious
Those Shows were major Hits for Nickelodeon and Carries more to their name than what Ned Declassified had
It's never gonna happen. Move on and go audition for other gigs. Leave the show in the past.
